• Chapter 1:
Hide and Seek and The Blood Spattered Blanket

Jessica was fourteen, or maybe a little older, and lived with her mother and younger sister, who was only five. Her sister was little Marie, a sickly child who walked around their large house with her baby blue blanket pulled over her head like a hood. "Marie," said Jessica kneeling down to Marie's height "Do you want to play a game?" Marie coughed and sniffed then said "Sure..." "Hide and seek!" said Jessica standing up. "I'll count to ten and you hide okay?" She told her sister. Jessica pressed her face against the wall and covered her eyes with her arms and began counting. Marie trotted down the hall with her bare feet slaping against the bamboo floor. She came down the stairs into the front room where two suits of armor with real battle axes stood on both sides of the room. Marie looked around the room for a hiding spot and stepped out into the middle of it. She backed up slowly until she bumped one of the suits of armor. She quickly turned around to see the suit simply looking foward, and it creaked a little. Marie backed away from it still looking up at the helm then stopped. The ax slowy was coming down. Marie just stared at it until the ax creaked down onto her head with a spatter of blood. "Ten!" shouted Jessica and took her face away from the wall. She came down the stairs into the front room then screamed in horror. Marie lie on the floor, her blue blanket stained red. "Marie!!" she sceamed and ran over to her sister's body. She shook Marie then turned her over, her hazel eyes still open and her face expressionless. "Oh, god, oh god." Jessica whimpered, her eyes welling up. She wrapped Marie in her blanket and ran up the stairs screaming "Mom!Mom!" "What is it?" asked Jessica's mother, sticking her head out from her study. "Marie, I think she's dead, the armor's ax came down on her head and she isn't breaththing..." said Jessica trying to catch her breath.
