"Heard you could sing."
Ashley looked up, and tilted her head sweetly. "So I've been told. What's it to you?"
"He and I making a band. You in for practice tonight?"
Ashley lookd at her, then stared at her mother's note - ...we're meeting your new father today. Crumbling the piece of paper from her almost non-existent parent, Ashley stood.
"Yeah."
"Aren't you a bit too young to be a veteran?"
"Aren't you a bit too young to be here?"
Ashley shut her mouth, but pouted at his comment. Romair sat back, and sighed at her face. "Yeah. I went into the military when I was fifteen. Got booted out for drug use."
Drugs? A bit of fear arose. Romair chuckled this time.
"Don't worry kid. Been clean for three years."
Ashley gave him a suspicious look. "How old are you?"
"Old enough to be your brother."
"Which is?"
"I'm twenty-three."
Ashley's eyes narrowed. Only twenty-three? He looked older than that. She turned towards Kylee, and asked, "You?"
She laughed, and wagged a finger. "It's rude to ask a lady how old she is, you know?" Shaking her head, she gave the teenager a smile. "Twenty-two. I'll be twenty-three in a month or so. We assume you're fifteen?" Ashley nodded slowly.
"Hmm. I remember that age. The best year of my life." She leaned on Romair softly. Ashley noticed Romair's arm dangling over the woman's chair, and barely touching her back. It was obvious what the number fifteen meant to them. She then glanced at the silver band on his ring finger.
"You two... are married?"
Kylee immediately sat up. "What? No! Of course not!" Even in the dim lighting, Ashley could make out the red on her cheeks. The man simply coughed.
Ashley just laughed.
-
Ashley is part of the band, Lumious Ice.
Her ex-boyfriend is with Erratic Tuna Can, otherwise known as ETC by their fans.
With a battle of the bands coming up, she has no idea what she should do. Sure she totally wants to kick the jerk's a$$, but she also doesn't want to be known too much; she's in trouble enough just being part of LI.
But then again, her mother is rarely there to even care.
While they gained popularity, Luminious Ice's fan's demands for their appearances grew. Stress grew as well, as she tried to balance schoolwork, the band, and her new family life.
But while walking the streets, Ashley enters an underground music club for inspiration, for an answer. ANY answer. To her life, her problems, EVERYTHING. Music had always been her escape, and now with her life practically falling apart, she needed it more than ever.
Enter Delirium; a band composed of only two people, one playing guitar, the other vocals and bass. Ashley's heart is immediately caught between their melodies and their lyrics of hope.
Their names were Kylee and Romair. And they had their own stories to tell.
Ashley indulges in their tales for a single night, and is swept away by their moments of pity and victory. As she relives their childhood, she realizes how hard life can be... and how absolutely beautiful it can be.
