Well, the day's half over, and I feel somewhat cheated wasting all day at stupid Rancho High School. Oh well, it can't be helped, and it's got me in the clear for next weekend.
The test wasn't so bad, it was just the waking up so early on a Saturday. Kelly had to drop me off like an hour early, cause right now she's starting to take a Master's Degree class for Education, and for the next months it's going to be every Saturday from around 8 in the morning to 6 in the evening. I didn't have to walk around much, this one lady coming out of the building told me where it was, and turned out to be one of the proctors for the exams.
I sat in the back for a while and played Wario Ware, then when everyone started gradually getting there, they asked everyone to line up single file, and present their tickets. From then, depending on if you were taking the Writing portion and if you were left or right handed, you got seated in the auditorium. I ended up being right next to two of my friends from VoTech, Maria and Yessenia. So that was nice, before the exams we talked about our futures and what we were planning and had planned for this test and all that.
For two ladies who looked like they weren't looking forward to getting up in the morning, they sure kept everything in order. I think it was mainly because of the seriousness of the test, being that any wrong doing got you kicked out immediately, and your effort and money was down the drain. The first subject was English, and it was mostly, read the paragraphs, and edit the grammar or punctuation problems. That part was pretty easy, I'm sure I did well.
Next came Mathematics. This was the only test they said you could use calculators, and I thought that was a big duh, until I realized that you could input memory and programs into calculators to cheat on the answers, so I understood from there. The math was pretty difficult, so I do have to thank Josh for letting me use his calculator, otherwise I wouldn't have finished in the allotted time. Speaking of which, everyone keeps telling me the ACT is easier than the SAT, so I'm scared to think how hard that one is.
Following the Math portion, we were "allowed" a 10 minute break, to go do whatever. Everyone made a break for the bathrooms backstage, but not every one of us was going to make it and get out in 5 minutes, especially not the girls. So I figured I would just hold it in and go outside. When I was out there, I noticed a bunch of the kids who go to Rancho heading into the cafeteria, so I followed them, hoping to find the bathrooms. A bunch of football kids were in there talking to the coach, so they let us in, and I was very grateful for that. I wanted to get a snack or something to drink too, but I could break the bills I had.
Reading was after that, and this one was about as easy as the English, if not easier. There was like 4 passages we had to read, 10 questions each, and you reasd through it and answer questions based on the passage. Same old stuff.
Science, however, I think kinda aggravated me. The huge diagrams and figures kinda scared me into thinking I'd never finish this portion, so I used the trick my 7th grade History teacher taught me: read the questions first, then as you're reading, look for the answers to what you read about. I got throught it, but I'm a little bit worried, but just a little.
Afterwards, they collected a majority of the answer sheets, and dismissed a bunch of people, because now we were moving on to the Writing portion. I will say that discovering this was kinda annoying, thinking that I paid an extra $15.00 for what I ended up having to do. There were about 15 of us left, and I'd take a guess that there were about 35 of us beforehand. This part was easy, and actually went by faster than I thought. I was worried we'd be there forever more and the ones who left got it lucky. The essay was basically to write about what kind of teaching you think is more important, communicative or knowledgeable. I went off writing, and by the time I was done, my hand cramped, but we finally got out of there. I said later to Maria and Yessenia, and started walking towards the bus stop.
I decided to drop off at McDonalds first, cause I was real hungry, my internal school lunch bell had been going off for the past hour. I ended up seeing Maria and Yessenia there anyway, and we ate together and they offered me a ride home, which I was also very grateful for. A guy showed up offering bootleg DVD's, and they bought a couple too. I've seen these guys before, most of them actually have good stuff too, I saw Domino in there and Doom already, so I was kinda impressed.
They drove me home, and well, here I am. Dad has some friends over, Kelly's already home, and I'm trying to relax by writing a bit, but now it's free write, and I don't need a stupid a** No. 2 pencil.
It's all about ball point pens anyway. mrgreen
