Jasper was happy to be back in history. He couldn't say the same for Alice who looked dismal as ever. "Don't look so down Alice." he told her as they walked into class. "But it's history I can't stand it..." she said with a sigh as they took a seat next to Lexine. "Morning Lexine." Alice said as she pulled out her stuff for class. "Morning,"
Sadly there was no changing Alice's mind on history. Once class got underway it seemed to be normal review. Jasper raised his hand after Lexine spoke. "We learned about Newt Scamander the author of the book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." he said proud of himself. Alice for once remained silent not knowing what to say on any of it. She really didn't like history granted having a nice professor helped make the class bearable.
Valentina Melody La Russa Fourteen Years Old/ Fourth Year Gryffindor
As Valentina walked into History of Magic for the first lesson the the year she had a good feeling that her attendance is going to be even better than the last few years. even though she knew this was the class she missed the most and won't be surprised if she had to learn everything from the other years she showed up for. Valentina took a seat towards the middle and fixed up her bow in her hair. She settled on a seat that would be easier for her to fall asleep during class. "Hi Jasper, Alice and Lexine." she spotted them sitting together. "This there much point of this class? I haven't showed up for this class in the last 3 years so why should I even bother now. It's not like we need History of Magic after we graduate Hogwarts anyway. Why not make it an elective rather than a must have." Valentina said as she decided this class wasn't worth her time decided once the professor responded to her she was out of this class.
Grayson walked into the classroom, ready for another day of class to start. Taking a piece of chalk, he quickly wrote on the board. He then turned to face the class.
Professor Powell
Ancient Egypt and Greece
"Today, we're going to be examining the ancient cultures of Greece and Egypt, and how they used magic. Specifically, we're going to be focusing on several points in ancient history to really get a feel for how they must have interacted with not only the world, but also with Muggles.
"In truth, ancient wizards and witches worked together with muggles, and muggles didn't fear them. Wizards were held in high esteem in that time period, and evidence can be found throughout the ancient world of interaction between the two groups. This particular piece,"he said, gesturing to the stone tablet that was displayed,"is actually a replica of another tablet that had to be removed from a dig site, as it clearly demonstrated several instances of real magic being performed, such as the curse that was placed on the tomb that this tablet came from.
"There were several notable wizards and witches during this time. Circe was a Greek witch that specialized in transfiguration, and was well-known both in the wizarding world as well as in the muggle community for turning sailors into pigs. There was another named Andros the Invincible, who was well-known for producing a patronus the size of a giant, for which he gained his title. There was also Mopsus, who was a Seer and defeated his rival in a competition of their powers.
"Most wizards and witches worked with muggles on numerous occasions. In Egypt, you can see the evidence for it in the tombs of rulers, as evidence of skeletons warped by magic have survived. These individuals probably ran across the curses ancient wizards placed to protect such sights from graverobbers."
Grayson looked around the room, studying each student before continuing."Please feel free to ask any questions, or to make any comments. While I know that everyone here might not be interested, at least some of you might be."

Lexine walked into class and saw on the board something she was a little less interested in: Ancient Egypt and Greece. She sat down and readied her parchment and quill, knowing she was going to take notes, even though she wasn't really that excited. As Professor Powell started, Lexine quickly jotted down notes on as much as possible. When the lesson Lexine was quiet, making little drawings in the margins of her parchment.
Grayson walked into the classroom with a bit of a hop in his step. He was definitely getting used to teaching, and save for the occasional hiccup, the job was going fairly well. He picked up a piece of chalk and quickly wrote the topic of the day on the board before turning to look at the rest of the class.
Professor Powell
Herpo the Foul
"Hello class. Today we're going to be talking about Herpo the Foul. A most interesting fellow, I'm sure, especially since there's not much on him besides his accomplishments, which leads to speculation as to what else he may have done in his lifetime."
"Herpo the Foul was an Ancient Greek Dark Wizard. He is one of the earliest known Dark Wizards and his work is still a lasting aspect of dark magic to date. He is best known as the first wizard to hatch a Basilisk. He is reputed to have invented many vile curses and was also the first wizard known to successfully create a Horcrux, perhaps having designed the ritual himself. Accordingly, he must have committed murder to split his soul. He is one of the earliest known Parselmouths.
"Now know that's not much to go on about him, but it is interesting to note that as one of the earliest known Dark Wizards, he has attributes today can be reflected as pertaining to dark magic. His abilities as a parselmouth is a good example, as well as the fact he is the originator of the basilisk. Both are traits that seem to be common with Dark Wizards and Witches today. If this conjecture were to hold true, that would suggest that all Parselmouths would be involved in the Dark Arts, which isn't necessarily true. If there are any questions, please feel free to ask, though in this case, there is one that I will not answer, since even I don't know the answer to that."

Lexine sat in the back of the classroom this time around, not really taking any notes. She really didn't want to do anything today, but that didn't mean that she wasn't going to at least jot down a thing or two. She stayed quiet, not really knowing what all to ask, after all she didn't really have anything to contribute.

Valentina decided she might as well go to class to spend the time sleeping because there was no way in hell she was going to pass this class in OWLs next year. She settled in a spot in the back corner of class.
"The best way to keep something bad from happening is to see it ahead of time..."
Iñigo walked into the History class, sitting next to Lexine, who didn't seem like she was in the best of moods; so he really just said 'hey' and took a seat. And as the professor had started, he just sat there for a little bit, not really saying a word. He had nothing to add; so really, he just sat there...speechless, okay with not talking at all. He did occasionally look over at Lexine, but she seemed to be in a zone...whether it was a good zone or bad...he didn't know, but he figured he would not bother her.
"and you can't see it if you refuse to face the possibility."
Grayson, unlike last year, was actually prepared to lecture when the students entered the classroom. He was seated behind his desk, but as people filed in, he stood and walked in front of it to stand before them all. He waited until the last of the students found their seats before speaking.
"Hello class, and welcome back to History of Magic. Today, I figured we could review what was learned in the last class as a refresher for those that may need it. After all, an entire summer has passed, which means you might have had time to forget some of what you may have learned. Please answer one at a time and cover one topic each. That way, hopefully everyone will get a chance to answer and participate."

'Last year, I was so crushing on him,' thought Dani of her History of Magic teacher. 'Should have figured out quicker a man that cute was completely unobtainable, and dating my Head of House, of all people. Probably as well that didn't pan out; would have been a right wicked googly by no error. At least he knows I'm alive, though, and I won't have to get used to a whole new history teacher.' While she was fond of her teacher still, she wasn't planning to throw herself at him. 'Besides, I'll see Eli at lunch.' She smiled and gave Professor Powell a small wave, as she walked into class.
When Professor Powell asked for volunteers, Dani raised her hand, and said, "We learned about Nicholas Flamel, Professor. He used to be former Headmaster Dumbledore's partner, and created the only Philosopher's Stone known to have existed."
Axel sauntered into class a bit earlier than usual, and was half surprised to see the professor wasn't buried behind a book, like usual. He took a seat in the third row, dropped his ruck sack on the desk and decided he'd unload his belongings further into the lesson. There was never any telling if a professor would just review, sometimes, they dived right into a new lesson afterwards. He was hoping for a lazy day, to be honest. He didn't have much interest in the class or any of its lessons, it never caught his interest. It was funny to see his classmates argue though, and this was the class it usually happened in, which was the only reason why he hadn't skipped it in the first place. When it was time for class participation, he shrunk away and glanced over at Dani as she spoke up, hoping not to draw any extra attention to himself in the process.

A flighty smile washed over her features as she eyed the History of Magic professor, oh, she'd heard all about the rumors between him and the Mythology professor, Harlowe. She'd even walked past his office once to spot the blonde professor knocking on his door to join him. It was kind of cute, actually. But weird. Definitely weird. Professor's weren't supposed to have lives outside of school, they were supposed to just... wait, or something. That's weird though, who thinks like that? Camila had to shake her head to chase the thoughts away and forced herself to pick apart her memories and recall one of the instances she might have paid attention instead of sneaking snacks or reading a magazine behind her textbook. ”One of the topics were the Deathly Hallows, the Perenelle, Perevell-- those three brothers-- had the three hallows, which were created by death. First is the elder wand, then the resurrection stone, and finally the invisibility cloak.” She couldn't really remember much more than that, none of the details at least. She recalled the gist of it, anyway.

Ariana walked into the one class she dreaded the most: History of Magic. Ariana did a pretty poor job remembering facts, so it wasn't a surprise to her that it was one of her worst classes, however she was kind of embarrassed about it. As soon as Professor Powell asked them to recall what they'd done the previous year, as he did every year, Ariana slouched down in her seat next to Danica.
Just thought I'd point out that Professor Powell isn't the Gryffindor Head of House, as well as the fact that he was a Ravenclaw. Unless I misread that, of course, then disregard this, of course.
