Brianna Cathaline Quinn-Smith Slytherin │ Fifth Year │ Fifteen Years Old │ Single │ Slytherin Prefect │ Dueling Club Captain │ Quidditch Vice-Captain
Brianna made a point of being up earlier than usual today, and getting ready for today’s game. She felt the need to be down at the pitch when Karah was there, if not a bit before. The Fifth Year was still feeling the need to prove she belonged in the VC position, and that she was capable of taking over if that was offered to her. If that meant working just a little bit harder, than that was fine by her. More to the point, though, she had other things to do as well, not the least of which was going over things with Csuri, and providing the rest of the team the morale boost they were going to need as they went into this match against the Eagles.
It was more than a sportscasterism to suggest today was a ‘must win’ for both teams, as neither squad had anything to show for their efforts thus far in the season, and whichever of them lost would see their season end for all intents and purposes today. Despite all that, Brianna saw glimmers of hope. Kasamir got a save in the last match, preventing Csuri from being hit by a Bludger. As for her Seeker protégé, well… she was in there fighting for the Snitch alongside of Nora. Csuri gave as good as she got, and that was an encouraging sign. Csuri even suggested they work harder on Seeker practice, and Brianna rose to the challenge. This team had potential, it just needed s few breaks to go their way.
Unfortunately, the weather offered them a mixed bag. Leaden skies and sheets of mist and drizzle, and a damp cold which was enough to make fifteen-year-old Chaser’s bones ache as though she were triple that age, especially in those places where they’d been broken and magically healed, though she wasn’t sure how much of that was real or imagined. To combat the effects of the damp and chill, she’d cast water-repelling and warming Charms upon her clothes, and she had her usual pre-game brew in her steel mug, with enough caffeine to enervate an Inferi. One thing she added to her uniform for today's match was a black armband, and a strip of black gaffer's tape across the Slytherin crest on her chest, as a police officer would do over their badge, in honour of Aedan MacInnes, whom she learned died in some ghastly roadside incident over the holidays. While he'd left the team over the whole dodgy business with Erikk, was persona non grata so far as her Captain was concerned, however, danggit, he was one of 'us', had flown with the team for three years; but, most important, though, he was Slytherin.
Arriving on the pitch, she saw there was a veritable flock of Eagles already present, she was hoping not to see any ravens flying about, although she did see one friendly face on the pitch. “All right, Csuri. I have confidence in you,” she told her friend, as she came over and started her own pre-game stretches. “You made Nora have to earn that win last match, you can contest with every other Seeker in school too.”

Kasamir Aloysius Patrovna Slytherin │ First Year │ Eleven Years Old │ Single │ Beater
Kasamir was yawning loudly as he walked along towards the pitch for today’s match against Ravenclaw, his school-issue broomstick slung over one shoulder. It was his own fault, he knew, that he was a little bit sleepy, but then he’d been having fun working out chess problems from The Times until it got late. He had his customary pre-game high-protein breakfast this morning, as though he was going to be in his old school’s hockey game, rather than flying on a broomstick, which should have helped him wake up, but that didn’t help.
The weather for the game barely registered in the young Russian’s mind. This was a balmy spring day in Arkhangelsk, he wasn’t sure what his classmates were complaining about; he’d played bandy in weather worse than this. Even the recent death of Aedan MacInnes barely was a blip on his radar; he couldn't say he knew the upperclassman and would have been lucky to pick him out among all the other students. The older student was a bit younger than his older sister when she died, so he supposed it was a tragedy. What he knew was death was arbitrary, it claimed one on its terms and nobody else's. Death smiles on everyone, all one can do is smile back.
What bothered him was how there were only three games for each team to play, spread out over the course of the school year. The Snakes had gotten off to a bit of a slow start for this year’s campaign, and now they were already in danger of being eliminated from having a shot at the Quidditch Cup, and, by extension, the House Cup. And, as they were so close on players, if there was even one illness, one healthy scratch, then they might have to forfeit the match, and seal their fate. Really?
The black-haired First Year arrived, and saw that their Seeker and their Vice Captain were already there, along with a healthy plurality of their opposition. Kasamir wasn’t sure if this was a good sign or not, and he gave them a nod of respect. After staking out a bit of space, he started going through his pre-game warmup routine, as he worked to get into the mindset to do his job.

Linsey Grey-Cavendish Ravenclaw │ Fifth Year │ Fifteen Years Old │ Fifth Year │ Beater │ Quidditch Vice-Captain │ Ravenclaw Prefect
It was a supreme act of will that got Linsey out of the castle and down to the pitch for today’s game against Slytherin. She knew something was up when she sensed the change in the weather, and she did what she could to be ready for the effects it would have on her. The Fifth Year took care to cast a Daylight Charm to help her mood, along with the herbal supplements Milan suggested she try, but she still felt as though she were trudging along with chains binding her limbs, her head in a thick fog worthy of those early morning ‘peasoupers’, her sinuses throbbed in time to the beat of her heart, while a dull ache had set itself up behind her eyes. Linsey was beginning to wonder if this was an attack of ‘the Grays’ again, or the harbinger of a nasty bout of flu.
Adding to it, was finding out Aeden MacInnes was gone. He’d died over the Christmas holiday, killed in some horrible roadside accident. Not seeing him at Art Club was as though a hole were cut out of her life, and she resolved she would do whatever she could for Tam. It seemed to her as though a long shadow had been cast over events here, and a Quidditch match was such a trivial affair, it didn’t matter if it took place or if she was even there. Except it did matter, and she needed to be there, even if all she felt like doing was curling up with Blannat and hiding out in her dorm for the rest of the day. There was also the knowledge Milan would be there, and it wouldn’t do for him to have made the journey here and her not to bother getting out of bed.
Venturing outside, Linsey found game-time conditions exactly mirrored her mood: a cloud deck thick as stew, with mist and drizzle setting up a cold and clammy sensation which went straight to one’s bones. The Fifth Year had cast charms upon her uniform to keep out the worst of the cold and the damp, though it still didn’t feel as though it were enough. Arriving at the pitch, she saw there was quite the gathering of Eagles already present. ‘Smooth move, Vice-Captain,’ she told herself acidically. ‘Half the team got here before I did. What would Milan say? He would have been down here two hours before the match, warming up and practicing, already on his A-game and ready to lead us to victory. I need to do better.’
Deciding her team didn’t need to see or sense her mood, Linsey drew a deep breath, put on her winningest smile, and went around to check on her teammates, offering words of encouragement, and letting them know how much she believed in all of them. Though their season was on the line, basically win or it was over, and Linsey was acting as though victory was assured, and that all they needed to do was follow the plan through, just like Milan would. She finished up beside her partner, Yarrick, started going through her pre-game rituals of stretches and exercises. “How rya holdin’ up, Yarrick?”

xx⥈ Wʜᴇʀᴇ Aᴍ I? Quidditch Pitch xxx⥈ Wʜᴏ Is Wɪᴛʜ Mᴇ? Practically the whole school! xxxx⥈ Wʜᴀᴛ's Gᴏɪɴɢ Oɴ? Slytherin v Ravenclaw Game xxxxx⥈ Wʜᴀᴛ's Iɴsɪᴅᴇ Mʏ Hᴇᴀᴅ? It's such a grey day
Today was going to be a rough game. Not just for the bleak and bleary weather overhead, but for the emotional shifts across the whole school. They had lost a lovely young student, and now it was his former team stepping up to play. As much as Xiang wished she could change the schedules around, the march of timing moved on. Watching the kids walk onto the pitch in varying stages of upset, including one of their announcers trudging through a state of depression, Xiang let out a small sigh. She gave two whistles, then gestured everyone to the sky.
"Good morning, everyone. Today is going to be a great match, even through the drizzles. We're all going to work hard and play hard. As always, no cheating, no magic, and no touching the ground. I know emotions are running wild today, but let's try to have a good time. Captains ready?" Once she got the clear, Xiang released the bludgers, then the snitch. With the quaffle in hand, she spoke once more. "Chasers ready, 3-2-1..." She tossed up the quaffle and backed up, preparing for an interesting match.
