I like it.
Why people keep saying "why fix what's not broken" has nothing to do with anything...it's not about fixing something, it's about improving on something that was outdated...
The old bar was ok...I never really paid attention to it, or used it...if I needed anything from a user, it would be to look at their profile where I'd just click on their avi anyway...the old bar was somewhat of an eyesore at best...and while it added "color" to the page it's unnecessary color...all the color we need on the forum pages and posts are supplied by our avis, sigs and ever increasingly used post style imagery...that, to me, is the core of threads...the user bar is negligable...
Now, the NEW drop down user menu...VERY NICE. It's simple, takes up less space and right below the avi...for newer users it immediately shows options available to check out a user's profile, journal or initiate other actions w/ the user like trades, etc. It's much easier because it spells out via text labels instead of having obscure (albeit cute and colorful) icons that users must mouse over, one...by one...slowly...to see what each icon represents...waste of time, IMO.
Probably the most important thing about the new drop down menu is that it's SCALEABLE!!! Yes, now Gaia can easily add new options or feature actions as Gaia changes...relatively easily. The old bar is not easily scaleable...over time, it would get so long it would stretch across the page, and if there was a new option, Gaia would have to design another damned icon for it...waste of time...again.
Overall, great job Gaia...edits that make sense...IMPROVING on what wasn't broken but highly unuseful... wink
