Listen

I like to watch from the sidelines. To blend into the wall or the floor or the seat. I like to be silent, and observe what is going on around me. It's like watching a play, presented and known only to me. Only the people who know me notice me watching. I become quiet and hear the other voices all around me. While I am listening, at first I listen to all of the voices, in one big jumble of words, until something catches my interest. When I find that something, I will focus on that conversation. And then I just listen.
The thirst of curiosity is what keeps me listening. Curiosity for what? There is nothing specific, but if there had to be, I suppose it would be for nature, or for life in general, including the non-living things. Sometimes even when there are no people around, no voices, I still stop to observe. To listen to the sounds of the house, the whisper in the trees, the rustle of the grass, the patter of rain on the sidewalk, or the soft crunch of the snow as I walk though it.
I am always listening, to everything. And even though I may not hear it all, I aim to.
