Well, today was awesome. No, beyond awesome. Up to a certain point. But now, all that awesome-ness that I experienced seems........so.......stupid. I mean......small, who-really-cares-ish.
I went on tour with my Jazz Band today. We rocked, AND we got out of school. But who really cares(ish)?
Today, at about 3.05 in the afternoon, a white, male, college-aged man enters the back door of a lecture hall, Cole Hall, while a geology professor is having class. He says nothing, but pulls out a gun and begins to fire. At that time, I was in Green Club, trying to do all my secretary duities (it's one hell of a job). At one point, sometime around three, I get the feeling that something is horridly wrong. I run around like a chicken with my head cut off, trying to figure out what kind of terrible mistake I made. Neither I nor any of my green mates can find any errors. I'm in a bad mood for the rest of the time. Like, a yelling at people, sad, but mad, but worried mood.
Well, Blues Band is still going on, even after GC got out, so I decided 'I'll just stick around, mum's not comming until four anyway.' So I grab the bass and mess around a while. Then Blues Band gets out early, and I'm still there, talking with Caleb and Mr Lundin. We're all playing on our instruments and talking music and how well the day was, when Mr Lundin finally has to kick us out so he can go home. We're all leaving when Mrs Silberhorn comes up to us and tells us that at three there was a shooting at NIU. She said she heard a lot of numbers, but there was anywhere from 3 to 15 down. down as in Hit, or Dead? She didn't know.
Mr Lundin blames it on Hallmark. He says that Valentines day was blown up by hallmark cards and isn't really that big a deal. People take it as so big a deal, and things like this happen. I agree. I'm not celebrating Valentines Day again. Anyone here know who St Valentine was? Acctually, there were many. no one knows anyhting aobut any of them, except that one or two were martyrs. They think(THINK!) that one of them is the patron of love. So Hallmark made a card for a feast day. Do they make cards for Saint Ambrose's feast day? Do they even know when that is? How about Saint Anastasia? She was burned on a stick!(not a stake, a stick) So she's a martyr too! You going to celebrate her? (sorry, ranting again)
Well, the school pretty much went into lock down after that. If there was a kid anywhere, there was a teacher with them, and no one was going outside unless their parent or an identifiable adult was taking them home. No one came in without talking to Mrs Mosher and Officer Jaques.
Finally, my dad gets there, and we drive to Malta to pick up my sister. We're listening to the radio, and we hear a bunch of different stuff. 'Perpetraitor no longer a threat' '15 injured, one dead' 'Shooter killed himself' 'One shot in head, sent to St Anthony's' and a whole bunch of other stuff.
Well, no. As of now, there are 6 dead, including the shooter, and at least 16 injured. Classes are closed tonight and tomorrow. They haven't given any identities of the injured, dead, or shooter, and they don't know exactly when classes are going to begin again. Downtown was INSANE on the roads, took us half an hour to get from CRMS to Lincoln Highway. The cell phones are all taking forever, because people are trying to make sure everyone else is okay. I've seen a totally of eight teed police cars today, which makes over twenty eight police.
Happy St. Valentines Day.
