Woah! It's a Journal!
Just...me. Random ramblings, art, etc.
Hypocrisy at it's finest. AKA, why I hate PeTA.
Hypocrisy at it's Finest. AKA: Why I Hate PeTA.

So, we've all heard the bullshit. PeTA is pretty good at media-whoring, I'll give them that. But they also seem pretty good at ignoring the blatant hypocrisies that they practice and continuing brainwashing the masses(for proof, just visit PeTA2.org. It's sad, really.)

Hypocrisy #1

"Boycott KFC because they abuse animals!!!"

Commonly left out fact: It was 2(maybe 3) employees of Pilgrim's Pride(KFC's provider) who were caught abusing chickens. They were fired for their actions. However PeTA still continues on in their campaign against KFC.

So, where is the hypocrisy?

Two PeTA employees, Adria Hinkle and Andrew Cook, were busted red-handed dumping dead cats and dogs into dumpsters behind grocery stores. They were charged with animal cruelty, among other charges. Now, you'd think since PeTA is sooo against any type of animal cruelty they'd fire these employees immediately, right? Wrong. To this day, they are still on the payroll and PeTA paid all of their legal fees. That's right kids...those of you who donate money to PeTA, your donations went towards DEFENDING people charged with animal cruelty.

This leads me to:

Hypocrisy #2

"PeTA Kills Animals"

That's right, PeTA kills a good couple thousand dogs and cats every year. Sure, they play it off as necessary due to overpopulation and it's more suffering for animals to live in shelters. Now, I completely understand that. I DO support kill-shelters because unfortunately overpopulation is a *huge* issue and until people wise up and spay/neuter all of their pets, it will continue to be an issue. But the problem lies in the fact of just how many animals they do "humanely euthanize". In 2005(their 2006 numbers have yet to be released), they euthanized ~90% of the animals they took in. That's right, only 10% of the animals found homes. Am I seriously expected to believe that other local shelters can find homes for 70-80% of the animals they take in, but PeTA can't? Or the ones PeTA takes in are just that unadoptable? Sorry, but I'm not buying it. Especially when in the animal cruelty case, some of the animals that were dumped were puppies and kittens. And as anybody knows, it's just about the easiest thing in the world to find homes willing to take in cute, baby animals. So you tell me, how is euthanizing animals with perfectly good chances at finding homes "humane"?

UPDATE:
Just when you thought it couldn't get worse....PeTA turned in their numbers for 2006. 97% euthanasia rate. Wow. A whopping 3% of animals "rescued" by PeTA actually survived.

Interestingly enough...2007 numbers, still not in. Come on guys! You can make it to 100%, just gotta try harder! rolleyes

Hypocrisy #3

"Animal Testing is Bad!!"

PeTA is constantly making a campaign against animal testing. Both cosmetically and medically. Now, I'll agree with them on the cosmetic issue, it's unnecessary. But that's not what this is about. I'm talking about medical testing here. It is a necessity if we actually want to cure diseases. PeTA even goes so far as to boycott the March of Dimes, because they do support animal testing. Well, it's a little hard not to when the FDA requires all medications to undergo animal testing before it's even allowed to go on to human trials. But apparently they want to ignore that little tidbit. So basically, we are all expected to go without medications due to the fact that they were tested on animals. Well, apparently that only applies to *us* because Mary Beth Sweetland(VP of PeTA) is a diabetic. And, you guessed it, she takes insulin. Which not only was tested on animals, but is an animal byproduct itself. Come on now PeTA, try practicing what you preach if you expect others to do it as well.

Hypocrisy #4

"The NFL Needs To Fire Michael Vick!!"

Now, don't get me wrong...I think dogfighting is completely awful and if he was involved, he needs to be punished to the full extent of the law. But whatever happened to "Innocent Until Proven Guilty"? Last I remember, that was PeTA's favorite comment when referring to their own animal cruelty scandal. That's right...PeTA did not fire employees accused of animal cruelty, but yet they expect another organization. Tsk tsk.

And that's all for now, mostly because I'm tired. But I'll add more as it comes to me.

Damn. I kind of just went to your page because you looked interesting and stumbled upon your blog. VERY interesting. I never was a great supporter of PETA, but I was completely unaware of any of these things. You put the info together quite nicely and convincingly, too. Well done. 3nodding

Wow, you make quite a good argument.

Thank you for educating me -- you've given me a lot to think about.
