The Metal Eagle (A Poem)
The Metal Eagle

The raging air beneath my feet, my heart is in my throat
The cascade of breath that rushes by contains wishes that I’ll float
The flimsy glass that stops my fall is creaking under stress
These leather straps, my paper maps, they got me in this mess

The cackling flames that caress the sides and scorch this safety vest
Why do they increase in size as my situation starts to digress
Where has the blue sky gone, where is the suns harsh glare
Why am I alive as I am sinking through the air

What is that screaming I hear inside this tiny room
Where has my voice fled to as I fall inside my tomb
These questions fly out through the sky as the glass above me breaks
Every bone in my chest sears as my metal eagle shakes
How can I repent, repent for my mistakes…
