Princess Knight Part 1
Lady Karil swung her sword fiercely, hoping to scare her offender, the red horned dragon. To her dismay, the dragon came closer to her. She smelled gas in the air and knew she was in trouble. The dragon had opened her mouth and proved Karil’s assumption to be right.

The Young knight dove behind a large boulder, which served as a shelter from the burning flames the Dragon had emitted from deep within her throat. She wiped sweat from her brow and stole a glance at the large dragon that towered over her.

“No wonder my kingdom wants you gone,” Karil muttered under her breath.

Karil stood up straight. The dragon’s attention never diverted from the small knight that stood in front of her. The dragon then crouched low and let a loud growl escape her throat. This only made Karil more cautious as she gripped her sword tighter than before.

The princess then heard a small cry in the distance. Whatever the sound was, it alarmed the female dragon she had been trying to slay. The ruby colored body then spread out her wings and flapped vigorously. Flying to where the cry seemed to have come from.

The curious girl then hopped onto her horse and rode away, following the massive creature the best she could.

“I wonder what that cry was. Why did it make the dragon fly away?” Karil asked herself.

The answer to her questions was found as soon as her horse carried her around a mountainous hill where she could see a cave entrance. She saw the dragon she had been previously fighting bowed low to the ground. She could hear low moans that seemed almost sad.

What Karil saw broke her heart into two. The twisted and broken corpse of a baby dragon that looked similar to the larger one lay before the moaning dragon’s feet. She felt a lump in her throat so she swallowed, allowing the tears to freely fall down her red and sweaty cheeks.

Realization dawned on her. This ferocious beast she fought, was a mother, looking out for her baby. If she hadn’t fought the dragon, that baby would have been well protected from whatever might have killed it.

“I’m so sorry. I’m so, so sorry. I didn’t mean to… I honestly didn’t…” Karil choked out over her sobs.

The mother dragon seemed to understand what Karil had said and bowed low. She pointed a claw to the magnificent blade the young knight held and then to her chest, where the heart was supposed to be, as if asking the girl to reunite her with her child.

Karil nodded understandingly. The tears ran down her face and fell to her feet. She picked up her sword and with a battle cry ran and drove the shimmering sword into the dragon’s heart. The scream that was heard when the sword penetrated the belly’s flesh only made Karil cry harder.

“I hope I’ll one day be forgiven for this sin,” Karil whispered to the dragon that lay dead before her.

She knelt on the ground and bowed deeply.

“I am truly sorry.”

...To Be Continued (I might put more of it in this journal. Maybe...)
