Wednesday, December 05:
Hey everyone! This time this entry isn't about the ramblings of my often insane or chaotic life. Instead, I'm going to take this wonderfully perfect time to reflect on some musings that I have gathered over the course of a few weeks.
As anyone working in an corporate business should know (or, really, anyone shopping in stores these days) that wafting over the radio is the constant streams of sickeningly spirited holiday and seasonal songs. I, for one, have to deal with it every time I suit up and head to work. At my store, we have a nice "family" safe channel on the store's radios (Warm 98, actually).
I can't tell you how much my sanity has been strained thanks to those melodious nightmares. Tch, can't be that bad, right? I'm becoming the Grinch, correct? Eh, when you work over seven hours in one day and you can count the same song (different singers) within one shift and come up with the grand total of thirteen times hearing it, then you start to realize that the musical apocalypse is upon us.
Here is a list of some general musings I've come up with to keep my insanity level at bay:
1. Yes, as stated before, you can hear one song and hear it over and over, repeated until your brain or ears bleed (which ever comes first) and the only thing different between the versions are the singers.
2. "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree"... Can anyone sing that song correctly with out ending on a screechy note?
3. Most of these songs have too many repeated parts. One song I heard the word "Noel" repeated over and over, as an extended chorus. Problem is, it was 70% of the song (the word "Noel", that is).
4. How come a lot of Christmas songs involve "telling of ghost stories" at one point or another. So, what, Christmas has become the next Halloween? I mean, it's a loving holiday, time to get together with family. Why on earth would you want the fear instilled in you at this time, scaring the kiddies half beyond their wits?
5. Depressing songs. I can't tell you how many songs coming out are actually quite depressing (mother dying, meeting up with an old lover and saying goodbye to him/her forever). Why on earth do you want to think about a mother dying during this season?!
6. Frosty the Snowman. Enough put: this is the most overused song around. I think we all know the story. Oh, wait, there's one disturbing part to this song. I mean, it's a kid song, sure. But at the end he "has to leave". This line comes way after the "before I melt away". The song doesn't specify where the guy goes. Uh, I have an answer, and it hangs high in the sky. Sunblock, anyone?
7. Rudolph the Reindeer. Can't tell you how much I hate this song. I mean, the "other reindeer" make fun of the guy for being what he is, and the second the kid saves the day then they actually notice the poor fellow! If I was Rudolph, I'd basically jet out of there and leave them to stew in their own mess of things. Heck, man, that's just a pride thing though...
8. Mannheim Steamroller. Yeah, they're good. Really good. But, come on, radio people! We don't need to hear them every other third normal song! Warm 98 has a horrible habit of playing them every five minutes. There's only so much you can take of them before it starts to wear thin on your nerves.
9. Any song with Santa Claus mentioned in it. "He sees you when you're sleeping". Ok, any small kid, that would horrify them! The song should rather go like this: "He sees you when you're sleeping. He knows when you're awake. He knows every single thing about you because he spies on you all day long". Kids, he watches you. Every second. When you go to the bathroom, when you eat, when you play your games... Yeah, kids. He knows what you really are. eek
Ta-dah, that's my rambling for the night. Sure, I have a ton more complaints. Well... ok, these aren't really complaints as they are problems pointed out. I bet you there are hundreds of people thinking the same thing.
heart Peace out, ya'll! heart
