The Rules that Meriko

In Character Rules:

• Please wash your hands at the sink by the door first.
  
• Please be quiet. Loud noises disturb the younger slimes.
  
• Please don't bother Meriko if she's busy working.

Out of Character Rules:

• No god-moding. Only Meri should RP Squishy and Serene.
  
• Meri is very busy OOC, so unless she's actively posting in the thread just pretend she's working IC and RP around her.
  
• No breaking things, stealing slimes, et cetera without prior approval from Meri (ask in white text or in Chatterbox thread).

Welcome to Meriko's corner of the lab.

During business hours, some of the laboratory's offices are open to the public so that people may look over adoptable slimes, learn more about the breeding program, and other such things. Slimes are welcome as well, providing they can arrange their own transportation to and from the lab. Meriko's workstation is located in one of the larger rooms and guests are welcome to visit so long as they wash their hands before touching anything.

The room is rectangular and spacious. All of the walls have counter-topped cabinets lined up along the floor. Three of the walls have shelves from countertop to ceiling, while the fourth is a large window looking out into the hallway. The shelves are packed tightly with various containers and habitats, the countertops are littered with various lab equipment, and there are Silky Slimes of various types everywhere.

In the middle of the room is a single long island. Notebooks dominate the counterspace here, and in the very middle are two habitats. Apparently these two slimes are something special. Let's meet them~  

[Meriko]

This is Squishy. He is the prototype, the progenitor, the First. All Silky Slimes know of him, for he has been in the Laboratory all his life, and all slimes start their existance there. He spends his days keeping Meriko company as she works, roaming the countertops and sometimes napping in her labcoat pocket. When Meriko is absent, Squishy likes to perch somewhere and gaze out at the lab and its various inhabitants. Who knows what dreams and wonders flit through this gooey little mind? No one. Squishy keeps his thoughts to himself.



This is Serene. Mysterious, ethereal, and totally full of herself. She is one of three identical triplets but believes herself to be the most beautiful of all slimes. Being adopted by a diety and having her habitat placed next to Squishy's at Meriko's workstation has puffed this vain slime up even more. She spends her days moving about the workstation in order to catch the best light with her body and despite her best efforts to live up to her name, radiates a great deal of Snooty rather than Serene.

Meriko hunkered over the island like a gargoyle from an ergonomicist's worst nightmare, scribbling away in a notebook and murmuring to herself about the relative acidities of peat moss gathered from various countries. Squishy sat on the corner of one page like a gelatinous paperweight, watching her write, while Serene bounced around the island, making little asides now and then about how nice it would be for a hole to be cut into the roof to let some natural light into the lab.

Meriko and Squishy ignored her.

Meriko looked up from her notebook, saw no one, then looked down toward the floor at the little chili-named slimes that had come speeding in and were now making their ablutions. She quirked one eye up at the fiesty one but then went back to her notes after a quick "Hello there." The green one seemed like it could keep tabs on its buddy.  

[Konami Shojou]

Konami hummed to herself as she turned down a hallway. On her shoulder sat a dull gray slime who scowled slightly. "She's not even gonna notice you're there," he said again to his creator, rolling his tiny eyes. Konami smiled -- she was used to Thanatos' cheerful disposition.

"It doesn't matter. I'm sure she'd appreciate even a tiny break once she does get away from her work for a moment," she replied, coming close to Meriko's door now. Konami often worried about her friend and boss, knowing her tendency to put a lot on her plate at once.

Thanatos snorted, but said nothing. He couldn't, as both he and Konami were suddenly distracted by the voices inside the lab. "What is going on in there...?" Konami asked softly, brow furrowed in concern. Thanatos shrugged, one eyebrow raised. Whatever it was, it sounded annoying.

Adjusting her glasses, Konami quickly washed her hands and entered the lab, looking around quizzically. "Meri...?"  

[Meriko]

She glanced up once more and then smiled. It was always pleasant to have Konami stop by, even if it was just for a quick "good morning" or lunch break alert.

"Hey there," she called out in the slightly supressed tone that was by now a habit. The old habit of yelping whenever she stubbed a toe or calling out loudly to someone passing by in the hall had been crushed quite firmly a few months ago when one batch of baby blues had turned out to be even more sensitive than usual to loud noises and unfortunately also prone to bursting into tears at the slightest upset.

Watching a batch of tiny slimes with their mouths open and emitting a muted chorus of "meeeeeeees" and "awaaaaaaaas" was probably the cutest thing in the world, but it was heartbreaking after twenty solid minutes of it.

"You're here late," she added. "Get caught up in an important project and forget to go home?" Pot, kettle. Kettle, pot.  

[Konami Shojou]

Konami chuckled sheepishly, fiddling with the hem of her labcoat sleeve. "Something like that," she said, blushing. On her shoulder, Thanatos glowered out the window momentarily before hopping off Konami's shoulder and on to one of the tables. He blanched slightly at the sight of one of the moon triplets and hastily hopped in the opposite direction.

Konami smiled down at the bold colored slimes that were raising a ruckus. "Why, hello there, little ones," she said softly, leaning forward slightly.  

[Meriko]

Serene hopped as gracefully as she knew how to the edge of the island toward the newcomers, turning this way and that and waiting for the praise and adoration that was her due. When the Konami diety turned to the sink, Serene was aghast. Was the diety blind?! Here was a perfect glowing orb of moonbeam and she didn't even notice!

Turning to the dark slime that had come in with the goddess, Serene gave it a quick once-over and then smiled. Adopted by a diety, perhaps, but nothing to compare to her in appearance. Daring to slight the offending diety just a bit by snubbing the diety's slime, she said a bit haughtily to the dark one, "And you are...?" in a tone that implied she didn't expect much in the answer.  

[Meriko]

Glancing at the clock above the window, Meriko decided that it might be dinner time. Playfully moving Squishy off the notebook by rolling him under her palm, she stood up from her stool and began sorting her paperwork.

Chinese? Ooh, sushi? She wondered if Konami had dinner plans already. And whether or not she liked raw fish.  

[Konami Shojou]

Thanatos was quite to content to sulk in a corner, but that didn't seem in the cards today. He cringed slightly at the imperious voice of the silver slime, so like the one at home it was almost fun.

"Quite possibly the most punished slime in existence," he muttered under his breath in answer to the question. Turning, he glared sideways at the shining slime. No doubt about it -- this was one of HER sisters.

"Thanatos," he replied in monotone.  

[Meriko]

Serene decided that if this surly slime was in fact the most punished slime in existence, he'd probably done something to deserve it. Plain, dark, hadn't even said anything about how the flourescent lights glimmered on her body. She decided to give him another chance.

"I am Serene," she declared, bouncing once to show off her sparkles. "Meriko has adopted me, because I'm so beautiful."

In point of fact Meriko had received Serene as a gift.

"I live over there, next to Squishy." How do you like that, she added in her mind. Gorgous, Meriko's, and Squishy's neighbor. Bring on the adoration.  

[Konami Shojou]

"And here I thought she adopted you because of your stellar personality," Thanatos replied flatly, turning back to stare out the window. Geez, were ALL shine slimes this obnoxious? Not exactly the deepest conversationlists.

Not that he was looking for conversation anyway. Perish the thought.  

[Meriko]

The sarcasm flew past so high over Serene's head that she didn't even feel the wind of its passing.

"Well, I am beautiful inside and out," she replied, feeling smug at having extracted a compliment - finally! - from one of the visitors. Satisfied, she turned away from Thanatos and began to move toward the newest visitors, but alas, her personal diety seemed to have decided that it was time for some new activity.

Meriko continued to palm-roll Squishy just for kicks until he fell right off the countertop and into the hip pocket of her labcoat, and then reached over to her sparkly new slime and subjected her to the same treatment.

"Hnnnnrrrraaaahhhhhhnn!" protested Serene as she was rolled unceremoniously across the countertop, her face smooshing into the smooth surface and then along the warm ridges of her diety's hand. She gasped as she plunged off of the island and then fell into a roomy pocket of her owner's outer garment.

"Time for dinner," Meriko announced to her pockets, and then looked at Konami and cardi. "I'm starving. I just realized. You guys want to join me for some sushi? I found a really nice place in Durem. Prime yellowtail."

She moved to the door and paused in the doorway.
