Probably because I grew up this way
When she was about 5 years old, Princess Aurora became Queen Aurora. The reason being, her father, the King at the time, road off into a battle from which he would never return. All that was left of him was his crown, which she now wears, and never takes off.
The death of her father deeply depressed the normally fun loving, easy going, Queen. So much this hurt her, that she became hostile to change. She still keeps the throne room the same way her father did. As a matter of fact, she keeps the castle the same way her father did. If anyone dares to change it, she'll probably have them thrown in the dungeons for a very long time.
She tightens her fist on existing laws. No criminal gets away with murder, or any other penal offenses. Her sense of compassion is limited to a very rare few. Every visiting royal and on occasion, even the people in her own castle that she doesn't like, get pelted with allegations of suspicion of her father's death. And if you haven't guessed by now, she trusts very few. She'll pace around people until they break if she's suspicious of them. Her goal is to find out who killed her father.
However she does have a nicer side. She helps the poor, the homeless, and the church often by giving them big donations. She likes to laugh and do the things that happy people do, when she is not sad, pissed or angry. Even though she has a lot of emotional baggage, she can still be happy, when she wants to be.
