"What do you want from me?" he turned, and he finally showed her the desperation that was heard in his voice. "Why are you constantly haunting me?"
She said nothing.
"Why won't you ever go away? Stop calling me! Stop pestering me!" he turned again, and closed his eyes. "Just... stop. Every time I see your face, all I see is the shadow of someone that used to be my friend."
She said nothing.
He said nothing.
And soon, there was nothing but a small ache in her hollow chest, and a tightening in his.
He was tired. So tired. He was in pain, and he was tired of everything. He just wanted to sleep, and drift away. Was that so much to ask of this girl?
He dragged a finger across her face, and she closed her eyes to feel his touch. It hurt. It left a warm spark down her cheek. The sensation felt so familiar, and so real, that she felt tears prickling her eyes. She gently leaned into the touch, and he quietly drew away. She opened her eyes, and let her watery gaze ask him why he had to stop.
“Say something.”
Her lips made a sullen line on her pretty face. She looked down.
“Say something.”
Her eyes closed again, and she bit down a choked sob.
“Why won‘t you say anything?”
She shook her head.
“Say something.”
Tears flowed from watery eyes to her pale cheeks to the tip of her chin.
“Anything.”
She tried to squeak. Nothing.
This time, his mouth became a line, but he wasn’t sure why. Why did he feel so disappointed? This girl wasn’t anyone to him. Just another face without a name. Just a girl with her face.
He turned to walk away, and took several steps away. When she realized his shoes weren’t in her lowered line of vision, she looked up, and frantically tried to cry out to stop when she saw him begin to merge into the crowd of people on the sidewalk. Nothing came. Slender fingers reached out, and tears streaked her face like rain. She weaved her way pass the people - those with a face, but no name - and voicelessly screamed out. But nothing came.
Nothing came.
Nothing came.
Nothing came.
Brownish-orange locks blew behind her as she bumped and struggled pass the people in the mass crowd. Someone stepped on her white high heels, and she flinched. But her head snapped up again to keep the male in sight. She tried again to yell, to whisper, to ANYTHING. But nothing came.
No.
A single droplet of water fell onto her head. She ignored it. Slowly, umbrellas rose. A sea of black, with her dressed in all white. Her dress would be ruined. But she didn’t care.
He had her heart. He had her. But slowly, slowly, the man was walking away, wearing all gray.
But nothing came.
Nothing came.
NOTHING CAME.
N o t h i n g will ever come…
BUT I HAVE TO TRY.
“Don’t go…” she touched her lips, and reeled in the vibration of her own voice. But she didn’t stop chasing. “Don’t go!”
He stopped. That voice. The halted all movements, and shoved his head tiwards the direction of the drenched girl in all white. That voice… where had he heard it before?
“JADEN!”
Where had he heard it before…?
“Lena…”
-
Jaden has brain problems. He didn’t always have it, but he doesn’t remember when he didn’t. He forgets things very easily.
So he was sent to a hospital for recovery. He wasn’t nice there. Everythign was horrible. But he had a nurse. A very pretty nurse. And he thought about her all the time. Why? He didn’t really know. All he knew is that she always dressed in white, and that she had a very pretty smile.
He liked that smile.
One day, he went outside. And someone told him he was crazy. He never saw the nurse again.
One day, he saw a very nice lady with the same face. But he wasn’t in the hospital.
She was very pretty.
