Prologue
The mountain overhead was enormous. It loomed over the entire area, filling all those who lived under its shadow with dread. It was so large that the peek of the mountain was hidden above the clouds. All who were brave enough to tread on it’s slope were never seen again.
At the top of the mountain there lay a huge castle. In it dwelt an ancient king who had a curse of eternal life cast upon him. In the beginning he thought it was the most wonderful gift anyone had given him. But after he had outlived his entire family and all those he loved he began to hate it. He cast himself from the top of the castle spire only to find that he was still alive.
He searched far and wide for a cure to the curse that had been cast upon him, but he found none. All the villages he searched were destroyed when he found nothing. Along the way he recruited evil men who would do anything he asked them to do.
On one of these many excursions, the king left his men behind him at his castle. He walked alone down the sloping mountainside until he reached the bottom. There, he found a pasture where he saw a group of sheep grazing with their young shepherd lying, apparently asleep, against a tree nearby.
“You there,” called the king to the shepherd. “Your king is thirsty, bring me a drink or it will be your last denial!” Slowly the shepherd got up and walked to his small hut, the king was about to chase him and rip him apart when he saw him coming back with a jug of wine and a golden cup, almost as if it were reserved for someone of his stature.
“Here you are my lord,” he said, handing him both. The King took them both and poured the wine for himself and drank it greedily. The young shepherd continued in a different voice, one that suggested he had seen far more winters than what he appeared. “I have been expecting you King Tonnerre. I know what you seek, but you will not find it in this Century.
