Prologue~
It was a breezy early morning in the neighborhood ‘Sakura’ of Tokyo. The cherry blossom trees scattered their flower petals into the breeze. The sky was filled with small, puffy clouds. A doorbell rang in the residence of an Irish family.
Fourteen year old Keeva Regan and her mother Aoife Regan had moved from Ireland to Japan, to get away from sad memories and have a peaceful life in Tokyo. Keeva was a very timid and quiet girl who had a talent for drawing but wasnt very good with her studies. So, Aoife had hired a queer home tutor who had wanted a room and daily meals as payment. Aoife had agreed, she was desperate to have Keeva improved by the end of her middle school years. Aoife hurried downstairs to the front door and opened it.
“Good morning, miss..” a 19- year old boy with golden blonde hair greeted. Aoife looked surprised for a minute and then gave a warm smile. “ Oh my, I didnt think tht the tutor would be this young! ” she giggled. She invited him inside. “This might be a bit difficult for my little girl,” The boy looked surprised, Aoife looked up at the stairs.“Keeva’s very quiet and timid, you see…” The boy followed the woman’s gaze. A girl with short black hair and pale skin was peeking from behind the railings of the staircase. She quickly ran away when she saw that they were looking at her….
….Keeva ran quickly up to her room and shut the door. Her heart was thumping hard inside her chest she tried taking slow deep breaths. “What is Mama doing?!” she panicked.
Keeva sneaked downstairs, quietly. It was almost 8:25 and school started at 8:30. She had quickly taken a bath and gotten ready for school. Her stomach grumbled, loudly. She walked to the doorway of the kitchen and peeked inside. The tutor was sitting at the dining table with his back to her. He was answering every single question Aoife was shooting at him. “Do you like croquettes, Elias?”
[Croquettes is not a game, they are small fried cakes of tasty mixtures coated in egg and breadcrumbs] ‘Elias? Is he Irish?’ Keeva wondered. “Yes, it’s one of my favorites!” Elias replied, cheerfully.
“Mama…,” Keeva called. Aoife was near the stove, she turned around. “I’m going….to school...” Aoife smiled and said. “Of course, dear.” Then, Elias spoke handing a toast covered with jam to her. “Here, eat it on your way. You are hungry right? I think I heard your tummy growl...” Keeva took the toast with shaking fingers, her face pink. “Thank you...” she mumbled. “You better hurry or Lorcan will put you in detention again.” Aoife said in a singsong voice. At once, the slam of the front door shutting echoed through the house.
“Who’s Lorcan?” Elias asked, curiously. “The head of the Student Council, he focuses mostly on discipline….he checks everything; whether every student comes on time, no bullies or fights, he practically runs the school….he really respects it, no one knows why,” she turned the stove off and looked at him, “Every student respects him, even the teachers…and apparently he’s very good with a some weapon…” Aoife told him. “He’s that good, is he?” Elias murmured and his blue eyes twinkled. He looked at Aoife and was a bit surprised to see her scrutinizing him.
“You’re not any ordinary home tutor are you, Elias?” she said. “No, I’m afraid I’m not.” Elias replied with an amused smile. “Mafiosi are never afraid.” Aoife said. “That is just a word we use to cover our real identity, our ‘Mafia’ are different from you humans…” Elias said with a chuckle.
