a little brown book
finding the life of Alexander Shaw, a kind of serial story.
I opened them to a concerned pair of blue eyes that I knew all too well.
“Xander? Are you alright?” Edward asked me.
“It was too much for him.”behind Edward was Vlad, standing as I remembered him impeccably attired in his favorite dark gray. Almost- there was blood on his handkerchief, which he was holding in one hand. My breath steamed in front of me.
“No, it's just another attack.” Edward assured him.
“I'm fine...” once again my memories faded; replaced by the urgency of what I had seen; Edward and Vlad's savage attack. But... it wasn't as terrifying as it might be.
“Is it... always like that?” I asked.
Edward smiled, somewhat triumphantly at Vlad. “No. it isn't.”
“Ah....” I took a deep breath. “I can see that I need to learn more.” Feeling as though I was forgetting something, something very important, I pushed the hair that had fallen in my eyes back. “It would be foolish of me to base my opinion on one instance, wouldn't it?” I took a few deep breaths, resenting the tightness in my chest that kept me from taking a proper deep breath, and tried to calm down. “It may have seemed monstrous; but I know that neither of you are monsters.”
The look on their faces; Vlad's and especially Edward's, made all of the terror and the vague nauseous feeling on deja vu worth it.
“No. We aren't are we.” Edward said softly, shaking his head. He crushed me into his arms, and buried his face in my shoulder, as though he was crying though his face was dry. “We aren't monsters after all.”
