It was dark. I knew it was dark because I was, in that moment, only aware of what light looked like. And I knew that darkness was the opposite of what light was. Slowly I started to remember what darkness was, as if my mind was connecting invisible dots. Were my eyes open? In the rush to do so, I came across a realization that caught me quite off guard.
I didn't have eyes.
This fact came quick and without doubt. When I went to open my eyes, I was greeted with something oh so familiar. A screen. While my vision was not impaired, I could see the transparent information on either sides of my vision. The temperature, my elevation, longitude and latitude and many other readings were there at my disposal. Putting my hands against my face, I felt the familiar flat surface that only my screen could give.
Instantly it all came back to me, as if my memory had yet to reboot. I had been shot in a small town up North. The name escapes me but I knew it was intentional and there was a reason behind it. I knew that I sent Retrostacja after a familiar face even after he too was shot by the mysterious assassin. I had gone out into the frozen tundra to escape, but it had become my grave. Or at least that had been one of my last thoughts.
Why was I a cyborg again? In the moment I wish I could have been more excited, but as I stood up, I didn't want to look a gift horse in the mouth. Although I no longer had a mouth, I could still taste salt water. I don't know what He had done, or if He had anything to do with it at all. But I was grateful. The gunshot wound was not healed, but a cyborg can survive a bullet much better than the human body can.
As I started walking (although where I was going, I do not know), I pulled up Retrostacja's tracking system. Wherever he was, I could get to him. Or initiate the small video camera installed in him so I could communicate with whoever had picked him up.
To my honest surprise, when I saw Gera's name by Retro's location, I couldn't help but laugh. It was one of those nervous laughs, I think. Who else better for Retro to go to than a nurse?
