Oh, how easy it is to wipe away an unwanted mark,
leaves only a smudge or nothing if you're lucky.
If only it were that simple,
that life was like an essay.
One that you could fix,
rewrite,
cross out,
change.
IF ONLY..
but life doesn't work that way.
Hell,
that's not what life was designed to do.
You can not take back,
what you said,
whatever you might or might not ever do.
You can not change how you feel,
you can not forget the pain.
That person you loved so much,
in your heart is nothing but a stain.
Erasers are good at fixing mistakes,
but the can not change the past.
They can not do undo what has been done,
they can not make you UNLOVE someone.
The pain will never go away,
forever it will remain.
It will ease and the pain will become a lighter burden to bear,
but the feeling inside..
Knowing that you loved someone,
remembering how close you were.
THAT will never change,
no matter how much time goes by.
I wish I could say I was strong,
I wish I could say I didn't cry.
Late into the night I recall what was,
and everything that could ever be.
But looking back I can see,
that maybe,
just perhaps,
you were never really the best for me.
I can not change what I feel,
all the pain one goes through,
it's quite real.
What we had will never be the same,
and I will still think fondly of you when the wind whispers your name.
