People ask the same question all the time when I bring up music. What genres do you like? And you know what I should have answered. The genre of music. People constantly bitching and whining. You can't spell crap without rap. Country sucks. Pop is gay. Why? Do people even take the time to listen to anything other than what is mainstream? I'd venture to guess that more than ninety percent of those people don't. There are a few that have I'm sure. And if they aren't fond of a genre, that's fine; but to say that it sucks because of that, I find that wrong.

I will say this, yes, alot of mainstream music can sound bland and repetitive to many, myself included. But does that make it bad necisarrily? Sometimes I just want to kick back and here something upbeat. I like meaning behind my music just as much as the next person; but it's not always what I'm in the mood for.

Another thing I wonder is why people insist on generalizing, and at the same time, being hypocritical. I often see arguments that rap is all about sex, hoes, bling bling, and murder. Then they have the nerve to say they love rock. Last time I checked, rock talks about the same things. I could give countless examples of this; but I shall spare you the details.

Even intelligent people I know, who have alot of musical knowledge, seem to fall into this trap. They hate on bands like Linkin Park and Slipknot, not because they don't like the music; but because their fans claim them to be metal when they are, in fact, a nu-metal/hard rock band. The same goes for all the pop-punk/pop-rock bands. (E.G. Good Charlotte, Blink 182, Simple Plan, Green Day, etc.) A band should not be liked or disliked based on what fans say, what the band members say outside of their lyrics, the way they dress, act, or talk. It should be based solely on their musical content. As far as I am concerned, the rest doesn't matter. I may not agree with many musicians beliefs; but I'm sure as hell not going to let that stop me from missing out on good music.

All I ask is that people not be so close-minded when it comes to discriminating against genres. All I ask is that you at least give it a chance before writing it off. All I ask is that you just shut the ******** up with your whiny bitching. You don't like something that's fine; but don't insult me because I do. Rap, rock, pop, country, jazz, metal, classical. All have one thing in common. They are all genres of music. So ask me again, what genre do I like? I like music. Period.
