Devin Cloud First Year- Hufflepuff "We need not look into the future, because today is what we should be worrying about" Age:11 Height: 4'10" Weight: 100 lbs Birthday: 30 April
Devin had saw the ball with quite ease and jumped it's path. He threw the Quaffle back to the girl, knowing she didn't try. He honestly wanted her to try her hardest. It would be better for both of them. He looked at her after he threw the Quaffle back.
"Come on, we both know you're better than that. Try your hardest," he said, trying to entice her into trying harder. She was decent as far as he knew, but he had yet to see anything from her. He wanted her to shoot once again, for he wanted to assess her skill. He really hope she didn't try 'smoke and mirror' shots, which were just little trick shots. It would be quite easy for him to stop.
"It feels great to be in between the posts again," he said to himself, remembering his first time on a broom. Even though he was a first year, he had much experience on the broom he was riding. He looked at the old broom he was on, remembering everything his brother Josh told him.
"Remember, stay aware of your surroundings. Never take your eye off the ball, and mentally slow it down. It comes easier with practice," he recalled his brother Josh saying to him a few years back. He now was ready, his hands rest upon the wooden magnificence he called a broom, prepared to stop another shot

Charlotte watched intently as Devin blocked Jane's half-hearted shot. She payed extra attention to the way he blocked, assessing every movement. He threw the quaffle back, and Charlotte intercepted it with grace. As Devin was giving the girl a bit of constructive criticism, Charlotte spotted her opportunity. Devin was good, no doubt, and could probably stop even a perfectly aimed shot, but while he was distracted? Charlotte could only guess. Wasting no time, she swerved down and to the side, out of Devin's field of view. His body was still in the way of two of the posts, but the third was clear. Though she knew he would notice the instant she moved, she prayed he would be too late. Quaffle in her right hand, which was unusual for her since she was left-handed, she moved her arm back just enough to exert a reasonable force on the ball, then tensed and threw her arm forward as hard as she could while also maintaining precision. Not only did she have to throw hard, but she also needed to aim correctly, and that's what she did. Now, it was a matter of Devin's reflexes and skill, and she was no longer in control. The best she could do was watch the quaffle continuing away from her as if in slow motion and cross her fingers and hope it would pass through the hoop safe and sound. It was almost there... about three feet... two... fifteen inches...

Devin made it just in time to misdirect the Quaffle away from the goals. It had sailed just right of the right goal. He let out a brief sigh, not knowing what had happened. He looked up at the smiling girl.
"Think you're slick, don't you? I got lucky this time," he asked her jokingly, winking at her. She was cute to him, so he should be nice to her though. He looked at her once again.
"It was a great shot though. I just caught a glimpse of it at the last second," he said, floating next to her. He was surprised he got it, and quite honestly, in disbelief. He had not been paying attention though, so he needed to focus a bit more. He caught himself staring into her eyes after a brief second. He decided to talk again.
"Your name is Kat right. Well, you seem like your pretty good," he said, complimenting her skill. Even though she took it while he wasn't looking, the shot had great speed on it. It actually caught him off guard.
"You can try again if you want," he said, fetching the Quaffle from the ground, and giving it to her. Once again, he caught himself staring. He looked away for a brief second.

Charlotte cursed under her breath as Devin whacked the ball out of scoring position. She then regretted her words, as she didn't like to curse. She'd been raised strictly by her mother, and loved her enough to follow her rules. Still, Devin's interception of the ball unnerved her.
Devin, though, wasn't a bad winner. He retrieved the ball and even complimented Charlotte. She was glad of it, because she hated when people bragged their victory. "Thank you," she smiled at him. Her eyes curiously pried at him when she realized he had been staring a bit. She wondered what his motive was, but shrugged it off. After all, she couldn't let anything distract her from the task at hand. She took the Quaffle from him and aligned herself with the goalposts, giving Devin the time to do the same. She now realized that cheap tricks wouldn't work. In order to score against him, one needed to be very, very strategic. Charlotte's mind went to work, assessing all possible ways to shoot. An idea entered her mind, but she wasn't sure if it would work. All her instinct went against it, but she wondered if that would be an advantage. He probably wouldn't expect it.
Charlotte remembered reading quidditch books. They were always saying to take the upper ground, so to speak, and shoot at a greater altitude than the keeper. But they had never said anything about shooting from below. And that's when Charlotte took her chance. Without hesitation, she ducked and did a 90 degree nosedive. She dove for about ten feet, then pulled up hard on the broom's handle. Now, she was directly underneath Devin's feet, with a tiny bit of room at the bottom of the center hoop. This time with her good hand, she tossed the ball underhand, attempting to make it through the bit of empty space. It sailed toward the opening, and once again Charlotte watched it fly away from her...

Devin Cloud First Year- Hufflepuff "We need not look into the future, because today is what we should be worrying about" Age:11 Height: 4'10" Weight: 100 lbs Birthday: 30 April
Devin reached down quickly and caught the ball in his one hand. He knew what she tried to do, and it honestly was a great idea. He never thought of submarining like that. The only reason she missed was because her shot was a little too far right. Just enough for him to get his hand on it.
"That was honestly a great idea for a shot. I never though about doing that before, and it could work. The only thing you need to do is put it a little farther left," he admitted to her. She knew her stuff, and he knew that she was trying her hardest to concoct a way to score.
"Listen, you've got to trust your arm more. I mean, you are trying to come up with strategical shots, and all you need to do is shoot. Sure, you can add some style to it, because you can use it to misdirect the keeper, but you can do a lot more with angled approaches, and different forms to shoot. You can create more torque, causing your shot to be faster," he pointed out. He may not be the best at magic tricks, but he knew his stuff about Quidditch. She was good, and he knew it. She showed great potential.
"You show a lot of potential, and you definitely have a mind for this. That shot you just took is arguably the hardest shot you can take in the shooters circle, and you almost made it,"he pointed out.

This time, Charlotte's confidence was reduced to almost nothing. It was all she could do not to land and run off the pitch. Still, she knew that wouldn't help her at all. Retrieving the Quaffle, she listened to Devin's criticism. She nodded, after all, he was correct. Still, she felt odd being lectured by a first year.
"One more time," she told him authoritatively. She realigned herself with the posts and steadied her breathing. Third time's the charm, she told herself, not quite believing it. Still, she thought about what he had said. He was quite wise for his age, and Charlotte had to admit he was an excellent keeper. Just as he had said, she decided to just take a shot with only a touch of strategy. She took the ball in her right hand, and began forward. When she was in scoring distance, she kept her eyes left and began to pull her arm back as if she were going to shoot left, but at last minute, she turned and hacked the ball with full force at the right post. She threw with perfect precision, and for the third time she prayed it would suffice.

Charlotte forced a lopsided smile at the boy. He was being very nice to her, and she was comforted a little. Still, she was getting quite upset. Her Firebolt was a great broom, and the conditions were perfect. So why couldn't she score? It was all reflecting back on her, and she thought she must be doing something wrong. "Thanks, you're really good too. Maybe we can talk more about Quidditch sometime. I'd like to hear some of your advice. You're quite smart." She sighed, and just because she had the Quaffle, she tossed it halfheartedly at the now open goalposts. Maybe Devin would see it. Maybe he wouldn't. It didn't matter to Charlotte now, as she was getting weary. Still, it gave her something to do.
