"Protect her majesty and little lady! Either that or die trying!" Yelled one of the head guards, they surrounded Alarice and Amarante, her younger sister for protection. Alarice brought Amarante closer to her, knowing the child eyes were full of terror for her sister, and of the people were now storming the castle. Why now? Did they hate her family so horribly that they wished not to have another one take the throne? Did they despise them so much because there Mother was due demonic birth that they'd harm a child that isn't even twelve yet? Monsters! They claim that Alarice was, but she wasn't! They were! A familiar fierceness enveloped Alarice fine features, revealing her regal way, the one thing that could stop a crowd. Would it?
Amarante tugged her sister sleeve, Alarice looked down at the youngling, noticing that it was more then just fear in her eyes "Big Sister, I don't understand this at all. Why do the guards...we're...monsters, are we not? I am scared, what did we do that was so wrong? They say such cruel things, I just, don't understand Alarice, and do you?" She asked, in the soft and sweet voice that terrified those that listened. It was always the thought that this girl was so delicate, divine and sweet, yet she was different, the voice was hypnotic.
Alarice looked at her sister, as the guards moved them along "No, we are not. Things happen, and people get scared of those things that happen at times, we are not bad. We only try to do what is right; we are never bad unless we purposely hurt someone." She told the girl, and looked to the guards. Lalala, came a sound, a sound that meant something to Alarice, her Mother had described it as a sense that Alarice had with people she cared for. This sound brought the image of her best friend, Lady Malinda of Julis. The princess looked at the guard “What is it?” She demanded, a guard looked at her insecurely. He sighed “Malinda, has been captured, and they have her tied-“but he was cut off when seeing Alarice look. She gave Amarante to a nearby lady-in-waiting, and snatched a sword from a guard. With that she sprinted to the balcony, which is where they had been heading anyways. When Alarice pushed open the doors, the crowd were swirling, she noticed the black spots of demonic hatred, and sin, the creatures who had started this all.
They noticed Alarice immediately, whispering sweet words to the human or non-human participants. Only one thing caught Alarice eye, Malinda, on a wooden stand, tied to a post looking scared. Wait! Her mouth was moving, the words were familiar as her own body. It was their song, the song they’d had since they were little! Red-brown wisps flew out behind her, as Amarante came to door, hiding cautiously. Along with her sister came her parents, who stood watching. Alarice sung the words “Seems like yesterday, Was a game we played or a scene from a play, Can't we freeze the frame? Can't we pause the game? Can't you always be with me?” She whispered, finally looking out to the crowd who was raging.
All it took was one look from Malinda, and Alarice knew, knew that her friend was ready. In one motion, he friend was set on fire; Alarice felt her eyes widen “No! No!” She felt tears come, sweeping her cheeks. A guard grabbed her waist, to stop her; she heard Malinda’s words, the sweet song. Her friend didn’t scream, and Alarice continued “Can't it just be now forever, you and me together. Now forever, Then you'd stay, can’t it just be now forever? You and me together, now and forever, then you'd stay” She whispered, crying. A scream came from Alarice throat “I call to you, sweet fate!” She forced herself to look regal as can be. She smoothed her gown, wiped away the tears, as her friend died.
