Soap, daily ordinary soap, back in the old days was made out of left over animal fat. When hunters killed an animal, they'd use every bit of it. Meat for food, skin for cloth, bones for tools, and fat for soap. They'd let it coagulate ((gawd that word sounds nasty)) and then after it was hard, they carved it into bars and washed themselves in the river.
