I wrote a poem for this contest (my first writing contest on Gaia) and I like it.
The prompt was: "You've just been informed that your closest friend has been in an accident and did not come out alive"
My poem:
REQUIEM
Timespans spanned the distances, which shrank,
Like shadows from a slowing fire.
Between we two, the atlas skewed,
How close you sounded on the wire.
Letters let your hand adjust, each word,
From silent strokes to screens and sounds.
A secret lost, in loops and cross,
As clouds are never merely clouds.
Our footprints crept to follow, closely,
Steps swift and weightless as the light.
The twilight bared, its colors flared,
And brushstrokes swept the day to night.
So the map lays cool and flat, and so,
Old written words regret their shrouds.
The landscape wanes, its mountains plains,
And clouds I only see as clouds.
