Internet Influence
Welcome to the world of Gaiaonline. An anime RP world that attracts young teens to adults with a common interest, and a LOT of free-time. User's interact and share ideas while making "gold" that contributes to letting their avatar character look richer. Basically a society where people who don't do work are "poor" and devoted people are "rich". Now most of these ideas are shared over the forums, or more popularly, the sub forum General Discussion or GD. While browsing the topics one day in GD, I happened upon a usual subject of internet influencing the children of today. We're all familiar with the subject, seeing as how much publicity Myspace has had lately, and the arguements are pretty repetitive. Sexual Predators find it easier, easier drug and alcohol sources, etc etc. This topic focused on the how gaia promoted a more sexual child.
Quote: Look at the clothes for the avatars. Fishnet shirts? bras? skimpy swimsuits? and some avatars walk around in just underwear! And not to mention the whips, leather, and lingerie!
After all, us teens are always trying to look like 3inch tall cartoons, right? I mean, I've always wanted to dress JUST like a powerpuff girl! Ok sure, the short mini-skirted Sailor Moon look was an attraction, and the body suits from Dirty Pair were totally awesome, but anime can't take all the blame. After Dukes of Hazzard came out, I noticed many more short shorts and tight shirts! Not to mention the outbreak of blonde hair and freakishly high-heels! Oh yes, and if not the stars, lets go with the parents! After all, one reason we dress in odd ways is to see that look on our parents faces when their eyes pop and their jaws drop! So does Gaiaonline promote sexuality in children? Not anymore than anything else in society today. And personally, I'd rather have a few more kids have the idea to wear a fishnet shirt to school than lose a site that helps my writing, typing, and learning from other people. Not to mention keep me up to date with issues in the world!
