• They all gathered at sunrise to prepare. The group stood close. Mid afternoon they were ready.
They could hear the rumbling all around them. The ground trembled below them as they split up. Left and right they fell, screams were heard over explosions filling the orange coloured sky. More and more of them fell, as night grew closer. This wasn’t getting anyone anywhere. The harder they fell the stronger the defence got. Only a few survived past the initial impact, they did what they could to carry on, nothing could break their morale. Running along the trenches they had carved they got to the grass. The grass lapped up the attention as they spilt over it. Nothing could break their stride as they carried on, running, leaving their imprint on the landscape as they went. They congregated in a large group, as all of a sudden they were broken apart, by the bright pink gumboots of two little girls walking home. The water splashed up at the girls’ faces, giggling and skipping home after school.
