Rite of Passage

The battle was fresh and the war cries were still strong. The sound of swords clashing on shields and swords as well as helmets being crushed by battle axes and war hammers. This story takes place in battle. The year is thought to be around 1000 AD, the time of Vikings and of the sword.

Chapter One

Wolf roared a war cry before he charged at the group of warriors. Using his sword and shield in a rhythmic dance, he parried and slashed into the warriors as they tried to block. Inexperience warriors didn’t stand a chance against his fifteen years straight of training. True those with a bit more experience might seem to put up a challenge, but they had only one flaw. They lacked the speed of a 18 year old. “Is there anyone who can live against my sword!” He yelled out the taunt and it was answered. A war cry came from behind him. He turned quickly to see a 6’2 man wielding two battle axes. The man was about 4 inches taller than Wolf but Wolf charged at him giving his own war cry. Wolf knew who this man was and knew that he only had the strength to wield the axes but no skill. “You will die Jarvis!” Wolf yelled again and brought up his shield to block an axe. The force behind it was almost over whelming as his knees almost buckled. Before Jarvis could bring down the other axe, Wolf trusted his sword into his gut. The sword went deep and came out through his spine. Wolf heard the sound of the axes hit the ground and he brought up his shield to aid in the removal of his sword from Jarvis’ gut. He bashed the dead body with the shield and his sword came out easily. Wolf quickly looked around and charged at a group of fighters where his friend was fighting. “Dante, on your left!” Wolf yelled as he brought up his shield to block a hammer. Dante and himself moved back to back, still moving and parried and countered the others attacks like noting till the group were dead. Wolf quickly nodded at Dante and leaped over the 12 fresh corpses. Wolf quickly blocked an attack from the side and he shield bashed the warrior so he fell onto a axe that was stuck pointing up. Wolf Heard a war cry in the distance followed by screams of fellow comrades. He knew who it was and he charged. He needed to get to the warrior know as Lazarus, but got caught off guard as a sword came from no where and cut into his left arm. “Ahh!” He yelled as the sword cut into his flesh. The wound about two inches deep and the warrior stepped out in front of him. A sword was in one hand and a hatchet in the other. Both warriors attacked at the same time. Sword clashed with sword and shield with hatchet. They both fought with perfect rhythm and grace. Wolf changed his rhythm up to try to catch this man off guard. He brought his sword from the parry with the man’s sword to the hatchet and brought up the shield to block the up coming sword blow. The moment the sword hit the shield, Wolf moved forwards, the man stumbled backwards and lost his balance. Wolf took this opportunity to thrust with his sword. He caught the man right between the ribs. The man fell to the ground coughing up blood and wolf with one quick swing cleaved through the man’s neck. After cutting the man’s head off, Wolf barley had enough time to raise his shield to block the incoming long sword. Instead of standing up to continue the fight, Wolf rolled to the right, standing up on recovery and came at the worrier with a shield bash. The worrier simply side stepped and slashed at Wolf’s chest. Wolf easily brought up his sword and parried the blow. Instead of just blocking the sword, Wolf let his blade run down the other, causing the tip of the worriers’ sword just to miss Wolf’s throat. From the blade past the cross guard and the hilt, cutting off the warrior’s wrist. A scream was released than quickly silenced as Wolf’s blade went threw the warriors’ mouth. The moment Wolf turned around war horns trumpeted. “No way.” Wolf said in shock as the order to return back to camp was given. He sighed as he started to make his way to his camp cutting down anyone who wasn’t a comrade. He was the last person to make it back to camp, the second last was Dante
