Lily was sick from school today, and that meant trouble for Artemis. She was such a shy person and that never helped to make friends in High School... Now it was lunch time.
"Who am I gonna sit with at lunch today...i can't sit with Lily's other friends..." thought Artemis out loud.
"Talking to your self loser?" It was Tiffany, and her herd of preps. Not a good sign for poor Artemis.
"Please just leave me alone..." mumbled Artemis
"Awww. Are you begging? Its just too bad I don't care!" then a burst of laughter from the herd.
"Leave her alone, Tiffany" It was Lewis, come to the rescue. The only problem with this is that Lewis was as low on the social latter, if not lower, as Artemis. Little he could say would help, and most of what he said would worsen the problem...
"Come to the rescue I see? Here to safe your beloved Artemis?" more laughter.
"Just leave her alone Tiffany, no one likes a bully."
"But it also seems our fellow classmates don't like nerds more, 'cause I have more friends!" increased giggling. They were making a scene, and over Artemis too.
Please just leave me alone, and go on with your lives. I'm not worth your time... Thought Artemis. she considered just walking away, but she didn't want to heart Lewis' feelings.
"Well I might not have as many friends, but at least I can count on them, I can trust them!" the herd gasped all at the same time, bringing a smirk to Artemis' face Nice she thought. Still wanting to leave.
"Please, just stop, and we can go on with our lives..." Artemis had had enough as she started walking away, but Tiffany wasn't gonna let it go that easy.
"Hey! Where do you think your going dork? We're not done here!"
"But I am..." countered Artemis, marveling at her courage. Lewis took the hint and started walking after Artemis, hoping to get to talk to his mysterious crush.
"Thank you for sticking up for me, Lewis. But next time, please don't..." they had found a empty table and sat down.
"Why? Do you want to be humiliated by those losers?"
"No... I just don't want to make a scene... especially over me..."
"You don't give yourself enough credit! I think your worth it."
No, no, no! this can't be happening... what am i 'saposta say? I don't like this kid like he likes me...but he's nice...kinda? Oh, how I wish Lily was here to help me!
"..." She didn't know what to say...
"OK, whatever. I'll see you around." and just like that he was gone, and she was alone, again...
