Chapter two
~*Chapter two

I opened the front door to my house, kicked of my shoes, went upstairs and swung my backpack off. First thing was to do homework. I rummaged through my bag and grabbed my text books. History, which was the only homework I ever did. My best subject, history is the only reason why I’m still in school actually. I can just easily memorize dates and names of all the people of the past and actually, I enjoyed it.
Once I was done with my history it was time to eat dinner. I went downstairs, opened my refrigerator and stared at the crappy food we had. I grabbed a container of something, but it was so moldy know one could tell what kind of food it was before. I opened the freezer and grabbed a T.V. dinner, microwave it and then ate it. I almost choked, shocked in surprise to see my mom sitting in front of me. “Um . . . hey, mom.” She looked up at me, dark bags under her eyes. She gave me a weak grin and fixed her hair.
“Hey Annie, how was your day?” she asked weakly. I pulled my eyebrows together, staring questionably.
“Mom are you OK? Well I mean, why are you asking me about my day?” her lips formed a thin line.
“Well, I was trying to be motherly. We haven’t talked and well . . . you’re distanced.” Somewhat she was pissing me off. My dinner just ruined.
“Why didn’t you start acting like a mother when I was born?” I pushed myself up and marched upstairs to my room and shut the door. She can clean that s**t up by herself. I thought. I opened my closet and grabbed my sweats and baggy t-shirt. I went to the bathroom and took a shower. I just stood still in the shower, feeling the warm water beat on my head, and then streaming down my back. I looked at the scars on my arms and legs from hiking, tracing over them gently with my index finger. I closed my eyes and held my breath feeling the water splash on my face. I feel clean, and new.
I get out and dry myself, shut the door and turn my lights off. I sat there in the dark by myself for a while, waiting for a thump, then a scream. Bam. I got up ran to my bed and cover my ears. Shutting my eyes and clamping my teeth together shut.
“LINDA! OPEN THE DAMN DOOR!” my father screamed. Here it goes. “LINDA?!”
“It’s unlocked George! Please, stop yelling!” it was like a bad fight scene. She always said stop yelling, but it was too late I heard them already. I heard the door smack open, his feet thumping on the ground and continuous yelling and screaming. My mom was louder than my father, hoping anyone would hear her. No one bothered. We were invisible, we were careless and we were weak.

~*~

I woke up earlier than my alarm clock, did my routine and headed to my crap on wheels. Today I wanted to go to school super late. No one would ask about me, the teachers wouldn’t care. So I stood there just staring at my truck. The paint was peeling off, and it looked like something only a druggy would drive. It happened once, the cops pulled me over because of my car. Then they said they made a total mistake because I’m the daughter of a cop. I sighed then adjusted my bag and started to walk to school.
When I opened the doors to school everyone stopped what they were doing and started to whisper to each other. “Shut the ******** up already!” I yelled. Everyone stared at me. I grunted and walked to my locker and opened it. What classes were next? “Well then.” I sighed. I shut my locker and guess who was right next to me. Rodney. “You son of a b***h,” I gasped. “You scared the s**t out of me!” He laughed at me.
“Oh, I did? Sorry Ann, I was just wondering where you were. It’s either you live far away from school, or you walked slowly because it’s like lunch time.” he stared at me with his green eyes. I looked away and stared at my feet. He was looking for me.
“How is that possible? I woke up earlier than my clock. I walked to school—“
“Slowly?” he interrupted. I nodded. He shook his head and sighed, then patted my head and rested his hand there. “Want to eat lunch together?” I narrowed my eyes at him, glaring.
“No.” I snapped. I shoved his arm away from me. “Don’t touch me d**k.” He took his palm and covered his eyes. He started to laugh, harder and harder.
“Still on your period, huh?” he peeked through his fingers. I let out a tired groan and fast walked to the cafeteria. I just grabbed an apple and sat down at a lonely table. I hid my face and started to talk to myself.
“Who the hell does he think he is? He’s a retard. An idiot!” I lifted my head and saw Rodney sitting in front of me with a tray of food.
“I think I’m one popular new student named Rodney.” He took a sip of his milk.
“If you’re so popular then why aren’t you sitting with the football players, and flirting with the cheerleaders?”
“Not my crowd. You’re more like my people person.”
“I give up!” I sighed. “Fine, ok, hang with me as long as you like, but you’ll regret, dude.” I nibbled on my apple. And after a while, we got into a normal conversation. I saw girls glaring at me, the ‘you-better-back-off-b***h’, glare. It made me laugh a little. He heard me, and turned around and stared at the girls. The girls mouthed at him, ‘why are you hanging out with her?’ He only gave them a peace sign and turned his attention back to me. To tell you the truth, Rodney wasn’t a bad guy at all. He can be a d**k sometimes, then a cute guy. He didn’t seem real at all.
“Lunch is over, what’s your next class?” he asked me.
“History, but I don’t feel like going to any classes today. I think I’m gonna skip the rest of school.” I threw my eaten apple cob into the trash can and scored.
“Nice,” he commented. “If you walked here, that means you don’t have a car to get back home fast enough before you get caught. Guess I’ll join.” I raised my eyebrow.
“Really? Are you sure . . .? Aren’t your parents going to kill you?”
“Nah, they’re rich bastards. They love money more than me.”
“Ouch.” I said.
“It’s OK Annie, let’s get out of this hell hole anyways.” He wrapped his arm around my shoulders, my whole side of my body leaning against his other side. He smelled of cigarettes again and the warmth of his body spreading through my body. We walked down like that; I didn’t pull back, but watch the many jealous faces of girls that stood in the hallway.
