What do I live for? A world that will never be, With people that don't care, An existence I'll never see.
The stars of the velvet dark Peer down without emotion They feel nothing, react not At a world without motion
Frozen in the crystalline night As a mosquito in amber There is no tunnel, no train There most certainly is no light
Time is suspended without end, But my fingers still twitch The wind speaks in hushed tones And the dawn doesn't send
Rain lingers mid-knock Against the tin drum roof Against my ever eager skin And my feet dangling in my socks
With the river but four blocks away The taste of muddy water surfaces The gentle waver trickles down my throat And I find it hard to stay
Patiently awaiting is this bliss Meandering down the bodies of peace Restfulness, ease, calm, painless The serenity of being remiss
So what shall I die for? For the well deserved rest From all of the struggle and fight The constant waging of war
For the world that will never be, With people that don't care, An existence I'll never see And the river that does.
