• War changed when Humanity took its first colony in space. In the ruins we found on the planet Babylon revolutionized both space flight and modern weaponry. Now instead of taking hundreds or thousands of years to reach other systems it’d been reduced to two or three, at least for those inside the ship, and now instead of missiles, we used a form of hyper electrolyzed gel that sprayed the other ship and shut down its support systems as a defensive tactic; for offense we use a form of directionalized gravity that either tears the ship asunder or makes it implode. Though bullets were still the best way for dealing with people, gravity only works when in a vacuum, too close to a planet and it could have very severe consequences, we found that out on Mars, and lasers were impractical, We could use them to burn things but killing them with it could only be done by large, heavy lasers that needed a nuclear power plant to power it.
“Reidark!” A voice called and a man sitting by a window flinched as if wakened from a sleep like trance. “Woah, buddy. What’s going on? You’ve been staring into the nothingness for an hour now.” “An hour?” Reidark asked and “You lose track of time pretty easily in the void.” The other man said with a laugh. The void he said, It’s true, the nothingness that surrounded us was a white, Light that would be streaking from stars all across the universe just turned into a white that made sterile rooms look dirty, though how he knew time flew was another thing. This was all of our first journey, even Jeb’s, so his insight was astounding at this moment. “So, are finally close? Are we landing soon?” Reidark asked in a shaky voice. He was understandable nervous of the situation. Jeb smiled and nodded, so his insight was astounding at this moment. “So, are finally close? Are we landing soon?” Reidark asked in a shaky voice. As I said, war had changed. We no longer faced each other, instead the earth found a new enemy. One that stumbled upon our colony on Babylon and made horror flick monsters look tame. When they first invaded they began with powerful lasers from their ships to scorch the ground and destroy the inhabitants, then they landed. They were gray with skin that looked more like scales then anything and faces that seemed out of place with innocence. They fired ballistic weaponry and thus shared a common weakness. We tried to fight back but with the onslaught from above and on the ground the colony was lost to these…creatures. The ship that carried us was going to take the planet back weaponry and thus shared a common weakness. “Landing party to your posts.” The captain shouted over the PA and we all headed toward the landing pods. The ship was preparing to exit relative drive and begin orbit. There was a small jolt when the ship came toward normal travel speeds and then the power flickered. Lasers as I said, were impractical but when the enemy uses them to scorch the ground then so can we. The first volley fired, then launched the pods, and with a jerk my squad landed on the surface of Babylon. “Move!” Jeb shouted and we all took the nearest cover we could find. Our mission was simple, destroy anything that looked like an alien but nothing was around the landing site.
“Reidark, take point everyone follow close and move forward, stay close,” and he took point, I followed close behind. There was nothing around and we continued searching until they found us. “Take Cover” someone shouted and I dove behind a rock. Everyone found their own place and we began to fire back. Fighting for our lives, and for a rock that I knew nothing of. This place must have been at least 50 years done from the first attack, they must have forgotten we existed, and now we made this an inter-species conflict. “s**t!” I heard someone shout and I looked to my right. Jeb was shot in the leg, and with no medic I ran to his aide.

The battle was finished and I looked about the carnage. Three dead and one wounded, shot in the leg. “Josh came to help me, and The bastards shot him in the head!” I looked at him and closed his eyes. The pool of blood flowed freely from the gaping wounds left from the bullet as it passed through the sides of his skull. The thinker of our group was now lost, and that may be for the best. The poor sod wouldn’t have cut it as a military man. “Reidark!” Jeb said to me, the sneer on his face was clearly from hatred and not from the pain in his leg. “Let’s kill these ********.”
