So today was Jason's birthday party, and he was hosting it at Chris's house. He had begged me earlier to try and call out, but I told him I really didn't want to, because I had done it recently, and I didn't like having them on my record so much. I was going to make it for about 3 hours though, and I kinda did.
I picked up the 7th Harry Potter book at work, Deathly Hallows, because I had made some cash from the garage sale we had the day previous. I had a blast, and without a doubt, that was the worst rendition of the birthday song I have ever heard anyone receive, so I don't know if he should be honored or not or whatever.
Erin agreed to give Russell and I a ride home, I offered to give her some gas since it would be a venture for her to take him home. I can't remember how the subject was brought up, but someone mentioned the Simpson's movie and I think I brought up how Las Vegas was so lucky, because as a promotion, one of the 7-11's in our town got remodeled to look like a Kwik-E-Mart, the famous convenience store Apu runs on the show. Not one of us had been to it, and because the idea really interested Erin, we stopped by.
It was so cool looking, they had these signs covering over the front of the store to make it look like it had been done, kind of like the plaster some people put on their garage doors to decorate them for Christmas with like Disney Characters or Looney Tunes. They had plastic cut-outs of the characters everywhere, Marge carrying grocery bags, Apu standing near the hot dog case. They even had Jasper inside the freezer with frost on his beard.
I'd heard from Lance at work they sold products and memorabilia reminiscient to the series, and sure enough the Slurpee machine had been transformed into a Squishee machine, complete with a new flavor, "Blue 'Woo-Hoo!' Vanilla". There was Buzz Cola by the case, and the biggest feature, the "Sprinkilicious Donuts", huge donuts covered in pink frosting and sprinkles, like the ones Homer always packs in his face at work. At first I didn't think they had them, but while we were looking around a shipment came in on a truck, and the clerk even boxed them up for me, I bought a 4-pack for around $3.29 or something like that. A small price to pay for a limited time offer.
There were hats and shirts there too emblazoned with characters and logos, but the price wasn't doing it for me, at nearly $12 for a hat. No thanks. So I had my donuts, and I grabbed two of the Buzz Cola cans, a Squishee, and on my way out, a Radioactive Man Issue #1. He's the comic superhero Bart's into, and his sidekick, Fall Out Boy, who Milhouse got to play as once. Hehe, Fall Out Boy.
I was definitely glad we went, I saved a donut for Sonja to have, and when I got home I chugged the Buzz Cola, which tasted just like Coke to me. Oh well, I've got my Squishee cup and I found some awesome photos off of a local's Flickr of the place, I didn't have my camera with me at the time, Jason still had it. gonk
Here's the Flickr if you're interested.
Mmm...memories.
