in full metal alchemist, sensei izumi had a baby but it died so she tried to do human transmutation, like ed and al, to bring the baby back to life. however, the baby came back to life as a monster without a soul, known as a homoculus(sp?) or a man made human. a homoculus is brought to life via body transmutation. so when ed and al tried to use body transmutation to bring their mother back to life, al was gone and he would have been dead if Ed didn't sacifice his arms and legs to bring al soul back."take my arm and my legs but please give me back my little brother!" ed use alchemy and put al's soul into the armor that's in the house. the homoculus known as Wrath(i think), is angry at Edward because if he didn't sacifice his limbs, Wrath wouldn't come into a meaningless, souless exsistence.Wrath blames Ed for his suffering. homoculus is a souless man made human, basically it's only a body given a psyche. this explain why Izumi is attached to the kid they found at the island. Paradise Island is the Place where she did the body transmutation on her dead child. when she came to, she woke up in front of the gate and she offered her child to the gate. the jungle kid is the same child she tried to revive using alchemy. in the process of using body alchemy,Izumi sensei lost half her internal organs due to the rule of alchemy of equilavent exchange, in order to gain something, one must give in something of equal value.
