■ JADED For the majority of her life Bryony was an optimistic sort of person; not quite cheerful but certainly approaching every day with a positive outlook. She was cautiously hopeful that things would go her way. After the deaths of her husband and son she has come to expect the worst to break down her door at any time, and generally goes about her days bracing herself for the other shoe to drop. For the sake of her surviving family she attempts to put forward a calm, assured demeanor, but inside she usually wonders what's next.
■ NEUTRAL Bryony has always been a very neutral (at least outwardly) person, not one to jump to assumptions or conclusions without learning all the facts first, and not quick to anger or impulsive decisions. She has a great deal of patience (she has to, being a mother of four), and generally keeps her opinions to herself and a few close confidantes. She's not one to gossip or look down on others, but remains of the belief that people worthy of her contempt deserve every ounce of scorn directed their way, and will often flatly call others out on their poor manners.
■ INTUITIVE Bryony, although no fool, has always been one to go with her gut feeling, which most of the time seems to work in her favor. If a situation feels wrong, she gets out of it as quickly and politely as possible. If she doesn't trust someone, she keeps them at arm's length. Her younger brother likes to joke her with that she might be 'half a Seer', as 'I was right' and 'What did I tell you?' was a constant refrain heard from her as a child. Her deepest regret is that the one time when it mattered the most, her intuition didn't send off any warning signs, at least none that she ever noticed.
■ CONSCIENTIOUS As a student at Hogwarts, Bryony typically spent hours on homework, not necessarily because she didn't understand it, but because she wanted to be sure she'd done it as best she could. Her notes in every class, even the ones she never did well in, were meticulous. As an adult she is a massive fan of planners, charts, and the like. Everything needs to be up to her standards of organization, which frequently exasperates her when it comes to her very messy children. If a product doesn't come out just the way she wants it, she scraps it and starts again.
■ PITILESS Bryony is not a very sympathetic person inclined to feeling sorry for others, or for that matter, herself. Since the death of her husband and son she has thrown herself into her work and her role as a mother to climb out of the depths of her grief, and cannot stand what she calls the 'Widow Look' or people offering their apologies for her loss. The assumption that she is incapable of raising her children alone especially stings, and as Bryony cannot stand pity directed at herself, does not typically offer it to others. Forgiveness is no longer something she believes she can afford.
■ GROUNDED Bryony has always been very practical, especially for someone coming from a house often assumed to be 'airy' or 'holier than thou'. She has two concerns: her family and her business. She will not sacrifice one for the sake of the other, but she can't allow either to fail. This has resulted in a constant balancing act which tends to leave Bryony more than a little stressed and overextended, but she feels that the mundane details of her everyday life are what are keeping her from tearing her hair out or attempting murder herself.

CHILDHOOD Bryony was born in Bath, England, in a middle class home directly overlooking the river. Her father, Mason Summers, was a muggle man who had, unbeknownst to him, fallen in love with a witch, and Shelby Summers did not reveal her double life to him until shortly after the wedding. To his credit, he took it well, and they went on to have three children, Bryony being the oldest. Two years later her sister Iris followed, and then a brother, Fulton, four years after that. Unfortunately complications during the birth led to Bryony's mother passing away shortly afterward, leaving her father widowed and she and her siblings without a mother.
SCHOOL YEARS Bryony arrived at Hogwarts hoping to be placed in Hufflepuff, like her late mother, but wasn't terribly upset with her sorting into Ravenclaw. While she enjoyed being in the house of wit and learning, she was a quiet, slightly moody adolescent who kept to herself much of the time, briefly dating a few boys, and spending most of her days tucked up in a corner of the common room with a book in hand, or looking after her flighty younger sister, who seemed determined to waltz into trouble at every turn. She had some hopes initially of becoming a healer, but quickly realized she lacked the necessary skills in DADA and Herbology to secure a position. The only thing she really enjoyed in her spare time aside from reading, knitting, or enviously watching Quidditch games was baking, and her few attempts at making chocolates and fudge for her family had always gone over well.
POST GRADUATION After graduating Bryony apprenticed at a bakery, which was where she met her future husband. At around Christmas time a young man came in, wearing a lightly ridiculous hat and a ludicrous scarf, and very solemnly inquired who had been responsible for the birthday cake sent out the previous week with 'Happy 21st, Seumas!' in green frosting. Bryony raised her hand behind the counter. "Ah 'hink ye mus' be a goddess or somethin'," said Seumas not quite smoothly, "Because 'at cake was heavenly."
It was love at first sight. Not really, but Bryony's oldest son, Todd, was born the following summer, a month early. The wedding was that next winter. Bryony loved her husband and her husband loved her, and family was very important to Seumas, since his parents had died in his second year at Hogwarts, and two years into their marriage his older brother passed away in a freak flying accident. By the time Bryony was twenty eight she had a still loving husband, five wonderful children and was looking into buying the sweets shop in Hogsmeade. Life was as close to perfect, she thought, as one could hope for in an imperfect world.
Then one day in the summer she went out with her daughters and infant son, leaving her other two sons, Todd and Callum, home with Seumas. His sister was supposed to stop by later, having just gotten back from her honeymoon after finally eloping with her longtime lover, who'd recently, and amicably, divorced his wife. Bryony and Illisa had had their squabbles in the past, but she'd always liked Nathaniel Hargrave, who'd she'd met several times before, his now former wife, Liliana, and Nathaniel's younger brother, Faron. It was a shame that the patriarch of the Hargrave family was such a tyrant, she'd thought. They all seemed rather lovely individually.
When Bryony finally came home with the girls and the baby, the house was silent, but the door was unlocked. The first thing that registered with Bryony was that she couldn't hear the boys roughhousing. The second was that it looked like someone had thrown a bucket of red paint down the stairs. Seumas had been killed instantly, ten year old Todd some time after. Illisa had been left for dead. Callum was found hiding in the back of an upstairs closet hours later. The bodies of Miriam, Nathaniel, and Liliana Hargrave were found at their home shortly thereafter. Nathaniel and Liliana's two daughters, Miranda and Callista, had been fortunate enough to be visiting cousins in Spain.
Ira and Faron Hagrave were apprehended by Aurors four days later, Ira killed in the process. Faron stood trial, calmly recounted the murders down to minute details like the color shirt Todd had been wearing, and was sentenced to life in Azkaban for the murder and torture of his brother Nathaniel Hargrave and Todd Thorburn, and for assisting with the murder and torture of his mother, Miriam Hargrave, sister-in-law Liliana Hargrave, and Seumas Thorburn, as well as the torture and attempted murder of his sister-in-law, Illisa Hargrave.
Bryony bought the shop in Hogsmeade and moved house, as she could no longer enter the old house through the front door without having a panic attack every time she looked at the stairs.

While he was sorted into Ravenclaw like the vast majority of his relatives, he was definitely placed there less for his intellect or desire to learn, and more for his imagination and desire to create. He's an exceptionally inventive person, quick-thinking and witty. He likes to take risks just to see how they'll pan out, and comes up with rather interesting ideas when pressed.

xxx»» He's a man who loves his pleasures. Nice fabrics, fine dining, if it has a hefty price tag he's probably interested. He doesn't even realize he's doing it half the time, he just seems drawn to the finer things in life. Since being forced to move out of his parent's home, he's struggling somewhat, because his current living situation isn't quite up to his decadent standards. Still, he makes due with what he has, and tries to find ways to fulfill his desires without living beyond his means. He's taken to checking out thrift stores and estate sales to try and snag deals on expensive antique furniture and designer clothing. He's surprisingly good at it. His flat is small, but it looks like something out of an Oscar Wilde novel.

xxx»» Up until the birth of his cousin Anandi, a full decade after his own, Mahavir was the baby of the family. He was doted on by his older siblings and cousins, given everything he asked for by his parents, aunts, and uncles, and coddled by his grandparents. He's very used to getting his way, and doesn't quite know how to deal with being rejected. It's been difficult for him recently, since his family finally realized they weren't doing him any favors and decided to force him to grow up and act like an adult. He's learning his lesson, somewhat, but things come so easy to him that the punishment/life lesson hasn't been as effective as his family would've liked.

xxx»» Mahavir's attention span is focused entirely on what's most interesting at any given moment. All that's required to get him passionate about something is to stick him in a conversation with someone who is already passionate about it. He'll listen to someone go on for hours about their special interests, and by the end of the conversation he's usually just as invested as they are. He feels things very strongly. To Mahavir, every good thing that happens is the same as Christmas morning to a child. Actually, every morning is like Christmas morning, because he sees each day as being full of opportunity for exciting new things.
CHARISMATIC
xxx»» Part of the reason things typically come so easily to Mahavir is that he's a very hard man to dislike. He's very open and friendly, and very good at keeping up with friends. He charms people through the clever tactic of... actually taking an interest in what they have to say. He's an exceptionally open person, and very polite. All of it adds up to the sort of person people just tend to get along with. Even in cases where he seemingly has nothing in common with another person, he'll try to find some small shred of common ground to stand on. He knows how to talk to people, and it's never failed him thus far. He's not really taking advantage of people exactly, but he'd be lying if he said he hadn't benefited immensely from being so likable.

xxx»» It's not so much that Mahavir tries to stand out. He just does, it's in his nature. He dresses very well, but very ostentatiously. It's not so much that he's trying to put his sexuality on display, but it's certainly a factor. He tends to get slightly frustrated when handsome men don't realize he's flirting with them. Especially since he's rather obvious about it. In addition, he finds that dressing a little eccentrically can open a lot of conversations, as well as attract interesting people. He likes the attention, but it's more that he likes the end result than he actually likes being focused on. Truthfully, he'd rather use his loud appearance to draw people in, and then talk about them. He's an open book, so it's not hard to get to know him. He finds that other people tend to be much more interesting, and would rather talk about them than himself.

xxx»» Mahavir was the fourth child of Sahil Chahal and his wife Sarah Eaton-Chahal, and the youngest grandchild on either side of his family (at least, up until the birth of Anandi ten years later). His father's family was very close-knit, and he was a full five years younger than the next-youngest cousin on his mother's side. He was also the only son, and his maternal grandparent's only grandson. The combination resulted in a lot of attention being foisted on him from many sides, resulting in an exceptionally happy childhood and an exceptionally happy child. He wanted for nothing, and generally, wanted nothing, though he'd never turn down a gift when it was offered. He was very spoiled, but rarely asked for anything. Most of the time, something was in his hands before he'd even realized it was a thing to be desired. He grew out of this somewhat as he got older, becoming a little demanding at times, but he was never unreasonable, so the family was content to let it slide.
SCHOOL YEARS
xxx»» Like most of his family, Mahavir was sorted into Ravenclaw. Unlike his family, he didn't tend to do very well in school. He was very much a typical Ravenclaw, but not the way his relatives were. While most of them tended to be more book smart, reading and consuming and memorizing and learning, he was of a more artistic bent. He was easily distracted in his lessons, frequently zoned out if the material didn't interest him, and generally didn't seem to care much. The only areas in which he really shined were his creative outlets; Mahavir was a clever child, and exceptionally talented. He was quite the artist, in many respects, and what he lacked in booksmarts he certainly made up for in creativity. Where his cousins and siblings would falter because there was no logical solution, he would find an unusual answer, leaving them all scratching their heads and wondering how he'd done it. His grades upon graduating were nothing spectacular, but he wasn't overly worried about it.
ADULTHOOD
xxx»» While Mahavir's paternal family wasn't very well-off, his mother's muggle relatives were exceptionally wealthy. They also believed firmly in having a 'gap year' that could be used to travel, thinking that few things could enrich a young man like discovering the world. Mahavir was more than happy to take advantage of their willingness to fund his travels, and ended up being out in the world for a bit longer than the intended year. At first, his grandparents didn't see any harm in it, figuring that nothing bad could come of the experience. But, as time wore on, they had to admit that it seemed rather like Mahavir had no desire to come home and make a living for himself. It wasn't that he was trying to mooch off his relatives, of course, he was just having such a good time that it didn't occur to him that it should have to end.
xxx»» Eventually, the decision was made for him; his grandfather wrote him and let Mahavir know that he had another six months to enjoy himself, and then he would have to come home. Not concerned, he made the most of those six months, and returned home on schedule. Unfortunately, he still didn't seem particularly inclined to 'grow up', and basically couch surfed between relatives. He was always a welcome addition to the household, helping with cooking and cleaning and childcare, but there was still a distinct lack of responsibility in his life. Eventually, both sides of his family agreed to discontinue supporting him, to force him to learn to support himself. They helped him find a relatively cheap flat in Newcastle, and then waited for him to find a job. When he didn't seem to be making much headway in that department, they collectively agreed to give him a date by which they would cease paying his rent, regardless of his employment status.
