Thanks to the fact that I went to bed at around 3 o'clock in the morning, and the fact that Illinois is 2 hours ahead of Las Vegas, I woke up around 1 that afternoon, which of course to us was like 11.
I got up, and fumbled with the faucets trying to take a shower, cause at 2 I was going with Kelly to meet a church friend of hers, Dennis, who woud be playing the Piano while she sang a song during Sophia's baptizing. He was so friendly and energetic, and from what Kelly said, I did believe he was a great guy. But once we got right down to it, he was very professional in what he was doing, and I think (Well, I know now of course) that she was going to do fine. Afterwards, we were going to go right back to the house, but Kelly wanted to pick up some film, so we went to a Drug Store on Main Street.
Ah, Main Street. "The Strip of Staunton" I call it. It's about the best thing the city has to offer, and it's where everyone gets everything. It includes the only Supermarket in town (Sonja would have no problem), Bill's, a Drive-Thru Liquor Store, a Subway, a Radioshack, and some family related businesses. Oh, and a "Russell Furniture" store, so that made me smile. Apparently, the kids loiter near the Subway, so brave and s**t.
We went to this place called Sullivan's Drugs, which is like half Pharmacy, half Hallmark. We were supposed to only be there for film, but Kelly wanted to get something for Grandma's Birthday, which is on the 2nd, and I was looking to get stuff for everyone back home. As you know, I got stuff for Jen and Sonja, and I like the idea, so I might go back and get some for Bay, Josh, and Russ. I think it's a good idea, and I know a few of you will like it, so all you will have to. *shakes fist*
The people here were so nice, it was almost annoying, the lady trying to help me find gifts for you guys, people in Nevada would never do that, they'd ask if you needed help, if you said no, you'd never see them again. And like I said, everyone knows everyone, so Kelly or someone else is always saying hi and checking up on you. It was nice there, but we spent about an hour there, so were so late getting back, but no one really cared.
Earlier that day, Grandma had went out while I had been asleep to help get Meghan to school, and she picked up some Chicken to make Fried Chicken for dinner. When we got back, Grandpa and I went out back to the store to get some money and fixin's, like potatoes and corn to go with the chicken.
We stopped at the little drive-thru teller bank, and the people were bugging Grandpa. But he is kind of a grump, and they were picking on each other through the window and speaker. One of them introduced herself, asking if I was related. When I nodded, she said, "You have my dearest sympathies." which got a laugh out of the ladies, but not out of Grandpa. They were really cool though, trying to cheat him out of $100 cause he's never nice to him, and they're the ones that always give him money. He must be famous around here for being crabby or something.
We went to Bill's, the grocery store after that, to pick up some things, like the corn and bread and potatoes, but he special ordered some Thick Cut Bacon from the butcher for Breakfast tomorrow. I'd never seen Bacon that big and chunky before, but I guess that's how they do it here, and like I said, everyone knows you, so there were a bunch of people meeting me and talking to him. One guy named Joe, a cashier clerk, got lectured by him, cause Grandpa found Joe's mom shopping in the store while he was working, and yelled at him for not just getting these things when he headed home, instead of his mom having to come here where he works to get stuff.
The next stop was the Liquor Store, run by the first, and only Asian guy I've seen in this town (no blacks or hispanics yet except me, I wonder why I'm not stared at). He had a co-worker, who looked like he couldn't have been a little older than me, but he was working and serving beer to the people in the Drive-Thru, plus he was smoking a cigarette while he was working. I guess that's ok in that business.
We had dinner when we got home, and man that Fried Chicken was good, I'm pretty sure I had thirds. For dessert, we had mixed berry and lemon meringue pie, and I couldn't get enough, I hadn't eaten anything that day anyway. We relaxed for a bit, while Kelly left for the airport to pick up my dad. Meghan and I tried to play Uno and go on the computer, but Sophia wasn't making it easy, so we got out Meghan's old swing from when she was a baby, and that seemed to calm her down a bit.
My dad finally got here when Sophia had calmed down, and the initiation process was activated again. He sad down and had some of the chicken and pie, but the adults were being boring, so Meghan and I retreated back to the computer, where I had tried to write about Friday and Thursday, but Gaia was being stupid that night for some reason, so I was SOL until today. Since dad was here, Meghan didn't get to sleep with Sophia and Kelly, so she got stuck in the recliner area next to me, so there wasn't a lot of T.V. time that night.
