I didn't even think you could have a pet fox!" Viv awed at Halice. Foxes were always so cute and mischievous to her she couldn't imagine having one as an actual pet. It was sort of funny to hear that between all three of them, they've had family in pretty much every house but none of them had any real consideration for any of them. She giggled as Kenna explained that she wanted the hat to place her somewhere she'd vibe since she reminded her allot of Sara going on about vibes and star charts and all that other weird stuff. Whatever made them happy she supposed. She still nodded though when the girl hoped they could get into the same house or the very least stay friends if separated. "Of course! I've never really had friends my own age before." Viv admitted a bit self conscious as she tugged slightly at her jeans. In the back of her mind she could hear Zoe sniping about how unprofessional or ladylike she was becoming but she just tuned it out like usual.
Thankfully her awkward confession was interrupted by an older woman with a trolley filled with sweets causing her mouth to water and give a million thanks to Ava's foresight and gift of money. After that, she happily sat with her new friends enjoying her small horde of sweets and getting to know each other a bit better. Soon (or not soon enough in her books), they arrived at the station and they stepped off onto the platform with her nearly immediately getting bowled over by bigger taller students.
Luckily though, a loud voice came over them instructing first years to follow it so Viv used both her hands to hold onto her friends (she'd been instructed to leave her baby which she'd been hesitant to do) and go over to the adult who greeted them and explained he'd be the one to escort them to the castle. "How are we supposed to get all the way up there, do we walk?" Viv asked trying to look around as to how the others were getting there but unfortunately couldn't.

Lochi was so excited. After a long train ride, he was finally here! He'd been excited since he found out he was magical which, admittedly, was only a month ago. But still! It was super exciting! Once the train had stopped, he waited to let some of the other kids off, still doing his best to be nice so maybe he'd make a friend or two. He straightened his nice clothes, looking around the busy station. After a moment adrift in the crowd, Lochi was able to pick out someone calling for all the first years. Well, that was him! Moving swiftly, yet carefully, he made his way through the crowd and over to the man who seemed to be in charge. All around were kids about his age, all wearing black-and-white outfits, meaning he'd found the right place to be. Now that he knew who his classmates were, maybe he could befriend one... or a couple. Honestly, he'd be fine either way. It was just a bit scary to go at this all alone.

Irvine had listened to the prefect meeting about as much as he could. Which is to say, he listened for the names of the people in charge, the names of the rest of the prefects, and pretty much what he was assigned to. The rest of the speech he didn't pay attention to, mostly because his dad had taken one look at his prefect pin and decided that he'd give Irvine the rundown on what it was to be a prefect. Which, fair, he wasn't the expert. His dad had been, once upon a time, so he figured the standards still held.
Which is why he didn't think anyone was paying him any mind during the meeting. Sure, he'd figured that people probably noticed that he was just nodding along to what was being said, but he figured that since no one called him on it, it wasn't that big of a deal. Not that anyone on the train were really worried about the prefect that hadn't caused any problems. He certainly was going to be keeping an eye out for troublemakers. He just hadn't thought that people would be looking for him.
He hadn't quite gotten off the train when one of the older students approached him about the meeting. He vaguely recalled that he'd interviewed her last term for the school paper, but he hadn't thought that she'd pay him any mind after that. At best, he figured he faded into the background afterward. Instead, he blinked as she described it as brutal and that it was pretty much the same. He gave a half-hearted shrug at that and shoved his hands into his pockets. "It was basically the same speech my dad gave me when he found out I made prefect. I mostly tuned it out, to be honest."
He didn't figure he'd get into trouble for admitting that, but her next question caused him to blink. He didn't think anyone would want to sit with him. Not that he minded the lack of company, he kind of preferred it, but no one save for Ophelia had ever really been in mind for sharing a carriage. "I um, I guess? I would have thought everyone else would have friends to ride with." .

It honestly hadn't crossed her mind that the two hadn't actually known each other since they'd been in the same classes pretty much all year and well, she knew which means by point of osmosis, Cella kinda knew him. But maybe she should've made it more definite. In her defense, the exact moment she'd met him and learned his name she had zero doubts that he was a much needed member of their troupe. He had the muscle, the brains, the wit, and he had access to power tools, a total win! After the long ride and feast of sweets, they arrived at the station with Cella immediately demanding they head towards the carriages lest they be left with a subpar one. Ella merely rolled her eyes good-naturedly and it seemed her amusement was shared by Pietro as they tried to keep pace with her. "I mean, we are talking about the school who still thinks it's a grand idea that the staircases can just move whenever they feel like. And y'know, Peeves, so. Idunno. Maybe it's partly creepy castle aesthetic and partly what doesn't kill us gives us cool stories to tell." Ella explained with another shrug. Keagan MoranKeagan was relieved that the boy hadn’t been too hurt or startled by her little surprise slap.
”Rian!” she exclaimed, “You live here? That would be so cool!” she imagined how different her life would have been growing up so close to all the magic, instead of in her small Irish hometown where she and her parents were equally surprised to find out about her magical abilities.
”Yeah, conga was definitely what I was going for,” she laughed, shrugging her shoulders to hide her embarrassment at looking like she couldn't control her limbs. ”I’m Keagan,” she added, realizing she hadn’t given either of the boys her name yet. She reached out a hand to shake Sallie’s outstretched one. “Nice to meet you!”

Another summer over, and Aspen wasn't sure if she was happy about it. Sure, it meant a return to school, friends, and classes.... but it took away her freedom. She certainly couldn't convince her dad to let her into the forest during the school year, no matter how much she begged (or pointed out that Auntie Rosalia was an adult, even if she was irresponsible as hell). At least she would always have Laurel, plus they each had several friends. She sighed softly, walking up the street to the already busy station. Alright, so maybe they should've left a bit earlier. Oh well, they didn't miss anything. The eldest of the Hill girls was wearing her ever common frown, and she was pretty sure she had at least a couple leaves in her messy hair. There was also a soft screeching coming from her shirt pocket, but she was well used to the noise.
"Well. We made it. I'm already ready to vanish into the forest." She looked over at her twin, issuing a mischievous grin. Maybe, just maybe, they'd get the slip on their dad and could hide out in the forest, but honestly, even if she did, the only place she'd go is to the family hawthorn grove... and mom would tell dad, and she'd be in detention. Ugh. Why couldn't parents just keep secrets? If she wasn't gunning for prefect she wouldn't care, but she figured the title would help her job prospects. Either way, she still founded and singlehandedly ran a club, which had to be worth something.

As soon as the train stopped at Hogsmeade, Jess did her best to push off of it. The train was hot, crowded, and it always smelled vaguely like feet. But on the platform... it was still crowded, but at least the air was fresh and cool. Looking back to grab her friends, she realized they must have gotten separated in the crowd. Dang it! The redhead searched around people, trying to find the others. Maybe they were still on the train? They had to be around here somewhere, right? Now would be a really good time to be able to hear so she could call out for them. As it stood, she had to find them the old fashioned way. The girl thought she saw them, but upon getting closer, she was wrong. Damn it! Deciding it was best to let the group find her, Jess hurried out of the crowd to wait closer to the carriages. Hopefully they'd find her before she had to ride with people she didn't know...

Tally had decided this had all been a terrible, terrible idea even before Irvine opened his mouth. Okay, so he wasn't ignoring her right off the bat- that was a good sign, right? She smiled nervously when he mentioned his dad, although her heart could have cracked in two at his shrug- was she annoying him? Was he just being polite? Obviously! They barely knew each other! He probably didn't even remember her name! "Yeah, my parents were prefects too," she latched onto the only thing they had in common so far- "maybe they were all prefects at the same time?" Wait, no, what if his dad hadn't liked her parents? Dad had been kind of a troublemaker while at school, despite his prefect status, and her mum could be... a lot. "Er, I'm Tally," she added. "Tally Walsh- we- I mean- you interviewed me last year for that article?"
They'd literally just been in a meeting where everyone had to introduce themselves. Argh. She was messing this up so badly. Now he was just blinking at her, looking surprised. Great. How much more desperate could she seem? She might as well carry around a neon, blinking sign that said PLEASE SPARE ME ANY LEFTOVER ATTENTION. "I- ah- no, I totally have friends," she blurted out, "I just- I mean, it's fine if you're busy or- if you have other people you were going to ride up to the castle with," she turned tomato red, and resisted the urge to physically flee this interaction. No. She had to tough it out. Worst case scenario, he just thought she was a friendless loser. "I guess I was just thinking you might want the company?" she finished in a strangled question. "But I can uh- go if you'd rather just... do your own thing, I mean- nothing wrong with that, sometimes I get sick of being around people too..." Okay, it was really time to stop talking. Like, yesterday. Knocking 'till the walls cave in Stop the knife from goin' in Race your devil to the edge Find your freedom waiting there Yeah, waiting there

tTori blinked as Callie started talking about common rooms and hidden areas and houses. He nodded slowly at words. They weren't exactly an answer to his question, but still very helpful information. His parents hadn't been very helpful in regards to telling him anything about Hogwarts. Not that it was their fault, they hadn't gone to the school, and had almost not even wanted him to go to the school. "Wow secret rooms for the houses?" He asked. "That's pretty cool..." He trailed off realizing she'd said the dorms were split into boys and girls. He wasn't sure what that meant for him. Right now he felt very boyish... but only a few minutes earlier he'd been very girlish. Would the magic in the dorm room be able to tell him where to go? Would it matter. He frowned, and started tugging on the sleeve of his shirt out of anxiousness. "I... uh... yeah.... boy girl dormitories.... makes sense...." He muttered awkwardly.
He'd never been given the opportunity to tell anyone about his gender identity, so he wasn't sure how anyone would take it. He didn't particularly want to lose his new friends so soon... but maybe people at the school were more accepting than his family would be if they knew. Thankfully Austen saved him from anymore awkwardness. He nodded at the question. "Yeah. My parents were always in the same classroom when they went to school in Japan, and the teachers all came and went. And that's how it's been with all my tutors at home.... but I dunno how English schools work." He continued to nod as Austen explained how the castle worked. He gulped at the idea of having to traverse such a huge place and find all his classrooms on time. He was sure to get lost.
"The stairs move?!?"He exclaimed, his mouth hanging open. Well now he was definitely going to get lost. "Oh geeze, I'm going to get lost on my first day and no one will ever see me again," he muttered dramatically. At least the thought of a giant castle and moving stairs had distracted him from his own anxiety over dormitories. That was useful. "Do they at least give us a map or something?"

Cella sniffed audibly. "Wouldn't surprise me. They haven't updated the interior decoration since the Middle Ages; they've probably been using the same carriages since the 1800s!" Cella found history interesting, to an extent, but that didn't mean she enjoyed living in it. Would it kill them to install some electric lights and get to work on the internet broadband? She loved being a witch but it was still more than a little frustrating to constantly be living in the past, even if her mum saw nothing wrong with living a tech-free life. She was a pureblood, of course she didn't! At least Dad saw where she was coming from.
"Exactly," she nodded in approval of Ella's point. "Why don't they just install lifts? it's not as if the stairs make us any more efficient. And to think Rowena Ravenclaw designed them," she rolled her eyes. "There's not even a 'solution' to them besides being patient!" Her tone made it clear she did not consider 'patience' to be a virtue. At the mention of Peeves she visibly scowled. "Don't even get me started on that evil little jester." Honestly, Cella would rather spend time with the Bloody Baron than the deranged poltergeist. "It makes me want to go into ghost-hunting just to get rid of him." As much as she was happy to be getting back into the routine of school, there was plenty she wasn't looking forward to. Sharing a dorm room. The ghosts. The noisy owl deliveries every morning. Everybody would recycle, fewer cars, and more bicycles No more fighting for survival, you would hear this song on vinyl You'd see a doctor if you're sick, Mary, don't you worry 'bout it 'Cause there'd be no crazy bill, no more thousand dollar pills And age would be a source of pride; you've got beautiful laugh lines

Prefect meetings were, in her opinion, an unnecessary evil considering everything that was told to them could literally be put into the letter that gave them their pins. And then they actually had to patrol the cars? It was too much and she other and better stuff to do. So when she noticed that Auggie had the other head pin she had very politely (she'd smiled said please and everything) suggested they make the meeting as to the point as they possibly could before separating for their patrols. If she also happened to mention that she could possibly go into withdrawal if having to sit through another hours long meeting then that was her business.
It seemed to have worked though; he checked off all the bullet points made sure to answer any important questions and they were out in barely half an hour. If that was literally all it took, she was going to be writing a letter to the past two head people asking for her time back. Still though, she'd been able to accomplish her plan and reap the benefits; namely enjoy a good chunk of the train ride with Bethany and Brennie. Arriving at the platform Lia felt a small prickle of sadness that this would be pretty much her last time doing this, but mostly the sadness was overwhelmed by glee that this would be the last time she'd have to do this. She'd miss Hogwarts...somewhat, but she was more than ready to get out into the real world. "Alright, wanna start heading for the carriages before another pipsqueak steps on my toes?" she asked her companions shifting to the side as yet another student came barreling through. And if she tripped someone she would get in trouble when really it'd just be coincidence. A happy one, but one nonetheless.

This little bit of stardust Keeps waking me up All in my head Tongue tied in knots Keeps shutting me up R I A N C A S E Y M C L E L L A N PUREBLOOD │ UNSORTED │ FIRST YEAR
Rian wasn't surprised when the boy with the glasses said he was from Edinburgh, given his accent. That said, Hogsmeade must really seem like the sticks in comparison. Rian had been to several cities in his eleven years, but hadn't particularly enjoyed any of them, mostly because he hated the crowds and noise. Much like this crowd and level of noise. At least it explained why he spoke so fast. The boy introduced himself as Sallie, the girl as Keagan. Rian hadn't actually anticipated having to speak to anyone until after the Sorting, but here he was. He somewhat awkwardly shook Sallie's outstretched hand. His first handshake.
"It's okay," he said in reply to the comments about living in Hogsmeade. "There's not many other kids but it's really quiet and there's no cars or traffic, so I like it. My mum runs the music shop," he jerked his head uphill in the vague direction of Dominic Maestro's, "and we live in the flat above it. My parents and my brother and me. He's a Hufflepuff," he added belatedly. "My brother Angus. A third year." He wondered if either of them had older siblings here, but they both seemed like they didn't know much about Hogwarts or Hogsmeade, so probably not. Rian felt a little strange; he wasn't used to being a source of info for others.
"But there's no technology here," he added, wondering if they needed to be warned. "Our flat has a telephone but that's it. Nothing really works in the castle except the radio." Rian didn't care; he'd only seen TV a few times, and went to the movies with his cousin Cella once or twice over the summer holidays, usually. The lack of internet didn't bother him at all, but then again, maybe it would if he'd grown up with it. "It's because the magic interferes with it," he explained with a shrug. At least talking to them was distracting him from the upcoming boat ride. Just let me out, I wanna run This little bit of stardust Keeps waking me up All in my head Mastered that much

Leave my door open just a crack. 'Cause I feel like such an insomniac Why do I tire of counting sheep when I'm far too tired to fall asleep? To ten million fireflies, I'm weird cause I hate goodbyes I got misty eyes as they said farewell
Calliope listened to Austen as he quickly explained something entirely different. Oh. So she was wrong. Oh well, she was learning. Besides, she could always blame her lack of formal education for why she didn't know much about classrooms or.... anything else about school. Austen also explained how the staircases moved, which prompted confused and nervous responses from Tori. Of course, that one was to be expected, as Callie was fairly certain she'd never seen stairs move before. She had, however, seen stairs that secretly had drawers, which was kinda neat.
Tori asked about a map, and Callie was wondering something similar. Oh well. The teachers would probably be understanding. "At least if we get lost, we can always find our way. There's lots of other people, and surely someone can be our guiding light~" The blonde hummed softly, her mind thinking of other times she'd been lost before. Maybe it'd be nicer to get lost with friends, rather than alone. And she'd be more contained within the castle, instead of out on the streets in the dark. Maybe she shouldn't mention that one, though....

Brennie was grateful for Auggie and Lia, who powered through perhaps the fastest Prefect meeting of all time. It was still super boring, but hey, that was to be expected. Luckily, upon its conclusion, Brennie, Lia, and Bethany were able to actually hang out for a bit. Brennie shared the snacks he and his dad had made for the ever-long train ride, hoping to tide them all over until dinner. Once the train stopped, Brennie straightened his tie and slipped on his robes, following the girls onto the platform. Lia asked about them going over to the carriages, apparently prompted by all the kids wandering around. "Sure thing! It's not gotten any less crazy around here." He carefully avoided bumping into someone else who couldn't be bothered to avoid him, which prompted a rather mean looking frown from Brennie. How were people so dang inconsiderate!?
