яεġrετ┃ηστнιηġ ♦ ғεαя┃ησ σηε ♦ ταkε prιdε ιη┃εvεяyτнιηġ"Eh, not really. I just had a feeling." Colton replied to the first year, nodding his head as the boy continued to ramble on. His real attention was on the team captain who began throwing out instructions. A smile of relief took over his face as he followed the boy up to the table where the forms had been laid out. Grabbing one of the pieces of parchment, he quickly scribbled down his information.
Name: Colton Raines Year: Second Position 1: Beater Position 2: Chaser
Eager to get in the air, Colton put his form on top of the others and instantly mounted his broom. Rising into the crisp air with no sign of hesitation, he spun into a corkscrew as he ascended above the other students. Working his way around the pitch, Colt zigged, zagged, and did exactly what had been asked of him - show off.
After his Firebolt II had reached its full speed, the boy shot up into the air some twenty feet before reversing his direction and diving straight for the ground, pulling up only at the last second. Returning to the height of the goal posts, the Gryffindor continued doing laps around the warm green grass that was laid out like a carpet below him. He switched back and forth between different techniques, flying with only on hand - or no hands, upside down, sideways... Colton wanted to prove that no matter where the bludger went and how, by all means he would be able to stop it.
And thus he continued to illustrate how extensive his practices had been and the effort he had put forth in his advanced flying class. He hadn't devoted so much time to one thing since he and his friends had locked themselves in his family's study over the summer. He and his fresh buzz cut were determined not to have put forth so much time and effort to walk away from the Quidditch try-outs empty handed.

яεġrετ┃ηστнιηġ ♦ ғεαя┃ησ σηε ♦ ταkε prιdε ιη┃εvεяyτнιηġColton swooped lower to the ground when the team captain began throwing out instructions. Nodding towards Tyler in acknowledgement, Colt caught the bludger bat that was thrown to him with ease and tore up towards the sky. Circling slowly, the boy waited until he could map out the general path of one of the crazed bludgers. Lowering his body to his broomstick, he quickly began to accelerate towards the ball's path, keeping his broom steady but at the same time illustrating how hard he had practiced for this day. Colton dipped, dodged, and dove up, down, and from side to side, visualizing thirteen other players scattered throughout the field and symbolizing obstacles in his path.
As he approached the bludger, the Gryffindor held the bat out to his right side, slowly spinning his wrist to get used to the weight. It was almost as if the ball had a mind of its own as it tried to fool him in which direction it was going. Finally, the sphere sped up and shot directly towards his face. Colton submerged himself in concentration rather than hesitation, jerking his broom sharply to the left before cocking back his dominant arm and tightening his grip on the heavy bat. With a deep breath, he swung the wooden handle with all of his might, aiming for the core of the badgering bludger.

яεġrετ┃ηστнιηġ ♦ ғεαя┃ησ σηε ♦ ταkε prιdε ιη┃εvεяyτнιηġ"Whew!" Colton wasn't exactly surprised, but more relieved to see that he had successfully knocked the bludger out of its path. Before he could celebrate, however, another bludger had intercepted his path, and was headed directly for him. Quickly gathering speed and focus, Colt readied his bat for another hit. This time, he chose to raise the stakes. Rather than just trying to hit the ball, he planned to aim it towards one of the goal posts, pretending it was a player on the opposite team. His plan was again changed when the ball switched paths, flying directly towards another student. He followed the bludger instantly, gaining speed to save who could possibly be a future teammate of his. Diving towards the bludger this time to increase the emphasis in his hit and to get to it in time, Colt swung hard, following through with his original plan while still trying to save the other player.
