"Don't lose sight of the world around you. You might lose everything in the process of finding your way back."
"Ow!"
"Hold still, boy," Mrs. Schooss barked, pinching the creased skin of the elbow joint, trying to find his vein.
Rafael froze, shaking a bit. The look of the shiny needle in Michelle's mother's hand was taunting the boy, who wasn't feeling well on top of his continuous fear of needles. He would've bolted out of the back of the woman's Suburban if it weren't for Ashley holding both shoulders down.
He felt a pair of warm hands over his eyes, and a chin on his head.
"Ah, quit squirming! Now I know how my mom felt when she took me to the doctors." Ashley sighed, and almost giggled at the touch of Rafael's eyelashes on her palm. This was a comforting feeling; her mom used to do this all the time when she was scared.
After chuckling, Mrs. Schooss inserted the needle, and said, "Good job, Mr. Sisneros. Now just relax; you'll feel better after the antidote takes affect.
Michelle popped from behind the backseat, chewing on some gum. "Anyone want any?"
Ashley took a piece with a thank you. Rafael could feel the chewing on his head. Groaning he said, "Yeah, thanks Michelle. Let her chew on my head."
Michelle and Ashley giggled, Michelle just tilting her head. "Well, sorry."
Kylee and Vladimir joined the group outside. It had taken awhile to gather every one's things -"Sheesh, how much stuff can Ashley handle?"- Luckily, there were trees and benches; Mrs. Schooss had locked the heavily-tinted doors to the car. Bored, she asked, "Are you okay with me writing a little tune?"
Vladimir glanced at her. "Of course. May I ask what it's called?"
Kylee looked inside the car, the figures of four bleeding through. The sound of screaming, laughter, and a bit of cussing was like music to her ears. "I don't know. But I know what it's going to be about."
This is the story of the century. This is the tale of the friends, You've never known, But never seem, to get rid of, Even when the going gets rough.
Chorus So let me read to you the tale of four friends, And their journey to the center of the world. (They're doing the impossible, and working it hard.) And the tears, and the laughs, And all the moments that seem to fit in between, I want to show you everything in their world. This is the beginning of my story, The beginning of The Adventures of Teenage Weirdos.
Kylee smiled. She had never really written songs before (She often looked over Michelle's notebook during study hall when she didn't know Kylee's name. Both the other girls were good at poetry.) and this was her first. It looked a bit long, but Kylee figures she could edit the weird stuff later.
She turned to look at Vladimir, but her lips zipped shut at Vladimir's intense gaze. The pupils were narrowed, the color of his eyes was killing her.
"Vladimir...?" Kylee turned her head, and noticed two figures in the distance. One had long hair down to their butt, the other had short hair.
"Ms. Kylee, get inside."
"Wha?"
"NOW."
Kylee scrambled awkwardly with every one's things, and hurried into the backseat of the Suburban, where Mrs. Schooss was getting out of the trunk. As she left, she locked the doors.
"What happened, Kylee?" Michelle asked beside her.
"I don't know, but there are people out there."
Rafael jerked away from Ashley's hands. "What? Who?"
"I don't know. Vladimir made me come inside before anything-"
Then the car clicked open again, and Vladimir and Mrs. Schooss were diving into the fronts seats. "DRIVE, VAN DUUKE, DRIVE!" was screeched. Vladimir had caught the keys the woman tossed midair, and shoved them into the ignition. Despite the parallel parking, Vladimir easily swerved out of the spot, and into the side streets of the nearby neighbor hood.
Ashley looked behind them in fear of what was going on. "Oh my-"
"GOD!" Michelle screamed.
"s**t!" Rafael gritted his teeth. It was Garloash, that thing that almost ate him. And apparently he was bigger than Rafael had seen.
The flat-nosed-dragon-like animal was racing down the streets, gliding upon the road. Vladimir made a sudden turn, tossing the teens across the car. But Garloash flowed easily through the passageways, orange eyes filled with anger.
As they passed a lady, Vladimir zoomed by, as did the drooling Garloash. Her skirt went flying, but her eyes portrayed no fear. Ashley caught her face, and the woman seemed more annoyed than scared.
Ashley froze. Was this why no one knew of the world of Orbs? Because their magic was invisible?
