You read my palms and told me that you knew me
my heart beat a hazardous throb

until you grinned sunshowers.

It was then I remembered to stop doubting.
I know your lips spill rivers of truth,
the exact minute I was born,
these muscles do things I cannot name,
trees whisper
to swallows as they swoop freedom
at sunset

and I know your full stops are changing to question marks.
(I like forgetting that, in order to remember it again)

And I want to sing on the balcony
draping my legs over your knees warm inside a blanket
living each breath in a chatter of crowd
obsessively trying to say the unsayable
and failing beautifully
I would shine light on nothing
I’d take all you have and still want more.

sometimes I am caught between
wanting to write the best poetry I can,

and just,

being loved.
