That week I spent a lot of time with Mike. Well, some time. We sat at lunch together. I wasn’t planning on that, but he sat next to me. I was just sitting there, eating my tuna sandwich and drinking my lemonade. He was walking into the lunchroom carrying a bright pink purse with black sparkles that wrote across “shine it”. People were laughing a lot when he came in. More then they were even laughing at me! He looked around nervous, probably wondering where to sit.
I turned away from him for a second, to get out my fork for my mac and cheese, but when I looked back, he wasn’t there. Then I felt tapping on my shoulder. I jumped up.
Mike nodded.
“Hello.” He said. “Why did you jump?”
I blushed and put my hand across my mouth. Everyone in the lunchroom was strangely not paying attention. Except for Mikey. He looked mad for some reason, and he was looking strait at me.
I ignored him of course, I was more worried of what I just did, blushed. The type you do when you flirt was the last thing I would do with Mike!
“Sit,” he said calmly, acting like he didn’t know that I blushed at him. “Let’s eat, Kat.”
I sat down. And turned away as I put my head on the table and ate the rest of my lunch that way.
But the strange thing was what happened after school on Friday, the last day of the week.
That day was a really nice day. Mike offered me a ride home, but they day was so nice and just wanted to walk. So he rode home in his car, and I walked. But the whole entire time I felt that feeling someone was watching me. Suddenly, as I passed a big gray house, Mikey jumped in front of me.
“BOO!” He yelled. I screamed and stepped back and covered my face. He started to laugh. I took a big breath and continued to walk. He caught up with me.
“Ha,” he said, “you get scared easily, huh, ape?”
I kept on walking. He noticed I wasn’t responding. He looked away for a second then looked back.
“Gee, end of your second week and you’ve already got a boyfriend.”
I stopped and looked and him angrily.
“Wha- what do you mean?!” I exclaimed.
“I mean Mike, your boyfriend.”
My face got all bold and mean looking.
“He’s not my boyfriend! Are you kidding?”
“Well,” Mikey started looking good of himself, “then if you aren’t dating him, wanna go out on Saturday and get some ice cream?”
I blushed really hard. I stood still for a second, then as fast as I could I ran home.
