Shining Star: Runaways- chapter 1
As the others flew after her, Emma was lighting down in a cave hidden from the roving eye. She knew no one would listen to her note, they would come after her no matter what, but she couldn’t put her family in danger.
Lightly, she set her bag on a rock and dragged out a blanket and pillow; she had stripped her bed and put the sheets in her bag so she wouldn’t be too cold. She lay out her make-shift bed and walked outside without her shoes. She hated to feel out of touch with the things around her, so she wore no shoes or socks, so she could feel the earth under her.
The sky was dotted with so many stars, she could barely see the sky.
“I wish our sky at home looked like this…” she murmured.
A young brown cat came padding out of the cave, stretching. “You know, you could have left a little more info about why you were leaving…”
“Falcon, you know I couldn’t tell them about how I remembered that I summoned my older self! I may not remember what happened, but I do know something happened to Galvin… He still doesn’t look at me the same way…”
“Of course he doesn’t! He loves you! And you know that…” Falcon said, rubbing up against his mistresses leg, purring loudly.
Emma bent down and picked up her friend, petting his silky fur. “I know, but I still don’t know how I feel about him. There’s a nine year difference between us! Anyways, I could never forget Valen…” she murmured, mentioning her friend who had been killed just that year.
“No one expects you to forget about Valen, but they do expect you to accept the fact that he’s gone. His sister and mother have moved on, I think it’s only you who can’t accept it…” Falcon told her softly.
That made her smile quietly. “I know, but I loved him with all my heart… But now that I know where I have to go, I really should accept that he’s dead. I need to find those other kids… And their in these mountains somewhere! I just know it!”
“And how do you know that?”
Emma smiled evily. “I heard Sari and Zero talking about it in the kitchen. After six year of stealing for a living, you’d be amazed at how quiet you can be when you want to!”
Falcon sighed. “And here I was thinking I taught you better…” he muttered.
Emma smiled. “You know how much I love to spy! It’s in my blood!” She said, referring to her uncle, the spymaster of her home city. “But we had better turn in for the night… We don’t want the others to see us out here…” she murmured.
Falcon followed Emma into the cave, and curled up around her and she pulled the blanket over her. Falcon purred softly as they both drifted off to sleep.

Emma stood outside a large hut. She recognized it from some where, she just couldn’t put her finger on it… She knew this was a dream, but it was so beautiful there she didn’t ever want to leave it.
Two young girls walked out of the hut, their blonde and brown hair tied back. They laughed and walked past Emma as if she weren’t even there.
“To meet your destiny, you must forget those who follow you,” a voice murmured. Emma spun to see an older version of herself standing before her. “They have already interfered too much with what is to happen! If this world is to survive, Emma, you must forget your past!”
Emma struggled to remember Galvin’s face, Sari’s hugs, Zero’s easy laugh. “No! No, I won’t forget! They’re my friends, my family! You can’t take my memories of them away!” She cried.
Tears streamed down her cheeks as her memories of her friends faded and then vanished. The only one she remembered was Falcon, how he was her mentor. She felt a pounding in her chest, as if her heart had been broken. But she didn’t know anyone who she loved that much!
“Why? Why? Why?” She repeated over and over. She fell to her knees, trying to remember what she knew she had forgotten.
“Come to us, Emma. We are your destiny. We are what you are…” Her older self murmured. Emma nodded, tears still streaming down her cheeks. She would go to the mountains and find this hut if it was the last thing she would do!

Emma slowly opened her eyes to Falcon nudging her head. “Falcon!” she muttered. “I was having a good dream!”
“Maybe, but you need to wake up! We have to get going before the others catch up!” Falcon said.
Emma rubbed her eyes. “What others? We came on our own, remember?”
“What are you talking about? Galvin, Sari, Zero, Key, As, Lucy, their trying to find us, remember?” Falcon told her sternly.
“Should I know them?” Emma asked, standing up.
“You mean you don’t remember them?”
“Remember who? I told you, no ones following us!”
“Oh no, Galvin’s not going to like this. You already forgot part of your past, now you don’t even remember him! This is not good, not good, not good!”
“Remember who? What are you talking about, Falcon?” Emma demanded.
Falcon sighed. “I guess you must have lost your memory, although it seems to have been selective… You certainly seem to remember me… I guess we’ll just have to keep going, anyways.”
Emma nodded. “Then let’s get going!” she laughed. Falcon jumped into his pouch on Emma’s pack. She slung it over her shoulders and her wings and walked outside the cave. She smiled when the cool breeze swept her hair into curls. She spread her wings and jumped into the cloudless sky.
Falcon shrank into his pouch, the wind buffeting his red fur. Emma smiled. “Scaredy cat!” she laughed.
Falcon frowned and closed the pouch top, muttering something about her being nuts.
Emma giggled as she soared into the great blue sky. If she could, she would fly forever, only stopping to rest. The sky was her father, the wind, her mother.
