wahmbulance [WORK IN PROGRESS] wahmbulance
Ideon shuddered behind the crate. He held his lasgun close and sweat was rolling down his neck. He was a simple guardsmen, and he wasn't cut out for something like this. He had known something had to be on the ship when his squad and the Space marines boarded but he had never imagined anything like this...
The ship was of the imperial navy, "Charbodys" was her name. They had attempted to hail its crew many times with no reply, and the Ultramarines on board gave the order to board. They had already fought pirates and a few orks in the sector, but nothing huge, so they hadn't expected anything big to be on the ship.
The boarding process was routine. So was the sweep of the ship, checking its logs, and everything else. It had all run smoothly...and there wasn't any trace of survivors. As they began spreading out, the silence had begun to wear on their nerves. A few of the men had expressed feelings of being watched, and the space marines held their bolters tight. When Ideon had tried to call his commander over the vox, there was no reply. He then hailed the lieutenant, and there was still silence. Then the space marines saw it.
BOlters were already firing but all Ideon was able to see was a blur moving through the air, impossibly fast and gaining on their position. It was like an enormous ripple of water moving towards them. Then it vanished, and the space marines ordered a defensive line as their chaplain began the litany of hate. The only thing that could be heard was the bellowing of the righteous chaplain, and the heavy breathing of the Guardsmen.
Just when Ideon was begining to hope things had calmed down, the Chaplain's rid cage exploded outawrds in a shower of crimson gore. In that second, Ideon could see for a moment a part of this attacker. Fully six feet long and coated in vital fluids, was an enormous tail like that of a scorpion. Its wicked tip was inches from his own face.
Like slow motion, the marines turned to fire on this thing that had killed the chaplain, but the tail had already removed itself and flung away the blood keeping it visible. Bolters and lasguns alike fired wildly in all directions hoping to kill the thing, and Ideon panicked, quickly jumping behind a nearby crate. It felt like an eternity that he heard shots and screams, and then it slowly died down...to ONLY screams.
When he finally worked up the courage he peeked around the corner with his lasgun, and saw now what kind of creature they were up against.
For something so large, it moved incredibly fast. The only thing keeping it visible was the blood spattered across its body.
