I is so partied out. It almost makes me feel bad, that I can be so tired and worn-out as if I did something I should be commended for, when all I did was overload on fun. It's the good kind of bad, I suppose.
I woke up all jumpy of couse because today was the day of my interviews for Best Buy. I went downstairs to throw my nice clothes in the dryer, so they'd be perfect when I got dressed up later. After breakfast my dad wanted my help outside, we needed to fix the stupid front gate before this Wednesday so Kelly could pass the health inspection for her day-care setup in the house. The reason the gate was messed up was because they had moved it up the wall when they were putting all the concrete and grass in the backyard way back when, and it was a sort of move that would just get the gate out of the way of their work, but for it to work was a whole different story. So we fiddled with that all morning with no luck on getting the screws to work properly and align the gate to the little latch that closes it all together. It was a big waste of time, and got us both frustrated and upset for a while, until it was around 12:30 and my dad said I should start getting ready, as a way for him to get out of trying anymore.
So when I walk inside, what do I see? My lovely business clothes just thrown on the gate for the stairs, like so ruddy old gym socks. The dryer's on, so that means Kelly must have thrown stuff in there already and just tossed my stuff. I was really not happy with that, she could have told me my stuff was down while we were out there so I could have hung it up, that was the whole reason they were being cleaned and such. There wasn't much damage though, but I didn't have time to worry about it. So yeah, I went through my big whole process of getting ready. Kelly drove me to Best Buy, making it there at like 1:43. I had brought my backpack which included a change of clothes because I was going to try to make it to Alexis' party even though I'd be like 2 hours late.
So I walk in the front doors, and what do you know, Kalen is the greeter at the front doors. He points me in the way of customer service, telling me to make sure they know I'm here, he had just called my house thinking I wasn't going to show up. So there I am, sitting down next to this loud guy who's talking on one of those hands-free cell phones, so you think he's talking to you or himself. All of a sudden, this guy from Geek Squad walks into his office, and he looks really familiar. He looks like Sam from middle school, so I call out, but he doesn't respond. So I figure I just got the wrong guy, but I'm still thinking in my head that that has to be him. All of a sudden I hear, "Emiliano, what the hell are you doing here?" It's Chelsea, Marissa's best friend and a friend of mine from freshman year. Sonja had told me she worked at Best Buy, but I thought it was the one in Henderson next to the Galleria mall. Guess not. So I'm sitting here thinking, Hey, this is pretty cool. I know two people here. Then I see that guy who looks like Sam again, so I try calling out, and he answers. I guess at first he didn't recognize me, but seeing his face change when he realized who I was was priceless.
So now I'm thinking, Wow, I know a lot of people here. Then someone comes behind the desk, because Chelsea and Sam are talking about how they know me from whenever. He reminds me of Jay, this kid I used to know in elementary school who had crappy handwriting because he would hold the pencil with all of this fingers together. So I ask Chelsea if that guy's name is Jay, and she says yes and tells me he already recognized me and told them when he knew me from. It's starting to become an entire class reunion now, when Loni, the "Hiring Coordinator" (as it says on her badge) shows up. She's not at all who I expected from hearing her voice, but she looks a lot younger than how she sounded, so I guess that's a plus for her?
Oh, but the reunion continued. Loni had to go talk to someone first, so she told me where to sit down, but as I was walking by, one of the employees stops me and asks if I went to Fremont, his name was Josè, I didn't recognize him at first, but I do remember his face. He even told me an old friend from 4th grade, Bianca worked the night shifts. Loni came back and broke up our meet, I think maybe half-joking that I couldn't work there because I knew too many people, when I honestly only knew Kalen worked here.
So she sits me down next to this table in the corner of the store and we start the interview. It's the standard stuff, personal information, quizzing me on situations, although I make a note about her pen because it seemed like she pulled it out of nowhere, because I figured if I could make small talk, it'd put us on a friendlier basis and the interview could go a lot smoother. Well, I managed to set her off, because she went on this huge long rant about how she has a pen fetish and how she should probably work at Office Depot because she can tell you where in the store and what aisle to get pens and probably how much they cost and how she just got this new one here and it's like the latest one from it's brand and how they have them from Target as well.
Yeah, that run-on sentence was to illustrate how she went on and on and on. But I just kept paying attention, she's a girl and they like to talk, whatever it takes to get the job, you can get through this, it's not so bad, you're learning a lot about pens? So we continued the interview, and I'll be honest, Loni's a good person, but I feel bad because she must not get to talk to many people that care about how her day is going or how it went. I would have been fine about the pen rant except she had to go and say it was like a pen fetish, because then my dirty mind couldn't get the thoughts that associate with fetish out of my head combining them with pens. gonk
So she left and brought my second interviewer, Jason, the "Business Operations Manager" over. My interview with Jason wasn't nearly as interesting as Loni's, however I will say I wanted to steal his tie, it had a good blend of blues and orange, also Chelsea said later she thought Jason was cool and that she liked him, but I took that as she had a thing for him. His questions were a bit tougher, because he went through a situation because I knew Kalen worked there, that asked what I would do if I caught Kalen trying to steal something from the store.
After he left, Loni came back with disappointing news. My third interviewer, the General Manager, was at a meeting, but they would call me to find a time for him. They waved me off, and I headed back to Kalen's post, but spotted Chelsea first, updated her, and she reassured me I'd probably get the job. Kalen's nowhere to be found, he told me he wanted to go eat after he got off at 3, but there's 15 minutes left so I figure he went off somewhere. I decide to stop at Barnes and Noble and check back when it's 3 o' clock. I stopped in, changed into my casual clothes, Solid Snake style, bought a Tangerine flavored Frappucino, and bought the newest .hack novel, give me something to pass the time on the way to Desert Breeze Park. I go back to Best Buy, but Kalen's nowhere to be found, and no one knows where he is, so I leave a message on his cell and tell him we can try again some other time, I've got somewhere to be.
I catch the 109 to Sahara, and I have to stand up, and it's hot and it smells, but I just keep thinking of my destination. The 204 goes by as I'm getting off of the 109, so I stop into Taco Bell to grab something, thinking back to Kalen's lunch invitation. I buy one of those Spicy Crunchwrap Supreme's, and they are indeed good to go. I leave the restaurant with perfect timing to catch the 204 West, and read the whole way up to Durango. Getting off, I head into Hallmark to buy Kelly a Thank-You card, lately she's been feeling down, so I decided to get this to help her feel better and let her know I appreciate all that she does for me. I try to call Jen's house, knowing that they could be anywhere in the park so I'd better try to grab their location. No answer, so I try Josh, Sonja and even Russell, but nothing. I figured they could check my MySpace and see if Alexis replied to my message that I'd be late, I wasn't able to go online all morning because of the stupid gate. But nothing, so I grab a big bottle of water, and start my journey to the park.
The sun is beating on my back, and I'm so tired that when I get to Vons I try everyone's numbers again, frustrated at the lack of responses. I stand in the entranceway to Vons to try and cool off, but nothing helps. I go to Easy Life, thinking they'd be there, but all I end up with is some Lychee Boba drink and temporary cool. By now when I take off my backpack to rest, the sweat had marked my shoulders and my shirt looks disgusting. I still press onward in the hell that is the heat. Since I'm out of options, I just check the entire park, which takes an hour, with no shade, and can't find anyone. I fall onto the grass nearly in tears I'm so mad I can't find them, they probably went to someone's house. I head inside Rite-Aid to get some water, and fix myself up a little. I buy an ice cream cone to feel better, and try Jen's house one more time. Her dad answers, but the stupid phone won't let me respond to him, so he hangs up telling me try again, he knows someone was on the other line trying talk, he just couldn't hear them at all.
So I march to Carl's Jr., try again, and finally manage to speak with someone, I jot down Jen's cell number, and track them down. They were like 50 ft. from Easy Life, inside some Japanese restaurant called Sen of Japan. I beg them to come pick me up, and while they head over, I grab a soda, relieved but already tired. Alexis finds me inside and I reluctantly hug her because I'm all sweaty, and we get into the car and she updates me on people's situations. The restaurant is nice inside, and the ladies are really nice to me, so I'm super polite with them instead. I order some meat skewers with sweet potato tempura, and Alexis introduces me to the rest of the group, and I only recognize San, her boyfriend, and of course Jen. Meanwhile I catch up with Jen and Alexis, telling them of my brave endeavors while they have pity on my pour soul. xd
I order a roll of California sushi, to try and share with Jen because all she had was some Shrimp Tempura, which is like a snack. She waits until the last piece is left and swipes it, but I hold my tongue that she took the last one which is always the best piece no matter how bad the food is, because she needed to eat, but why the last piece?! Luckily, I wait until it's in her mouth to complain so she can't give it back and rain down on me with apologies. blaugh
After we're done with the restaurant, we pile into different cars and head on over to one of her friends' house. I feel bad not even knowing the guy, I think it was two brothers who live with their sister. They live about as northwest as you can get though, they were nearly at the mountain, which is the exact opposite of my house. Alexis assures me and Jen though that she will do whatever it takes to get us rides home, if she has to pay for our gas. God, I wish some other person was nearly as thoughtful.
From then on, it was Party Central, snacks, messing around, video games, the computer, and observing the Ultimate Manga Bookshelf of Ultimate Destiny. I had so much fun I almost couldn't take it, and their house was so nice, I loved the view of the entire city from their windows. The brothers are also huge fighting game fanatics, they've even built their own custom arcade stick controllers, not to mention they have the best version of Guilty Gear that never came out in America, that has all the new characters from Isuka but abandons that lame a** "manual turnabout" that nearly ruined the series for me. Oh, and they had KOF XI, which also hasn't come out in America yet. I must have this game, there is no dispute, it rocks so hard, I've been waiting for a sequel, I thought I was going to be stuck with Neo Geo Battle Coliseum.
When it got close to midnight, Alexis found one of her friends from College to drive me home, Christina, who I need to add on MySpace now by the way. Her drawing skills are supreme, she's going to finish her drawing of a tree falling on Larxene for me. HOW COOL IS THAT?! SHE'S GOING TO DRAW ME THAT. heart
