Dhyl glanced at Ada when she started laughing at him. Why would she do that?! Here he was, genuinely concerned for his friends, and she was laughing at him! His eyes narrowed into a glare, before he cocked an eyebrow. "If their team isn't being attacked, we need to figure out who is. I mean, there are a ton of people in a coma, and the attacks have been spread out. We just gotta figure out who's doing the attacking. It can't be random... can it? There has to be something in common." He sighed, then shoved his hands in his pockets. Ada said it was "sweet of him" to try and protect them. "So you're telling me that if you had a chance to possibly prevent your best friend and or younger sibling from a coma, you wouldn't even try? That's nice." She said it was nice to have someone who cared as much as he, so he softened a bit. A lot of the girls in his house had become like sisters, even though he'd never admit it, for fear of being creepy. Well... even Minn annoyed him sometimes.

Adalaide smiled at Dhyl, her eyes sympathetic. He was obviously very worried about Rem and the others. Her head tilted to the side. "I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to laugh. It's not funny, really. I just... it was strange, that you were insisting that luck was a hoax and after trying to reverse a jinx on them by calling them bad players. I mean, the logic of why it would work sort of makes sense, if you believe in that sort of thing. I just... it's like meeting a muggle who believes in poltergeists but not ghosts. It was... strange." She tapped her chin a bit and brushed her hair behind her ear, her expression thoughtful. "But, I mean, it's true, there has to be a connection... something they all have in common or something. It can't just be random. So... what do they all have in common? I mean, I don't know, I'm not friends with any of the people who've... fallen asleep. Really the only one I know is Professor Powell. So I wouldn't know where to start." When Dhyl implied that she wouldn't do something to protect her friend, she frowned. She'd do anything, no matter how silly anyone else thought it seemed, to protect her brother or Chris or any of her friends. Hell, she'd do it to save a complete stranger, really. "If I could think of any way I thought would help to protect or take care of anyone important to me, I'd do it, even if meant... running naked through the quad in the dead of winter."

She flushed at that. What an awkward thing to say... but it'd been the most ridiculous, embarrassing thing she could think of to do. "I just... I dunno. Like I said, the logic is there, sort of, so I can see how you might think that would help. And who knows? Maybe you're completely right. Although, given that some of the students haven't been on Quidditch teams, I think we can cross vengeful opponents off the list of suspects... besides... I mean, like you said, Gryffindor wasn't doing so well, even before everyone started falling asleep. Surely someone trying to win the Cup or whatever would be taking out... well, another team? And besides, I know that people can be competitive, but is there really anyone so competitive that they'd do that? This has got to be something bigger than that..." The only reason to target Quidditch players was to take out the competition, right? So, logically, they would be taking out the best players from the biggest competition... which, as far as anyone knew, Gryfindor was not.

She ran a hand through her hair, ruffling it a bit, thoughtful. A chill ran down her spine, and she looked at Dhyl with a somewhat stricken expression.
"This has got to be some big, awful thing, doesn't it? Something horrible." Adalaide thought of the story of the last time students were just suddenly falling asleep... they hadn't really been asleep that time, they'd been paralyzed, and the snake was dead, so obviously this was something different... but it was hitting the school on an equally wide scale, and seemingly random, just like before... she bit her lip. This might be really dangerous...

                                                          ═════════════════════════════════

Dhyl looked at Ada, her eyes full of what he could only call sympathy. Why would she be sympathetic of him? Did he look pitiable?! The naturally tall teen straightened from his slouch, adding quite a few inches to his height. "Not really, I think. I mean, they have the skill, I've played against Remy enough times to know so. It's more... they don't have the ability to turn skill into results, you know? I also think Rem is trying too hard. She's struggling, particularly now, but can't do anything about it. It was bad enough for her to get a team that had just failed for a year, but I know she feels personally guilty that they have yet to win since she's become Captain. I wish I could help them." Returning to his more natural posture, Dhyl slumped back down, then tucked his hands into his pockets. He listened to her talk about the sleeping people, and something about the topic caused him to yawn. After blinking a few times, he looked at Ada. Hopefully she hadn't noticed. Even if he wasn't knocked into a coma, she'd probably berate him about having pulled two all-nighters in a row to read... Adjusting his glasses slightly, the taller teen looked at the girl. "Something horrible, yes. Big? Not necessarily. It could be a short person." Of course, he would try and make light of a grave situation. To try and make himself look like less of an arse, he gave a teasing smile. There.... Crisis averted.... right?

Adalaide's eyes went a bit wide when Dhyl suddenly stood straight, feeling suddenly very, very small. She didn't think she'd ever really seen him at his full height before. He was usually slouched or seated... or seated and slouched. It was odd to suddenly realize how much taller he was than she. Although, it shouldn't have come as much of a surprise. She was rather on the short side... something that played to her advantage on the Pitch, but not so much anywhere else. He'd always stood taller than her, of course, even slouched, but... she'd never realized just how much taller he was until now.

She listened as he talked about the Gryffindor team, completely on the same page with him. It seemed like with each loss, the Gryffindor Captain lost a little more fire. It was normal, though, for people to blame themselves for everything that went wrong when they were in the position of power... even if that position didn't really amount to much. Ada sighed a bit.
"I think you're right. They're all good players... or, I mean, the vets are, I'm not sure about the Reserves they're having to call in yet. But they're... they don't seem to have then... our team is in sync, you know? Me and you and Lyv have a rhythm with each other. Heather and Tobi do. And Ariana is amazing. And we all work together. But... they don't always seem to. There's something... discordant about them. They don't harmonize well. And Remy tries but it doesn't seem to be working. Maybe... I don't know, maybe they need to do team building exercises or something." Ada would always be grateful that Dhyl had worked with her and Lyv so well in their first couple of games. He'd not tried to be the star player, the veteran that knew all. He'd let them play, given them a shot. Ada was completely convinced that was the reason they all played so well. She never had to worry about looking for someone to pass to when she was in a tight spot, because someone was always there. If the ball was stolen from one of them, the others were on the opponents tail immediately. It was partially Heather's leadership, she supposed, but it was mostly them, and their willingness to work together.

When he yawned, her eyes narrowed.
"Oh, don't you fall asleep, too!" she teased, but there was an undercurrent of genuine worry. "Please tell me you've just been staying up late studying and you're not about to pass out on me. I mean, it'd only be fair for me to have to carry you to the Hospital Wing, but I mean... I think it was probably a lot easier for you than it would be for me." She giggled a bit, but the seriousness was still there. Whatever was going on shouldn't be taken lightly. But, Dhyl did just that, cracking a joke, and she rolled her eyes, laughing at it. "Alright, you caught me. I'm doing it. I'm secretly an evil mastermind." It was probably the first time in history Ada had ever made a short joke about herself... and Dhyl wouldn't even notice the significance. But maybe it was better that way; better that she could just make a joke without having to answer to why it had come so easily. She smiled. All the bickering and disagreements aside... she felt like she and Dhyl could be really good friends.

                                                          ═════════════════════════════════

Dhyl sighed for his friend, knowing they likely wouldn't win until their full team returned. "No, I think their honest problem, at least this year, is that half of their players are snoozing. What is Rem supposed to do? Heck, she put my sister on starting line. Have you seen Minn play? She's not as good as she seems. Not to mention, when they have to play Slytherin, I foresee more than one Lion getting knocked off their broom. Sadly, knowing Dominic's trend, Romy and Minn are the first to go. I-I can't let her get hit! I've been hit by Montague. It hurts like hell. Minn's a freaking twig. Not... not a twig like Remy, since Rem's pretty good about playing through the pain. Mouse fell off her bike once and cried for forty-five minutes. She can't survive a game against Slytherin. I'm just glad Ronyo's gone... for her sake." He sighed, then pulled his hat off and shoved it in his pocket. Black hair, for once, looked disheveled and messy, but the teen didn't seem to notice or care. Blue eyes gave a light twinkle as he asked, "D'you think I'm too protective of her?"

When Ada told him not to fall asleep as well, he shook his head, mussing his hair even farther. "No, no. Just tired. I haven't exactly slept in... erm... three days...? Well... maybe four. I lose count." He thought about it, trying to remember just when he'd last slept. His stomach gave a rather loud noise, given the boy was drawing ever closer to the Great Hall. "Speaking of last time... have I eaten today? God I'm hungry." When Ada mentioned that she was the mastermind, he blinked, then started laughing. It started as a small smile, then escalated into an awkward laugh. It sounded like he was hiccoughing, with rather "manly" giggles perched in between. After a few seconds, his cheeks went a bit red and he covered his mouth with his fingers, looking rather embarrassed by the sound he'd just made.

Ada frowned. He did sound a bit overprotective... but then, that's what being an older sibling was about, wasn't it? Looking out for them? She couldn't say she wouldn't do the same. "After getting my hip broken by Dominic, I can honestly say, no, not one bit. I mean, Keepers don't get hit very often, but still. It's always a risk, and if she's... delicate, or whatever, I can understand wanting to keep her off the pitch. I mean, as long as it's not just because she's little or a girl or something like that. I think the question is, if it weren't your little sister, would you feel the same way?" Ada had no idea if her brother would be interested in Quidditch or anything like that, but she knew that he could be a total prodigy and she still wouldn't stop worrying about him.

When Dhyl couldn't remember how long it'd been since he'd slept, that little bit of over-protectiveness Adalaide had in her stepped up and growled. Her inner monologue was shrieking at him to take a nap. But, she kept it quiet. It wasn't her place to tell him to go to bed, he wasn't her brother or her son or something. Instead, all she did was shrug, and say,
"You should probably get a bit of sleep then. What's been keeping you up?" Ada couldn't imagine not sleeping for four days... she tended to oversleep, actually. Although, given that she had a pretty strict daytime schedule and her boyfriend was definitely nocturnal... yeah, she'd have to get over that. She'd be dropping Astronomy next year, though, so maybe she could take the time she'd have been in that class and using it to see him instead. She'd have to talk to him about that...

Dhyl's laugh at her joke almost made her burst out laughing herself. It seemed incredibly out of character for him, and yet... it also suited him, in a rather odd way. She giggled a bit, and then nudged him in his arm.
"Let's head to the Great Hall, yeah? I'm starved." She sped up her pace, having realized that, while they'd not stopped, they'd been sort of meandering at a rather slow pace. The growling of her stomach was getting louder and more insistent, so she was keen on getting something in it.

                                                          ═════════════════════════════════

I burn, burn like a wicker cabinet, chalk white and oh so frail
I see our time has gotten stale
The tick tock of the clock is painful
All sane and logical, I want to tear it off the wall
I hear words and clips and phrases
I think sick like ginger ale
My stomach turns and I exhale

I would swallow my pride, I would choke on the rinds
But the lack thereof would leave me empty inside
Swallow my doubt turn it inside out
Find nothin' but faith in nothin'
Want to put my tender, heart in a blender
Watch it spin around to a beautiful oblivion
Rendezvous then I'm through with you

Dhyl was walking back from tryouts, a bright sparkle to his eye. Of course, the teen was headed to shower, then maybe go to the library for a few hours and study. He slipped his cloak off, then draped it over his arm. There. now he was cooler, at least slightly. He pushed a strand of hair out of his eyes, grinning. Vaguely, he wondered how the other teams' try-outs had gone, but he had a funny feeling his sister would hunt him down and let him know. She was good about that. Creepy, sometimes, but good.

Minn walked beside Romy, decidedly staying quiet. She just needed to think, and from his look, he needed to do the same. Green eyes finally looked up from the floor to see a certain giant Hufflepuff. "Dhylly!" She ran at him, then hugged him tight, head resting against his belly. "Oh, Dhylly, it was so awful! Everything had been great, and Romy even caught the Snitch two whole times and Remy was being awesome and... and..." She took a deep breath, then went back to sobbing into his rather sweaty shirt. "I made Reserve, and so did Romy, and Eun too, but Eun yelled at Romy and made him cry, and Remy..." She started shaking under the weight of her sobs, not even feeling better when she felt a hand lay on her back.

"They cut Rem, Dhyl..."

As if on cue, Minn slammed into his stomach, shaking and crying. She began to explain try-outs, saying Romy had caught twice and everything. The tall teen gave the other boy a thumbs-up, then looked back at his sister. Eun yelled at Romy? What? And then, the last few words... Remy had been cut from the Gryffindor team? Was that even possible? He'd played against the girl for years and years. Remy was literally the Chaser he'd aimed to beat every year. She was the reason he hadn't given up after he'd gone half deaf in his first year!

Dhyl sighed, then squatted down to his sister's level. "Mouse, I know it's hard, but you've just got to let it go. No, I'm not saying become complacent and just give in to everything, but, maybe for now, try to just... avoid Elli. If Remy was cut, I can for darn sure bet Gryffindor's going down, and down hard. But, you have to remember something. You know how when you crumple up paper, then try to straighten it out, it always has those wrinkles? Well, sad to say, trust is the same way. Elli's the Captain now, and, as much as we don't like her choices, they are Elli and... whomever her Vice Captain is' choices. I promise it'll be okay." He wrapped his arms around the younger girl, then lifted her into his arms. After the work-out Heather'd given him all summer, her tiny form was like a feather. Blue eyes turned on Romy. "Thanks, Romy. Congrats on catching the Snitch. I knew you could do it. I'm going to take her to my dorm for a while so she can calm down and maybe take a nap." He pat Romy's shoulder, then headed off toward his dorm, carrying his sister, who had wrapped herself in his cloak.

No adequate rationalization can be made for our solitude
This evening, infant
This evening, infant
I have determined a justification
For our mutual collaboration
its difficult to stimulate your nervous system
to condone hazardous conditions

I will now sprint to
the outer perimeter with you
So we can descend in adoration

Romy was walking with Minn, when all of a sudden, the girl took off at a sprint. The soft thud she made when she ran into Dhyl made him wonder how the taller teen was still standing. Minn began her explanation of tryouts, he gave sad nods, then rolled his eyes at Dhyl's thumbs-up. "Eun didn't make me cry..." He glanced off in another direction, as if the soft rings around his eyes weren't obvious. All at once, Dhyl was talking in a very... brotherly tone, all comforting and stuff. The tall Hufflepuff scooped Minn up and walked off toward his dorm, but not after offering a word of congratulations.

The younger boy walked to a window and gazed out, staring at nothing in particular. His eyes were glazed over, thoughts dominating his head. Maybe he could think this through if he just... had a grand epiphany or something. Right now, Quidditch wasn't on his thoughts, or, at least the end. What had Eun said? What had he done to upset the Korean? He didn't mean to do anything, if he had. Romy thought hard, remembering grabbing the Snitch, just as Eun had missed, then declaring he had been victorious. Maybe Eun was just mad that Romy had swiped it at last second? That had to be it....

Right?

The uppermost threshold of a promontory
I’m on the outer rim of distinction
Coexisting dangerously close to a cliff

Anna ran through the halls, a sense of deja vu flooding over her. How many times had she done this now? Run down the corridor chasing Romy, that is. It had to be at least three or four times now, and all were for the same reason. She wanted to make sure he was okay. The girl was breathing heavily, but with all this running she had been doing, she was certainly getting better. Her two left feet were on her side at last. As she rounded the corner, she saw a tall boy carrying Minn off towards the basement. That must her brother. She had heard that he was a Hufflepuff Chaser inching closer and closer to six and a half feet in height. But that wasn't what was important. She saw Romy, looking defeated, staring out the window. Taking a moment, she caught her breath, then approached the boy. "Romy? Are you alright?" she asked, her voice soft and gentle. In times like this, she had learned that a caring voice was better than a harsh one, even if you were so mad that the wall looked like a great place for your forehead to be. Anna placed a hand on the boy's arm and tried to catch his eye. His eyes. They were puffy and red, like he had been crying not too long ago. Did he cry when that red haired kid yelled at him? 'If he made my Romy cry... someone's getting a nice little haircut...'

                                        ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
That you were Romeo, you were throwing pebbles, but my head is saying , "Stay away, Juliet." 💙
And I was crying on the staircase, begging you, "Please don't go." And I said... 💙

💙 Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone. I'll be waiting; all that's left to do is run. 💙
💙 You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess. It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes." 💙

No adequate rationalization can be made for our solitude
This evening, infant
This evening, infant
I have determined a justification
For our mutual collaboration
its difficult to stimulate your nervous system
to condone hazardous conditions

I will now sprint to
the outer perimeter with you
So we can descend in adoration

Romy didn't hear the footsteps of the girl, his head still lost to the world of his thoughts. However, when a soft voice sounded, he blinked rapidly, as if trying to return to reality. He looked over to see Anna, then immediately, without any thought, wrapped Anna in a tight hug. "I'll be okay, Annabeth. It was nothing I haven't heard before." He rested his head atop hers, trying not to let tears drip in her hair. That would be odd to explain. He started swaying, the girl still wrapped tight in his embrace.

I’m on the Edge of Glory

Atop the precipice of apotheosis
Suspended from verisimilitude
I’m on the margin of eminence
Dangling on a particular instance in time with you
I’m on the fringe, the periphery, the verge, the extremity
The uppermost threshold of a promontory
I’m on the outer rim of distinction
Coexisting dangerously close to a cliff

Bradley made it to this far, with no one catching him. So he moved across the Ground Floor towards the Entrance to the Basement Corridor, Soon he would be waiting for Tobi, then popping in the kitchens. Then outside. "So far so good." he muttered as he moved throught the halls towards the basement. And soon Tobi. I just hope we don't get caught. he said as he moved on.

Theo, walking around the castle with Alex, contemplated the ridiculousness of the event that had just happened. He really had no idea why so many people had decided to be so...overemotional. He never got so emotional no matter what happened. People have died in his family and he has not gotten nearly as emotional as any of them were just then, but there was no use thinking about it, he soon realized. Then he focused on what he was doing and not the past. He was walking with Alex at the moment.

"So how has your school year been going?" he asked her as they walked. Alex herself seemed to be a nice girl. She was definitely a cute girl...there was no doubt about that. He had thought that from the first time he saw her, but other than that, he had no idea about her, other than the fact that she liked to horseback ride of course.

I hated every minute of training, but I said, 'Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.

Alexandria was surprised how easily the two first years walked snuck out of the common room during the "mandatory" meeting that the Alvern twins set up. However, most people probably didn't care enough to stop them from leaving. After all, they weren't here last year. They weren't a part of all the commotion. Alex shrugged upon hearing Theo's question. "Not bad except for all the crap that's been happening with everyone in our house," she said with a groan. The girl was annoyed by the tension she felt whenever she walked into the common room. That was one reason why nobody would find her in there. "What about you? How's the year been so far?" Alexandria hoped Theo had been doing some interesting stuff. He wasn't on the quidditch team, so maybe he found something more exciting to do with his time?
