spaceIvy hadn't originally planned to sit at the Slytherin table when she's headed towards the Great Hall, but when she'd walked in, that's where her feet had taken her. Probably because she had Vio on her mind. Or, rather, her relationship with Vio, and other people's reactions to it. Specifically, her grandparents. It'd been a couple weeks since she'd gotten the letter, and so far, she'd been good and not said anything about it. She didn't want to b***h at her girlfriend about every little thing. And besides... sometimes when she bitched at Vio, the Slytherin girl disagreed with her, or said she was overreacting, which she didn't really want to hear this time. It wasn't like she thought the blonde was going to agree with her grandparents, but she still might say something like 'don't let it bother you.' Which, Ivy wouldn't let it bother her... except one, they were obnoxious bigots, and two, because of their attitude, her mother was stressing about not being able to afford Ivy's school supplies. They'd already discussed that she'd probably have to re-wear her uniform from this past year, which Ivy was fine with. It was just that she'd managed to grow just enough to make her pants a bit too short, and neither her or her mother were particularly good at a sewing machine. For once in her life, she wished she'd stayed as tiny as she had been a few months ago. Hopefully no one would notice her pants showing her ankles. She sighed, running a hand through her hair and ruffling it in agitation. She had been doing pretty good at not making a big deal out of everything and keeping it to herself, but she was going home tomorrow, so it was fresh on her mind. She'd received a letter from her grandfather, who'd said they'd like to see her once she was home for the Summer, which thankfully Evelyn had vetoed. "You don't have to do anything you don't want to," her mother had written when she'd found out. Thank God, because Ivy would've gone off if she'd had to listen to a lecture about her sexuality from those two. They hadn't even cared about her until she had magic, and now that she was gay, they wanted to poke their nose in her business and tell her what she could and couldn't do? Bullshite. But she didn't want to ruin her last night at the castle with Vio, so she was at least trying to cover it up... Unfortunately, she wasn't very good at it.

_______________________________________
The end of another school year; the end of freedom. Stop being dramatic, he scolded himself as he rounded about the passageway ascending from the dungeons and on to the antechamber where other students were gathered in clusters. Probably waiting for their mates, he supposed with a glance over their faces to identify any of them, but it was useless so he moved on. The entrance to the great hall was wide open and the four grand tables sprawled in four long rows to the head of the hall, where the podium sat at the head of the dais and the staff table directly behind. For now, the banners of all four houses were showcased on display, but before long, it would all change to summer green. Tristan had a proud swagger in his step as he reached his emerald garbed table and serpentine peers, claiming himself a chunk of territory at the rear of the table.
Summer wouldn’t be so bad—there’d be no homework, and no curfew, or dorm mates to sneak around or best mates to lie to. Sure, he’d spend his full moons locked in the cellar instead of out in the forest, but he could make the best of it, right? He didn’t need a pack, not a real one anyway. He has his mates and his family and that’s pack enough. Hell, I can barbecue, Tristan nodded to himself. It wasn’t a half bad plan. Gnaw on a bone, eat smoked meat and howl obnoxiously at his mum and da’ all night because why the ******** not? It doesn’t have to be all bad; enjoy the little things, right?

Come laugh away who you are and get down; Who you are, who we are, now you're found. To the sun or the bears or the guns... We taking all our vows with your frown! Come on, get down, make a mess, make a bow- Come get down, mighty youth, here and now. So come on honey, cut yourself to pieces! V I O L A N T E F A Y E L I L L A N T I N E Slytherin │ Fourth Year │ Pureblood │ Adopted
Vio thought that, all in all, it had been a very good year. She was coming out of it with a girlfriend, after all, and while it was June and she and Ivy had been officially together since around the holidays, she was still very much in the grips of... puppy love? Was that the term for it? Maybe not so much as other couples their age, but for the most part, her new relationship was the first thing on her mind when she woke up in the morning. Suddenly it was a little easier to understand why Vander and Wendy seemed so intent on christening the common room sofa at least once a week by furiously snogging on it. Of course, her and Ivy's relationship was better by default, because they weren't close minded morons who let their parents control every aspect of their lives.
The blonde girl smiled as she approached her house table, especially considering she recognized Ivy's short red hair immediately. She quickened her pace slightly and slipped into a seat beside the Gryffindor, happy her girlfriend was sitting with her, especially seeing as it was their final feast of this year. Of course, they'd see one another over the summer; her aunt and uncle knew they were dating, and had already told her she was more than welcome to invite Ivy over. They just seemed happy she was being a normal teenager, even if that meant their 'baby' was snogging someone. That said, she would have pecked Ivy on the cheek in greeting, but the other girl seemed... agitated. Clearly something was bothering her, and that made Vio uneasy.
Ivy wasn't having second thoughts about them, was she? She'd seemed fine just yesterday, Vio reassured herself. Ivy would have said something earlier if she no longer liked her, or if something about their relationship made her upset. She wasn't one to suffer in silence, right? So it had to be something else. "What's happened?" she asked immediately, already trying to theorize what the cause of her girlfriend's distress could be. Had someone said something rude to her when she sat down? Even if they had, wouldn't she be more likely to snap right back at them then sit there and take it? Was it her father? Vio regretted the way she had responded to Ivy's ranting about him at the beginning of the year, and she didn't want a repeat. Come on honey, give yourself completely- And do it all though you can't believe it. Youth don't know, youth knows no pain! Come together and join the parade... And get back walk on lost in the trade. With the plants and the shimmering beats; With the wind in my hair, you're free.

I shouldn't laugh, but I know I'm a failure in your eyes. I know it's daft, but I guess that I know it deep inside. It feels like we're ready to crack these days, you and I; When it's just the two of us, only the two of us, I could die. We're gonna separate ourselves tonight... We're always running scared but holding knives... But there's a black chandelier, casting shadows and lies. ᵉ ᵛ ᵃ ᶰ ᵈ ᵉ ʳ ᵗ ʳ ᶤ ˢ ᵗ ᵃ ᶰ ˡ ᶤ ˡ ˡ ᵃ ᶰ ᵗ ᶤ ᶰ ᵉ ˢˡʸᵗʰᵉʳᶤᶰ │ ᶠᶤᶠᵗʰ ʸᵉᵃʳ │ ᵖᵘʳᵉᵇˡᵒᵒᵈ │ ʰᵉᶤʳ
Vander was dreading the return home, as usual, but especially this year, after his OWLs. He hadn't done terribly on them, but he knew he certainly hadn't gotten all Os and EEs, which was what his father expected, as unreasonable as it might be when he'd had sixteen exams to take. His father would be sure to see the scores before he did, and then he was going to get an earful over it. Everyone dreaded being lectured by their parents, but Vander was fairly sure not everyone had Callius Lillantine for a father. He fidgeted in his seat like a little boy, wishing Wendy were already here. He needed to distract himself. Vio was maybe five seats down, next to her girlfriend, looking concerned. Maybe she was getting dumped. He could only hope. Worse came to worse, he'd just do a tell-all of her fling, embellish it as much he could, and let Father tear into her the next time he saw her. It might lessen some of the heat on him. His father hated that he had no control over his niece, and reminding him of that tended to work in Vander's favor. Ordinarily he despised snitching, and preferred to take matters into his own hands, but this was damage control. It was necessary. I'll sit in silence for the rest of my life if you'd like. Dressing our wings with industrial gloves made of wire; Feel it penetrating the skin, we begin to relax, When it's just the two of us, and a cute little cup of cyanide. You left my heart like an abandoned car: Old and worn out, no use at all... But I used to be free.

Stranger in the dark, the lonely night; Heard your mother, calling: "Where you been, Cain, where you been? Where’s your brother?" Cy was unusually optimistic at this particular feast. Ordinarily he would have been bored out of his mind; going home for the summer was never a particularly pleasant prospect. He was for the most part stuck at home, though he thought perhaps he was reaching the age where he'd be allowed out on his own. He'd only ever experienced Diagon- and never Knockturn- under the wing of his mother or shadowed by his scowling brother. He just wanted to explore, see what it was like on his own. But this summer would be different. He had a good feeling about it. Of course, that didn't change the fact that this past week had been the height of dullness. The last interesting thing he'd done had been talking a first year into asking Vander for homework help and watching from a corner of the common room. And as entertaining as that had been, he was pretty sure he could do far better, given the chance. All he needed was some opportunity, you know? Things were so restricted at home. The light goes down; a mark from God; You’re shaking now, your brother’s blood... Left alone, what have you done? Your father’s boy, your mother’s son! Adam in the dark, Adam in the night... Heard a father calling, "Man and sin, Cain, Remember, man and sin love each other." Eve in the dark, the lonely night, only mother calling...

spaceLori was pleased when she immediately spotted Tristan at the Slytherin table, sliding into the seat across from him without hesitation. She was somewhat nervous about the conversation she wanted to have with him, but supposed that, unlike Zeph, her housemate was more than used to her... quirks. And even without knowing her particularly well, the Hufflepuff's reaction hadn't been much more than some laughing (which had not at all been the reaction she'd been expecting) and a polite acquiescence. The 'date' had gone as well as she could have expected, though at the end of it, she'd found herself still having no romantic inclinations, or inclinations of any other sort. When she'd asked if they could have a kiss goodnight at the end of the ball, it had been less because she wanted to kiss him and more because she reasoned that was the logical conclusion. She had, of course, asked, because if he had been uncomfortable with it, she wouldn't have bothered. But, he had been a good sport about it, and as best she could tell, he hadn't seemed overly offended when she'd informed him that she hadn't had a reaction. At this point, she was inclined to believe she was, indeed, asexual, or at the very least an exceptionally late bloomer. But, one date was not a proper test... Hence her need to talk to Tristan.
spaceThe brunette smoothed her skirt and folded her hands together, noting that something seemed to be bothering her friend. She stared hard for a long moment, probably more than was typically considered polite, but she was not particularly concerned with being polite at the moment. She offered him a small frown, head tilting to the side slightly. "Are you alright, Tristan?" she asked, concern evident in her voice. Contrary to popular belief, she was not an emotionless robot. Her mind operated logically more often than it did emotionally, but that didn't mean she felt nothing. And Tristan was her friend, after all, she didn't want anything to be wrong with him. But, she tended to try and tread carefully with him, since she never knew if the thing bothering him was related to his secret, which was obviously a sensitive topic between them, and not something she could bring up in public.
spaceWanting to try and hopefully take his mind off of whatever was distressing him, and also get along with her current mission, she straightened. "I... wondered, if I could ask you something," she said calmly, trying not to show that she was anxious. It wasn't as though she though Tristan would be mean about her proposition, not at all. She was more worried that he might be offended. Again, she as hoping that he would know her well enough to not be, but there was always the chance. "I want to... conduct an experiment, of a sort. A test. I've done one already, but obviously one test isn't enough to reach a proper conclusion." She realized that she was probably making absolutely no sense to the boy, which again, he should be used to, but that didn't mean he didn't deserve clarity. "At... At the ball, I... had a date. I'm not sure if you knew, I haven't really talked about it and I don't believe anyone else has, either. But, it was... It wasn't a date because I was attracted to him, or because he was attracted to me. I set it up so that I could determine if... If I'm even capable of being attracted to anyone. And obviously lacking attraction to one person doesn't mean I don't feel it at all, but I've not noticed any such responses in myself, towards anyone. And I am not sure if this is because I am incapable, or if it is simply some sort of... mental block. Romance and the things related to it, I find confusing, except on the most scientific level. So I'm not certain if I really have no capacity to form a romantic relationship, or if it's simply that my brain is wired in a way that makes it difficult."
spaceShe paused, pursing her lips. She knew she sounded like a total weirdo. To be honest, she probably was one. But she didn't see any reason that had to be a bad thing. She just wanted to know. She disliked uncertainty. Having an actual answer to this question would be nice, because if she found she was incapable, she would like to not concern herself with romance from here on out. And, if she discovered she was, it would warrant some introspection. Namely, to pinpoint what exactly the barrier was, so that she would understand herself better. Her hands separated, one resting on the tabletop, fingers tapping across its surface. "I suppose, simply put, I am asking if you would be willing to... go on a date with me," she said finally, some of her uncertainty finally showing in her eyes. "I am not promising anything would come of it, obviously, it is a test. And, I am the one asking, so I would arrange transportation, and pay if you like, or we could split the cost. But, I believe dinner would be nice? Perhaps a movie?" She shifted in her seat, hoping that, even if he didn't say yes, he wasn't disturbed by her request, or offended.

spaceIvy chewed on the inside of her cheek in exasperation when, the second Vio sat down with her, she immediately realized something was wrong and asked about it. Dammit, she'd been doing so well. Two weeks and the blonde'd had no idea something was wrong. It wasn't like Vio needed to worry about it. And again, she didn't really want to hear the whole 'don't let them get under your skin' lecture. If she were capable of doing that, would she really be sitting here grinding her teeth over it? She wasn't choosing to be annoyed. She simply was, because that was a perfectly reasonable reaction to this situation. Actually, it was far better than some of the reactions she could've had, because there were people out in the world who were weak-willed enough to simply give in, and some who would let it depress them horribly, etc, etc, etc... Ivy was just angry. That was a much better response, at least to her reasoning.
spaceThe redhead deliberated a bit, not really sure how to answer her girlfriend's question. Not a lie, obviously, she wasn't the sort of person to say 'everything's fine' when outright asked what was bothering her. She had already disliked having to play like nothing was bothering her the last few days, and trying to make it not bother her. But she knew that Vio preferred comfortable lies to uncomfortable truths, so she'd been making some effort to let the girl live in blissful ignorance. Unfortunately, she wasn't a liar, not in the least, nor an actress, so it'd only been a matter of time before she slipped up. Of course it'd be tonight. She sighed, ruffling her hair in agitation. "Stupid family stuff," she said finally, frowning. "It's... It's nothing. Just, you know. Par for the course with me. Can't help being a bloody disappointment, somehow." She really hadn't meant to sound that bitter, she thought glumly. But, that was rather how she felt. Dad couldn't handle her being a witch, grandparents couldn't handle her being gay, even her Mum was constantly disappointed in her simply for being herself. Brash and loud, not particularly studious or lady-like. Though, at the moment, her mother's desires for a more demure daughter paled in comparison. At least her personality was something she'd developed, not something she'd been born with. She could at least try to be demure. But if she were to act like a muggle, or straight? That wouldn't be making an effort to be a better, more polite person. It would be lying about who she was, and about things about who she was that she shouldn't have to be ashamed of. Not that she should be ashamed of her personality, either, but even she knew that sometimes it was a pain in the arse that she was the way she was. Her temper left a lot to be desired, and she wasn't exactly great with first impressions (a certain incident regarding a certain Slytherin and a punch in the gut came to mind). But being magical, and gay? She wasn't hurting anyone with either of those things. Her father and grandparents were just bigoted arseholes.
spaceSupposing it wasn't really fair to Vio to leave her statement at that, she sighed, laying her head down on the table and looking at the Slytherin girl. "Apparently, my mum's parents, you know, they were thrilled when I was a witch. Figured I'd reintegrate their family line into the magical world, marry a wizard, have some magical babies with wonderful Kinsley genetics. Not as good as passing on the wonderful Kinsley name, but as good as they were going to get, I suppose. And then, look at that, I'm gay, so no babies. Bully for them." She snorted, obviously irked. "They told my mum to 'take care of it.' She said no, so they said they weren't going to help her pay for my schooling anymore. Mum's freaking out about my books and things, OWLs are next year, she can't let me go to school unprepared for that. I'm looking at secondhand everything that I need, and having to pray I don't spontaneously grow any, because robes aren't happening, nor are alterations."
spaceThe Gryffindor rolled her eyes, sitting back up, and rested her elbows on the table, supporting her chin with her fist. "It's whatever. I'm just pissed that Mum's all stressed over them being arseholes. Sort of a d**k move. What've you got planned for the Summer?" Okay, maybe she was changing the subject, just a bit. But she'd much rather talk to Vio about her Summer plans than complain about her grandparents to her. She liked keeping her girlfriend a mostly drama-free zone, thanks. Besides, she was curious as to how the Slytherin typically spent her holidays, and maybe a little curious as to whether or not she might get to see her at all. It'd suck to only be able to communicate through the owl post for the whole Summer. And, again, she was trying to avoid them disagreeing on her reaction to what was going on. No fighting. Drama. Free. For as long as they could be, anyway, because teenage relationships always had drama eventually.

Vio bit her lip. Ivy kept ruffling her short hair and she really wanted to fix it, but felt like now was probably not the time. "You don't disappoint me," she said frankly, which might have sounded better had she thought to be slightly flirty about it, because maybe that would have made her girlfriend smile, but it was too late now. But the Gryffindor sounded bitter about it and she felt badly. Ivy hadn't asked to have a father who couldn't seem to accept what she was, or a mother she didn't get along with. Of course, Vio hadn't asked for dead parents, but maybe she was better off. She didn't think her father and mother would have been very happy with her dating a girl.
That said, who exactly wasn't happy in Ivy's family? Her father? Her mother? Both? She resisted the urge to immediately pry long enough to let Ivy rest her head on the table and reveal it herself. Oh. Her grandparents. She should have guessed; elderly purebloods weren't likely to be happy about their line not being continued. She should count herself lucky her father's parents were dead, and that she rarely saw her mother's parents, not that she thought they'd care much, or if they did, be able to do anything about. Uncle Callius and Aunt Desdemona were probably losing sleep over her apparent interest in girls and lack of interest in boys, specifically pureblooded boys, but they had no real say over her life. Ivy's grandparents did, via financial control.
Ivy of course immediately tried to change the subject after that, but Vio was less willing to let this go. The way she saw it, this problem had an easy solution, but first she thought she ought to try to be helpful in an emotional support sort of way. "Vander's parents," she said thoughtfully, "Are probably going to try to summon me to their estate to lecture me on my 'impropriety' and attempt to tell me who I should date. Aunt Cora and Uncle Gare will probably politely owl them to go to hell. But Callius and Desdemona Lillantine don't pay for my school things. If they did, they'd probably try the same thing. Your grandparents are being ridiculous, because being gay doesn't mean you can't adopt in the future, and because you can't change who you are and who you like anymore than I can. And I like you best the way you are."
Her expression was somewhat tentative. Had she worded that right? She hadn't sounded dismissive or uncaring, had she? She pecked Ivy on the cheek swiftly, then drew back. "You shouldn't have to suffer because they're being idiots, and stingy idiots at that. I can pay for your school things." This was where she was really walking the tightrope, because she wasn't sure if it might set Ivy off or not. Her first thought had been to just buy all of Ivy's things and give them to her at the end of the summer, but that might a bit too... forward. "I have the extra money, and my aunt Cora will agree with me. It would just be sitting in a bank account either way, and this way I won't waste it on anything frivolous when I come of age." Technically it wasn't her money yet; the Walshes had control over her account, as she was a minor. But they'd agree to this.
"Um. You can think about it, and ask your mum," she said quietly. If Ivy had offered to do the same for her, she couldn't say her pride wouldn't have inclined her to try to turn it down. It was a Lillantine thing. They had difficulty admitting they needed, well, anything. In case Ivy just didn't want to talk about it anymore, she thought it best to go along with that earlier subject change. "My cousin Toby's getting married this summer. The reception's at my house, and I'll be horrifically bored if you don't come." That was probably an exaggeration; Toby was rarely boring. The fact alone that his fiancee, Ronna, would be about six months pregnant at the time was interesting enough. She'd heard all about that from Jess, who was a gossip, and thrilled she was going to be an aunt (that they both were, seeing as Toby considered her a younger sister), and had owled her about it. A lot. Come on honey, give yourself completely- And do it all though you can't believe it. Youth don't know, youth knows no pain! Come together and join the parade... And get back walk on lost in the trade. With the plants and the shimmering beats; With the wind in my hair, you're free.

Stranger in the dark, the lonely night; Heard your mother, calling: "Where you been, Cain, where you been? Where’s your brother?" Cy looked over when the girl beside him spoke up, recognizing her as the Lovette girl. Nicole- no, she went by a nickname. Nike. Victory. "Hi," he said happily. "I am, I s'pose. Maybe I'm homesick." He grinned at that. "What about you?" She had the older brother, with the bird name. Av-something. He was in Ravenclaw, but then again, the Lovettes had a reputation for being Ravenclaws. His father said it was unfortunate, but at least the main family branch was still pure. One of the girls had married a muggleborn, and let him take her name. The horror.

Leon took a seat at the table, his eyes roving around the table as he suppressed a yawn. This year had just been crazy. That was it. He was done with it. He wanted to go back to the land where things made sense again, but apparently that wasn't happening. Instead, he was trapped in this nuthouse, so he might as well make the most of it. Taking a seat, he crossed his arms and waited for the food to arrive, glad that he was leaving to the summer. What he was going to do after he left, he didn't know, but he had a feeling that he was stuck trying to find somewhere to stay.

Aimee entered the hall slowly. It had been a slow year and she wasn't sure how she felt about all of it. Her anxiety might have gotten a tad bit better at least, but she wasn't positive. She still freaked out sometimes. She just wanted to go home and sleep the summer away, but Michael's house was barely her home even... not that she wanted to go back to her mum's house ever. But it was familiar at least. She barely had a place in her.... father's home. She also knew from a letter he'd sent her, that he was going to insist on meeting all her new friends. She was pretty sure he thought she hadn't made any. Probably because from what she knew about her sisters, Ver had made almost no friends in school and Elli basically only ever made friends with Kory's dad... who turned out to be a douche from what Elli had told her. She knew Michael was just looking out for her and wanted her to have a good life, but she just didn't know what that even meant anymore.
Her life with her mum was the only life she'd ever known. It wasn't like it was a good life. It definitely wasn't but its all she'd ever known until August when her dad had showed up and her mum had recognized him and booted her to his feet. She wasn't sure if she knew how to be happy and safe. With a big shrug to her own thoughts, she made her way to the Slytherin table and glanced around.
She couldn't spot Caty, but her eyes fell on the blonde head of Leon and she remembered Caty's words about him at the dance. If Caty liked him, he couldn't be that bad. She walked over and sat in the spot next to him. She didn't say anything for a few awkward seconds before her words came tumbling out. "I know you don't like me, or whatever, but that probably makes you the most sane person I know, since I'm really not likable, but you're Caty's friend and that makes you my friend so we should probably talk more."

_______________________________________ The piney scent of summer breezed in through open windows; cologne and perfume fought like opposing forces trying to hide the salty stain of sweat underneath. Tristan snorted, trying to clear his senses and pinpoint any one familiar trail. Heavy lids drooped to a close. He breathed in deep. Lori, her name repeated in the abyss of his mind. Blue eyes slid open just in time. She swung her robes back and stole the seat across from him, then studied him for a long time, Tristan casually rose a brow but said nothing. She was always doing that, he’d realized. Staring longer than needed. He took it as a challenge at first, (and sometimes still does) locking eyes and meeting her head on until one of them blinked and finally spoke. When she finally did though, Tristan retorted with a shrug and said, ”Just hungry.” It was an easy enough lie, but it was better than mewling like a lost pup about being caged up every moon. Just wanting to run shouldn’t be a crime.
For now, Tristan’s attention divided itself between the sound of nails scratching on wood, bronze cups clinking, and voices, high and low, echoing down the hall. Lorelei’s hesitance forced him to refocus; Tristan blinked and narrowed his eyes, as if trying to block out the rest of the great hall and everyone in it—but they were so loud. ”Sure, what is it?” Tristan said as casually as he could, despite the distractions. And honestly, he was hoping whatever plan this was involved exploring the castle one last time by ditching the feast. That would be lovely. But then the discussion shifted to experiments and the hair on the back of his neck rose stiff. Experiments?” Tristan repeated quietly, his gaze traveled to the corner of his eyes as he envisioned trying to induce his werewolf state under contrasting circumstances. Like no full moon. He’s considered the possibility at least half a dozen times because as much as he hates to admit it; he likes it. The wolf is empowering. And it’s growing stronger, every month.
”Oh!” Tristan said once she explained herself. Dates, right. Of course…Wait, what? Blinking rapidly, his heart sank into a frozen pit in his belly. All he could do was blink as she unleashed a whirlwind of an explanation, and Tristan found it hard to keep his face stoic throughout it all. She had a date? With who? Blue eyes scanned the great hall uselessly, but it’d been too much to resist. Was someone looking at her? Were they watching? Who? No. Wait. She hesitated again. Tristan retreated his gaze to hers, trying to keep calm and not at all—what is this, jealousy?—because what she was saying was far more important than his petty defensiveness. She was confused. He could see it on her face. Incapable of being attracted to anyone? He repeated mentally, and it was such a foreign concept. One he almost envied. How many times had he choked down his feelings, ignored the butterflies in his belly because what’s the point? He’s a beast. Who wants that…?
She paused, probably nervous, and Tristan grasped his mind for anything and could only come up with, ”I see…” He blinked again, vision darting up and down the table for anything to focus his attention on then shifted uncomfortably in his seat. After all that, he still didn’t know what her motive even was, and forced himself to meet her eye again and not on her fingers rasping at the wood. But once the proposition was proposed, he found he was at another loss for words. ”Umm…” he hummed, heat flushing his cheeks, though he tried to ignore it by swallowing the frog jumping up and down his throat. ”Sure?” Tristan was laughing nervously now. Why was he even laughing? What was funny? It didn’t matter, because it had to be better than staring awkwardly, right? Right.
Wrong. What if she thought he was laughing at her? Or making fun of her? Coughing awkwardly to chase away the chuckle, his palms were sweaty sliding through unkempt hair. ”Sorry I uh…” Never been on a date before? But instead, he said, ”I guess I was expecting to hear plans about exploring the castle one last time before we go, but, I mean… Yeah, yeah…” He only hoped he didn’t sound as nervous as he felt. ”That’s what friends’re for, right?” Somehow, that didn’t sound right. But it was too late to take back now.
