The Omega Team - Mission One: Nathaniel Perkins ~ PART TWO
Kit wanted to go home and pass out but half way to the door she doubled over from pain. So instead she went to see the good doctor. They had a mission tomorrow so she couldn’t afford this pain. She just needed into go away. And she had to do this mission it was very important to her.
“Hey Kit,” said Doc.
“Hey Doc,” said Kit as she sat down.
“What can I do you for?” He was already changing the dressing on her wound.
“Well -.”
“Damn, Kit.’
“What?”
“You pulled some more of my magical stitches again.”
“Sorry.”
“And just after I ordered you to take it easy.”
“I did take it easy, I only got in one fight today, and only kicked the two of them in the head once, that’s all.”
“We need to go over the meaning of the phrase ‘take it easy’.”
“Huh?”
“Never mind. You’d never come to me for a few pulled stitches.” He pressed his hand to her side to mend her magical stitches.
“Need a refill.” She held out an empty bottle.
“Kit?”
“Do you have anything stronger?”
“WHAT!?”
“I have a mission tomorrow.”
“You’re not ready!”
“You cleared me for duty.”
“But- I won’t.”
“Doc -.”
“No, Kit, I won’t.”
“Just read the file, Doc.” She held out the folder, which he took reluctantly after a while. He read it and dropped it on the floor. He knew what it meant to her.
“Kit -?”
“Just give me the pills, Doc.”
“Fine. These are my strongest. One a day, four tops for the mission. Don’t OD.”
“Okay.” She took the bottle he handed her.
“And Kit-?”
“Yeah?”
“Be safe.”
“You know me, I’m always careful.” She grabbed the folder and left Doc to think about what he had seen in the folder. It was a dangerous mission, worse than anything she’d done before and therefore completely irresistible to Kit. Especially once she learned the objective. No one could stop her none, not even her.

She didn’t go home at night. She cleaned her room in the basement finally getting rid of all of her time travel stuff. She thought that it would’ve been more cathartic but everything that happened just hit her all over again. She should’ve been smarter. It’d been stupid of her. She found one of her spare time travel devices. She couldn’t throw it away. Not yet. She had left early but still she arrived only minutes before Sam and Kyle.
“You like to come early too?” asked Kyle.
“Maybe,” said Kit.
“That’s so cute,” said Sam as he put his hand on her shoulder. She shook him off. He had called her “cute” and touched her.
“Really, it’s just adorable,” said Kyle as he grabbed her ponytail. Not hard, he was just playing with it.
“Fine,” said Kit as she tried to get away. They were strong. He pulled off the rubber band that tied up her hair.
“You have very lovely hair, you know that?” asked Sam and he started chewing her hair. She froze and stared at him.
“Okay,” said Kit carefully.
“What do you put on your on your hair?” asked Kyle as he started smelling her.
“Well I tend to get a lot of demon blood in it, so.” Sam promptly spit out her hair as she burst out laughing when she saw his face.
“Oh my god, you’re messing with us.”
“Am I?” They stared at her.
“I like you.” She smiled.
“I’m glad you approve.” She pulled her hair back up into a ponytail. He was watching her, she knew that. He was waiting for an opening; he wanted to ask her questions. She hated soul seers, especially ones that kept peering into her. She liked her mysteries. She kept them wrapped around her like a shell. She protected herself with her secrets and her mysteries. She didn’t appreciate it when some pocked holes in them and asked questions. And soul seers tended to do exactly that.
“So?” asked Sam.
“Nope.”
“But I -
“I won’t answer questions and being asked them only annoys me.”
“How-?”
“You’re not the only observant one.” They looked into each other’s eyes. He couldn’t penetrate them, not the way he could with others. For the first time in a long time he just saw eyes, just eyes. They were unique eyes in every way; they shouldn’t belong to a twelve-year girl. They were too dark, too full of pain to belong to such a young girl. He felt something in his head. She was a soul seer too; it didn’t show that she knew it. Because she was more than a soul seer. She was an odd girl indeed.
“Fine,” said Sam in defeat.
“I’m not, by the way.”
“A telepath?”
“No and that was your last question.”
“Fine, fine.”
“Everyone else is late.”
“Jimmy’s was late the day he was born and he’s been late ever since. He usually picks up John so he’s usually late because of it. Joe and Jacob are brothers and they basically get into a fight every five minutes. Billy and Fred get distracted so often it’s not even funny. Le’s a mess in the morning,” said Sam, “We should have picked him up.”
“Le? His nickname has a nickname?”
“We’re all very lazy,” said Kyle.
“Yeah,” said Kit sarcastically, “The elite team. Perfect.” Her tone was full of tangible disdain. Clearly she wasn’t impressed with her new team. She yawned half out of boredom and half out of fatigue. She didn’t get a lot of sleep last night. She was too excited and nervous about the mission. Plus the pain wouldn’t go away until she took the pills. She’d spent most of the night cleaning her room.
“Wild night?”
“I cleaned my room.”
“Oh, why?”
“I had nothing else to do, plus it really needed it.”
“Fine.”
“What’d you do last?”
“Kyle made me dinner.”
“Oh?”
“She’s just feigning interest,” thought Sam, “Is she distracted? No, that’s not it. She’s extremely focused, just not on us.” She promptly stood up and walked to the door and looked out. Slowly they followed her. As soon as they looked out, Billy, Fred and Leon walked in. She then walked back to her seat.
“Okay, that’s creepy,” said Kyle.
“What is?” They looked outside, so they didn’t notice her pop a pill in her mouth.
“How’d you know they were going to be there?”
“You didn’t?” He just stared at her. Billy, Fred and Leon walked in.
“Hi, Kit,” said Leon smiling.
“Hi,” said Kit in a completely distracted tone, “Jimmy, John.” A second later they walked in. Everyone stared at her.
“Kit?” asked Leon.
“What?”
“Never mind.”
“The last two, the brothers, they’ve arrived.”
“You’re creeping me out,” said Leon.
“Sorry,” said Kit, as they walked in.
“Hey guys, sorry we’re late,” said Joe, “Jacob was being stupid.”
“I was being stupid, take a-.”
“Shut up,” said Kit, it was almost a song, “Now that the lot of you absurdly idiotic morons have finally managed to haul yourselves back here we might actually get something done.”
“Ouch,” said Sam, “Are you going to give us a mission briefing?” She looked around her and they all suddenly noticed she didn’t have a mission folder.
“Crap, I’ll be right back.” She ran out of the room.
“I don’t think she likes us,” said Joe.
“Really? What would ever give you that idea?” asked Jacob.
“Both of you shut up,” said Sam.
“What do you think of her?” asked Leon.
“I think she’s insane,” said Jimmy.
“Personally I think she’s kind of an airhead,” said Fred.
“I find her fascinating,” said Sam, “She’s the most peculiar person I’ve ever met.”
“Still,” said Joe, “She’s a girl.”
“We can all see that,” said Jacob.
“Be quiet,” ordered Sam.
“But Joe does have a point,” said Billy, “Can we take orders from a little girl?”
“She isn’t little,” said Leon.
“No, in fact I suspect she’s far more powerful than she lets on,” said Sam.
“Okay,” said Kyle, “But do you like her?” They voted: Billy - no; Fred - no; Jimmy - yes, just because she was a girl; Joe - no; Jacob - yes only because Joe said no but really means no; Leon - yes, most definitely yes; Kyle - yes and Sam - yes.
“So we’re split,” said Sam, “That’s unexpected.”
“So what’re we going to do about her?” asked Billy.
“Let’s see how she does on this mission,” said Sam.
“If she finds out that we’re testing her, she’s going to kill us,” said Leon.
“Probably,” said Sam.
“So we want to do this?” asked Kyle and they all nodded. Kit walked in.
“Sorry,” said Kit and they jumped, “Wow, that doesn’t make me paranoid at all.”
“Got the folder?” asked Sam and she held it up.
“Due to the dangerous nature of this mission I get to decide what you get to know,” said Kit, smiling evilly, “Which is nothing.”
“WHAT?” asked the whole team.
“Absolutely nothing,” said Kit, still smiling.
“What?” asked Sam, “You can’t honestly expect us to work like that.”
“You will have to follow my orders to the letter if you hope to live.”
“But-.”
“You,” said Kit pointing to Billy, who froze, “You’re the bomb boy, right?”
“Um, I’m the explosives expert, yes,” said Billy.
“There’s going to be a bomb,” said Kit, “You have one order, DO NOT DROP THE BOMB! I repeat do not drop the bomb. Do you understand?”
“Yes.”
“Okay, suit up, we leave in an hour.” She left, smiling.
“Well, she’s clever, I’ll give her that,” said Sam.
“And she’s cute,” said Leon. They glared at him.
“Not this again.”
