The Story of Link
Has anyone who's played Legend of Zelda noticed that the only time Link is mentioned with a family is in Wind Waker? Well, here is his real story, told from the point of view of me, Farore:

I looked down over Hyrule with pride in my eyes. I had helped create that beautiful place-gave life to it. I turned to Din, who was sitting on her throne playing with her fire. "Isn't it gorgeous?" I asked.
"Absolutely," she replied, spinning the flame in her hands. "Have you ever seen a more perfect ember?"
"Not the fire, Din," I said, exasperated. "This-" I gestured to the world below us. She shrugged and tossed her fire in the air, where it vanished.
"I suppose. But I wanted to leave it the way it was."
"A firey rock of despair?" Nayru asked from where she soaked in her pond. "Din, you know it looks better now."
Din shot her a dirty look and outstretched her hand. Nayru let out a yelp of alarm and I saw that her water was boiling and turning to vapor. "DIN!!!" Nayru cried.
"Please!" I yelled. "Will you two relax? I'm going down." And with that I vanished, and became a part of the trees of Hyrule.
I loved phasing in the trees. To be a part of that life. It was thrilling. But nothing could have been more wonderful then the sound i heard next- the cry of a child, and a very young one. The sound was coming from Castle Town, and I quickly went there.
Inside one of the houses sat a young woman with blonde hair, her face sweaty. In her arms was an infant, one with shocking blue eyes and his mother's hair. But something was wrong. The mother looked stressed and fearful. "Are they coming?" she asked.
"Yes," said the man in the corner, who was obviously the father of the boy. "And in great numbers." The woman let out a moan that sent her son into another round of sobs.
"Hush, child," she soothed, but her voice was not reassuring. The baby seemed to sense this and cried out. The father ran to his wife's side and took the child from her hands.
"We must be quick. It's only a matter of time before-" but he was cut off by the sound of crashing wood as the door was broken down. Standing in the frame was a large man with dark skin and sriking orange hair. His dark eyes were filled with hatred as he scanned the room, his eyes coming to rest on the boy.
"Give me the child," he said, stretching out his hand. His voice chilled my very core, so evil and dark was it. Never! I cried inwardly. I would not allow this baby in the hands of such a man!
"No," the father said, clutching his son to his chest. "You cannot have him."
"Very well," the dark man said. And it was then that he smiled. I will never forget that exspression. Smiles are to be filled with happiness and humor, not the evil that shone in his. Suddenly, two shadow figures appeared and rushed toward the couple and their child. The mother cried out, and I think this is what broke me of my immobility.
Casting out a charm, I brought to life the vines that clung to the outside of the house. The plants dove in the house and intertwined the man. While he was distracted fighting them, I rushed to the mother. "Give me your child," I said. She looked at me in alarm. "Please," I begged. "I am Farore and I promise to protect him, no matter the cost."
Hearing my name-the name of a goddess, she passed me the baby and I took him tightly in my arms. "What shall I name him?" I asked, thinking that he should at least be named by his mother.
"Link," she gasped. "Name him Link." I nodded and turned on the spot, dissapearing, only to hear my plant bindings break and the dying shrieks of a man and a woman as evil magic swallowed them.

I gasped as I reappeared in the nearby forest. The baby was crying again-no. He wasn't "the baby." He was Link. I clutched Link to my chest and looked about. The full moon was shining down on us like a searchlight, and I knew it wasn't safe to stay out. I strode into the deep cover of the trees and found myself in a clearing, looking into a familiar face. "Deku Tree!" I cried in delight.
"My lady, Farore," the Tree said, coming as close to bowing as a tree of his size could. "What do I owe this honor?"
"Please, I need your help," I gasped. "This boy needs protection. Please watch over him like you would a child of your own.
"I would love to, my Lady. However, he has no fairy. Wouldn't he stand out among the Kokiri?"
"Let them beleive what they will, but please keep him. When you can, give him his own fairy to watch over him as well. Make sure he has friends and lives a full life," I said.
"I know just the child who would be a wonderful friend for the lad, a girl named Saria-just born, but I can see the love and kindness in her eyes. I will take him."
"Thank you, Deku Tree," I breathed in relief. And as I turned to walk away I added, "his name is Link."
"My Lady, if I may make a suggestion?" The Tree asked. "Perhaps you could bestow your part of the Triforce to the boy? It would ensure his safety until his destiny is fufilled."
"A marvelous idea!" I exclaimed. I took Link in my arms and placed my hand on his. "I give the Triforce of Courage to you, Link of Hyrule, in the hopes that you will be a vessel of truth and brilliance, and that you will best the darkness that has claimed this world." And the symbol of the Triforce appeared on his hand. I gently kissed his forehead and faded into the darkness, calling out his name, "Link..."
