Labor Day Weekend
Usually, on Labor Day, I sit home and enjoy the three-day weekend. Not this week. Thanks to Dani (Kyoko Gojo), I was spared another lame weekend of being bored-to-death with reruns of Yu-Gi-Oh and some other Anime knockoffs.

No, this weekend was her sixteenth birthday - Actually, it was on the 30th of August but we celebrated all the way through Labor Day. Anywho, she wanted to visit San Francisco. Ah, what a place. I'd only been there once before to visit Alcatraz Island. This time we were going to explore Pier 39.

I had stayed the night on Friday, the 29th to ensure that everything was set smooth for the next morning. It was that night we found out the Bay Bridge was out for construction purposes. Unfortunately, that was the only way Dani's mom knew how to go! We thought our trip was over before it begun. By the morning, however, we had used MapQuest to figure out the way to the San Mateo bridge instead. Huzzah! The game was afoot.

Once we clambered into a rental car (because Dani's had a bad tire), we were on the road. A good hour passed - between many pit stops for bathroom breaks on Dani's Mom's behalf - before we ran into trouble. Something exploded on the driver's front side. And next I saw flying past my window was the tire. Yup, that's right. The tire blew clean off, leaving nothin' but the tread around the hubcap.

So, we pulled off to the shoulder and waited patiently for the Highway Patrol to zoom by and give us a hand. At least a half an hour went by, and we weren't patient no more. It was hot, over 104 F and the car had to 'rest' so it didn't overheat. Meaning the air conditioning was turned off. I implored Dani to take out her drawing tablet and write a help message. We were stranded without a cellular phone. Our only hope was to ask some passerby on the highway to call 9-1-1.
She drew a help sign, and we stood on the shoulder looking completely imbecilic. Naturally, it was as soon as we got someone to stop and help us, the Highway Patrol made their fashionably late entrance.

After the tow truck put the spare on, we were forced to take a detour to a small town with a Les Schwab tire repair shop. Then we were back on the road.

Once in San Fransisco, we went to Pier 39 for clam chowder in a bread bowl. heart And sock shopping! ...Yes, I went all the way to San Fran for SOCKS. AWESOME SOCKS. And for dinner, we ate at Bubba Gumps. (Note to self: go back when I have the chance. THE FOOD IS KSJKHJFHDing AWESOME.)

Well, we came back that same night, and Dani had three MORE days of celebration. x_x; Party all week, yes?

Anyway, I love San Fran, and I'd like to relive that WHOLE day over again if I could. The best Labor Day Weekend EVER.
