Am I Gay?
Let me come right out and say this right now:
Whether you are straight, gay or bisexual, your sexual orientation DOES NOT make you a bad person. Your sexuality doesn't change you or who you are. It does not need to define your life and what you choose to do in it. It is simply another part of you, like hair color or how tall you are.
That being said, many people still have questions, and are confused about whether they are gay or not. Let's address these questions one by one.
I like looking at/thinking about members of the same sex in a sexual way. Does this make me gay? Not by itself, no. Though gay people fantasize about members of the same sex, not all people who fantasize about the same sex are gay. It's perfectly normal - especially during adolescence - to think about these things.
I have touched/kissed/etc. a member of the same sex - am I gay? Again - not by itself. Many young people experiment with members of the same sex, and it doesn't make them gay.
Can gay people change? Is this just a phase? Sometimes. Keep in mind that almost nobody is 100% straight or 100% gay - most of use have some degree of bisexuality, which allows us to find members of both genders attractive. I had a friend in High School who was sure he was gay for years, and just last year he met someone who changed his mind. They didn't stay together in the end, but now he knows he is bisexual. For some people, they may experiment one way or another for a number of years before "settling" on what they feel comfortable with. Some people don't change, and remain one way or another their whole life. Changing your mind on your sexual orientation is perfectly normal.
So...am I gay? Only you can know that - nobody outside of you can know for sure where your heart lies. It's okay if you don't know yet, and it's okay if you change your mind. You may not know for years! But explore each possibility on your own terms, and be safe about your sexual encounters, and one day you will know.
